  1. I'll speed run the discussion 1. He might if we had Jake McCarthy, Joey Bart and Victor Robles for dirt cheap instead of Fletcher, Maldonado/Chuckie, and, I guess Sheets is the odd man out at this point? 2) Yeah well Barfield made the call on McCarthy vs. Fletcher and Robles + Bart were old, busted prospects. Romy is 27-years-old. 3) The Sox should take fliers on guys who have prior success / big time talent, but have failed elsewhere. 4) Like former 6 WAR All-Star shortstop Nicky Lopez? Or Top 40 prospect Vargas? 5) Waste of money when Romy is cheap. Same for Maldonado, Brebbia and Tim Hill. We could have kept Declan Cronin around. 6) Well, Getz is cleaning house of pro scouts who make bad recommendations. 7) Why did he keep them in the first place? Or let Tosar recommend Vargas? 😎 This is where someone else hops in

  2. Chris Getz is the epitome of failing upward. He should have never been put in charge of minor league development, yet here he is the architect of the worst team in the modern era of baseball. In any other org he would be laughed out of baseball to never be heard from again. Yet, his job is completely secure and he will get another crack at record setting futility thanks to arguably the worst owner in sports.

  3. Fletcher and Vargas back-to-back in your lineup. Talk about a dead zone. Hilarious that Romy González, whom Getz DFA’ed, would be our best hitter by far with a .770 OPS. Great transactions by Getz! What a loser of a GM…

  4. Unfortunately, I think at this point, there won't be much of a cost politically to elected officials if they refuse to finance a new Sox stadium and Jerry moves the team to another city. I can't imagine any of our politicians being voted out of office over losing the Sox. Any outcry for losing the Sox will be much, much lower than it was even in 1988.

  5. I am still 100% for the new stadium on the river. I hope when I am dead and gone the Chicago White Sox still exist for future White Sox fans. With this new stadium and new owner, the Sox will be here for a long time.

  7. Barf. I don’t care that they save money on a great, cheap signing. I don’t care that Jerry saves money here.

  8. But that money means nothing to Sox fans or the team actually improving. Fedde’s salary wasn’t bad money, and now the Dodgers are proving that Kopech’s salary isn’t either.

  9. All five levels started a lefty today, and I can't help but wonder when the last time that happened was. Unfortunately, all of them had a rough multirun inning that spoiled their lines. Sinibaldi (14th round) went 3IP, 2 ER, 5H, 2K for Kannapolis. Both runs in his last inning, on back to back RBI doubles. Fellow LHP Frankeli Arias gave a solid 3IP/2R (1ER) out of the pen and got the W in a 7-4 victory. Kanny bats are pretty hot, just in time for the playoffs next week. Antonacci went 2-5 with a 2B, Wolkow was 1-5 with a 2B (and reached 2 additional times on an error and a K), Jeral Perez went 2-3 with a HR and BB, and Arxy also hit a HR. Good to see that injury scare last week hasn't set him back. UDFA Clete Hartzog got his first save. Nice stuff. He's got 10K and an 0.75 WHIP in 8 IP at the level.

  10. I really don't think ERA will hurt his trade value.

  11. Crochet is now at 133 innings, which no one thought he would really reach without struggling/dead arm. The Sox seem determined to get him to 150+ innings, even though his ERA will likely be in the 4’s and they will have hurt his trade value for the offseason. This team could f*** up a wet dream.

  13. I thought about that quote and it made me realize: Paddy had to work under unfair restrictions put in place by JR, Kenny, Hahn and Getz. They should fire Getz and make Paddy the GM so he can do a better job.

  21. I had also read that the Metra tracks that run through that lot would need to be realigned and at a lower grade to make the area accessible from Clark St. in a practical way. And yeah, if somehow the Sox and Related Midwest said they'd 100% privately finance construction of the site as long as the city/state paid for the infrastructure work, then I can see such a deal getting done. It'll run into some serious money, but it's something that could be sold to the politicians. Yes, I get that there's an argument that the infrastructure costs are still not worth it to the taxpayers. I'm just saying that I think such a deal could be done and sold to the public.

  28. I mentioned this earlier. Moncada, if he rehabs, since you didn’t just let him go yet, let him play a bit. DH, 2B. Ramos shouldn’t be sitting. He should be playing 3B . Vargas isn’t a 3B,, Let him DH, LF, and 1B. Gavin Sheets shouldnt be part of the future unless the goal is utter mediocrity, which, considering JRs other franchise, is not out of the question.Sit his ass. Sit Nicky’s ass. Or just tell them to go away.

  29. Amazon was going to build at Block 78. The City Council was going to approve the money for the infrastructure and CTA L train. Amazon backed out of the deal. I would think the City Council would approve the money for the infrastructure and CTA L Train if the new stadium is approved.

