  1. One misconception that I’ve seen is about the pro scouts. These guys are scouting minor league players to acquire via trade. They recommend the trade returns. So the people who hate Chris Getz’s trades should be thrilled that these guys are fired.

  6. The suburban White Sox fan wants to drive to the game, not take public transportation IMO. Parking is needed. Even the suburban fans who drive to Bears games can find parking at Soldier right? They ain't taking any train in from suburbia.

  10. The site was talked about back in the 60s, Arthur Allyn along with Mayor Daley wanted the Sox, Blackhawks and Bears to have stadiums on the site. The Bears balked and had been playing at Wrigley for decades and must of thought they would be playing in the Friendly Confines forever. Wrigley was a great place for Bear games as you were right on top of the action, after the Baseball season was over, Papa Bear Halas would squeeze in a pretty large grandstand in right field which increased capacity to over 45,000 depending on how much standing room tickets were sold. The Bears always started the season with 3 weeks on the road as it took time to erect the temporary seats but I loved watching the Bears at the Friendly Confines.

  17. I made to one Cardinal game, their last year in Chicago was 1959 and they played in Soldier Field that year. My cousin and I went to a beautiful Suday afternoon game in October and they lost to Jimmy Brown and the Cleveland Browns like 34-7, pretty typical. I had a golf buddy here in Florida who died a few years ago, he was a few years older but lived near Midway and he and his buddies would go to Sunday Cardinal games at Comiskey, head downtown for something to eat and then head out to Chicago Stadium for Blackhawk games. I did that with buddies maybe twice with Bear and Blackhawk games. One other Cardinal tidbit, their last 2 or 3 years in Chicago they played 2 home games a year at Metropolitan Stadium up in the Twin Cities.

  20. The way most orgs do it the pro guys are assigned 4-5 teams and their responsiblity is the big league team down to the low A team. Some orgs will assign leagues where one guy gets the midwest and southern league and he's reponsible for all the teams in those leagues. Amateur scouts will help with pro coverage during the summer when the pro guys get pulled away to see potential trade targets.

  21. Yup. So if Chris thought these guys were good enough to help him through the offseason and the deadline why in the hell should I have any confidence he's going to hire anyone that's actually...good?

  22. It wasn’t designed to lose 100 games. That is the problem. The one thing you can build in MLB relatively cheaply if you know what you are doing, is a bullpen. No members of Chris Getz inaugural bullpen made it through one season with the team. White Sox pitching has a long ways to go, and it’s going to require some good breaks going the teams way. The hitting is so bad everyone thinks the pitching is fine ignoring the onky staff with a higher ERA is Colorado.

  23. I never said anything about being positive. I don't think anyone has. I'm talking about keeping discussions relevant to the topic and the volume and repetition of the same s%*# we have all heard a million times.

  24. It's funny we were told Getz was hired so we wouldn't have to wait a year, and for most s%*#, we had to wait a year.

  30. They don't need 10-15 games of play to determine if they are giving him $25 million next year. That decision has long since been made. He will be bought out, he will be a free agent. Literally any franchise in baseball would prioritize the kids who will be here next year and sit Yoan.

  33. Those low boxes were bad at Comiskey as the field was pitched, players in the dugout could only see the outfielders from their waist to the head. Wasn’t rectified until 1982.

  37. Walt, that’s the way I felt back in those days but I liked the Bears too, I never liked the Cubs but because we lived up by Loyola as a kid I went Wrigley quite often from 1957 to 1960 but always rooted for the visiting team, It wasn’t until 1960 that I went to Sox game without an adult.

  38. It's cause the stadium is also a punching bag. Jerry just somehow missed the memo on public funding for stadiums no longer being en vogue.

  39. Amazon was going to build at Block 78. The City Council was going to approve the money for the infrastructure and CTA L train. Amazon backed out of the deal. I would think the City Council would approve the money for the infrastructure and CTA L Train if the new stadium is approved.

  41. It would be crazy if…they were all on one team. Imagine how awesome that team would be. It almost certainly wouldn’t break the league record for most losses in a season

  42. It’s been overshadowed by the trade returns and overall suck of the team, but Sheets and Lopez continuing to get at bats down the stretch is one of the larger things that makes me question what the actual f*** Getz is doing.

  43. Ramos is back in Chicago. That is great and all, but it'd be even cooler if he actually got to play over the likes of Nicky Lopez. But another night, another 'ride the bench' for him, in favor of Lopez as the leadoff hitter!