  31. It’s been overshadowed by the trade returns and overall suck of the team, but Sheets and Lopez continuing to get at bats down the stretch is one of the larger things that makes me question what the actual f*** Getz is doing.

  33. This thread has become my favorite thread on this site. The season historically sucks...not a lot of hope for the near future...something about the subject of a new park is fun to think about even if it may seem like a pipe-dream! I still miss Comiskey Park...that is that ballpark that visits me in my dreasm occasionally. I have had some great times at the "new" park for sure...but it isn't "romantic" to me. So...I hope we do get a new ballpark somehow...and maybe it is just time to move up the street "a bit". And if they do somehow end up in the "78"...in my view it just seems like it would be a grand slam!

  40. Knights win 5-3. Burke was very good. Gave up a 2R HR but was never in much trouble otherwise: 5IP, 2ER, 5H, 1BB, 9K. 19 (!) whiffs, very effective slider. Colson 2-4 with a HR. He's having a great week, hope he finishes the year strong. Colas 1-4 with a HR. Elko 1-5, Hack and CSN both 2-4. Wilson had another scoreless rehab inning, McGough went 2 IP, 2H, 1ER, 3K, and my guy Adisyn Coffey got save #9.

  41. Almost five percent of a professional season for a billion dollar sports franchise so yeah…I’d say it’s a lot. Do you want the $40 bucket or is just one of the free ones from Home Depot the best? The $40 one has a locking lid so at least you wouldn’t spill any water.

  42. “Replace”? Are you serious? One player was injured and didn’t play for SEVEN CONSECUTIVE GAMES. That isn’t “replace.” It’s filling a void. One would think in a multi-billion dollar professional sports franchise, each one of the 26 available active roster spots is a pretty damn valuable position. I’ve been to Afghanistan multiple times and literally spent years of my life there so you trying to bring that into an argument about the worst baseball team in history….go f*** yourself.

  44. I was watching some commentary on Dabo Swinney and how coaches like that that build a program and let it slip away (I think the demise of clemson is a little overrated, personally, but obviously the decline has been real). They talked about how those coaches hang on too long to what they think college football should be rather than adjusting to what it is. It is very on the nose to Reinsdorf. For 30 some years, since 94 I'd say, he's run the team based on how he thinks baseball should be run. And, miraculously, in 2005 it worked where spreading money around on veterans was better than signing a giambi. But it has continued to crumble as 2nd contract vets have been the worst value there is. Yet he still thinks that is better than paying amateurs, because I'm sure Joe Borchard or something. You could hear it in his voice with Getz. Oh he'll be hard on the guys to actually do the fundamentals, unlike those other teams just looking at spreadsheets. Yet those teams are so much more fundamentally sound than ours. They don't understand modern baseball at all, or how to run a team. He just knows he doesn't like it and wants to believe he knows a better way. Maybe this year, being such an embarrassment, could shake him out of it. But I doubt it. It sure has shaken me though, jesus christ this is embarrassing.

  47. Well, clearly he doesn’t have a higher floor as a starter because they all stuck in rotations, and he didn’t. As far as pure ceiling, he’s probably somewhere in the middle. Schultz, Smith, Taylor, and Iriarte all have way higher ceilings than him. Batista, Carela, Eder, Bush, and McDougal probably have similar ceilings. I think at this point, you have your view and I have mine. Either way, I hope he has a long career in the majors.

  48. I just did a deep dive on Sox pitching and there just aren't a lot of starting jobs available. Next year, I see the Sox rotation as (Crochet traded) 1. Martin 2. Thorpe 3. Cannon 4. Nastrini 5 ????/Flexen That would make Charlotte 1. Burke 2. Bush 3. Eder 4. Adams 5. Iriarte. Birmingham is 1. Schultz (with no innings limit) 2. Smith 3. Carela 4. Schweitzer 5. ???/Riley Gowens. W-S is really crowded with 1. Grant Taylor 2. Aldrin Batista 3. Seth Keener 4. Lucas Gordon 5. Tanner McDougal 6. Shane Murphy 7. Tommy Vail. Who do you bump to give Pallette a starting spot? I could see Gowens, but Pallette did not get it done in A+, hard to bump him to AA as a starter. Plus, Gowens is an older guy who has had a great year. I guess someone like Bush or Burke could win a job in spring training, opening up a AAA slot for Schultz, but I doubt they want to up his innings and move him to the AAA bandbox simultaneously. I suppose you could bump 3 of Gordon, McDougal, Murphy, and Vail to the bullpen. Both Murphy and Vail have been swingmen in the past. I think to find innings to make Pallette a starter again, they'd have to do another trade like Mena for Fletcher, only this time they should get someone who may have a prayer of hitting in the majors.
