Why in gods name would you trade for a guy who is needing fixing for an organization that hasnt fixed a hitter in over a decade?6 points
-
Lol we all understand that the problem is JR. Majority, in fact, does. That doesn’t automatically absolve anyone who works for him. Other GMs have done more with less.5 points

I don’t understand this. Didn’t the Sox basically sign Pham to flip at the deadline? Now not paying him the last 2 months is great business? Wouldn’t they have been better off saving even more money and not signing him at all? I just read an article about the Dodgers stealing Kopech. The price was small, Vargas, and a couple of guys who may never get to AAA. And the Cardinals got Fedde for next year. And the Sox sent cash. Getz got pantsed. The organization didn’t improve…. Personally, I think JR is starting to remember the profits the team was making when they weren’t trying to win, and it appeals to him. It’s disgusting what this team has become. A national joke, a laughingstock. Ken Rosenthal called them a sad sack franchise. Where’s any fucking pride?5 points

This is insanity. It’s a 2 billion dollar franchise. $15m is nothing, they gave away three MLB players for a guy that is below replacement level in nearly every metric while charging fans $50 for parking, not paying rent on a state facility, and attempting to threaten taxpayers with re-location if politicians don’t give them a billion dollars for a new stadium.5 points

Dash lost 7-4. Smith had a quick 13 pitch 2K first, but got tagged for 2 ER on 26 pitches in the second. Not the best BABIP luck. His final line ends up 2IP, 2ER, 3H, 1BB, 2K. Schultz also had a random snakebitten 2nd inning where he gave up 3R on 3 consecutive XBH. His final line was 3.2IP, 3R(1ER), 4H, 1BB, 5K. I thought they might have pulled him after the first out in the 4th at 63 pitches but he went one more batter to finish at 67. He gets a ND thanks to the bats and pen picking him up as the Barons win 6-4. DJ Gladney 2-4, Veras 1-5 with a 2B, and Camiletti 1-2 with 3 BB. Rikuu Nishida does not care about your EV metrics or prospect projections, and went 2-4 with a BB, SB and 2 runs scored. He played LF today. He has a hit in every AA game so far, and is 9-21 with 2 BB and 3 SB in total. He has yet to strikeout and is casually slap hitting his way to an OPS over .900. Gonzo went 1-3 with a big go ahead 3R homer that ended up the deciding swing. Pallette turned in another 2IP scoreless and got a W for his efforts. Still a 0 ERA at the level. Eric Adler gets save #7 after coming in to put out a bases loaded fire in the 8th and following up with a 3U/3D 9th.4 points

Well, Kopech did have 5.1 scoreless innings before he left the Sox so he’s been good for about 21.2 innings straight. India is mediocre and is a free agent in two seasons so he wouldn’t make much sense for the Sox to acquire, but neither did Vargas who is terrible. And the “LOL Sox” narrative is a thing. They have the worst owner and GM in baseball, which is why they are going to set the record for futility. Amazing that anyone would even try to defend the Sox or that almost everything involved with the team isn’t an epic failure. Do people not understand the record they are about to set? Fletcher, Vargas, etc., etc. It’s one big gigantic embarrassing mess.3 points

The trade was going to look lopsided no matter what we traded. Kopech sucked and we needed to move on. Everyone knew he would pitch better somewhere else.3 points
-
Cali, how do you know that no experienced GM would work for Jerry? From all accounts, no one else besides Getz was considered. And yes, Jerry sucks, but Getz showing that he is truly atrocious at player scouting is really killing this rebuild.3 points

The team is also worse because you suggested trading for Dominic Fletcher instead of Jake McCarthy. Shut the hell up, Josh.2 points

I really hope JF turns it around and has a nice career, he's a good kid and we shouldn't have hard feelings towards him.2 points

I just don’t see Schumaker coming here. He will have options, it’s far too early for him to commit career suicide.2 points

Nightengale has been long rumored to be a mouthpiece for Kenny and Jerry, so it is a surprise he now seems to be taking more shots at the Sox recently. Regardless, what did he say that wasn’t true? You must really like Vargas.2 points

Kopech had a near perfect July and another year of control. There was no objective urgency to move him. it’s like Getz is getting advice from the people he’s trading with. Ridiculously naïve.2 points

Are Fletcher and Amaya the real deal? Is Fletcher the next grinder to play 10 seasons in the bigs? Nice dive. Nice hit. Sox quest to bag 40 wins seems possible maybe.2 points

We'll see. They were very happy with Lance Lynn until he gave up four home runs in a row in the playoffs. I am confident that Kopech has that type of performance in him when the Dodgers really need to rely on him. Well, maybe not four home runs in a row, but certainly a 4-run 9th.2 points

Bears had no business winning that game. The Titans outplayed them for 2.5 quarters. But Levis’s brain farts and the Bears defense changed the game.2 points

Oh I agree that a move to another city is highly unlikely. I won't say the chances are zero, but they're pretty low. Just look at hard it's been for the A's (in a much worse stadium situation) to move to Vegas. I'm just saying that even if such a move became plausible, I don't think many elected officials would feel pressure to cave in to the Sox to avoid being punished by voters for "losing the Sox". In fact, I think they'd get more voter support for telling Jerry Reinsdorf to go stuff it. Fewer people would care about losing the Sox than did in 1988. And more Sox fans than ever are fed up with Jerry crying poor all the time on his way to becoming a billionaire. That saddens me in a way as a Sox fan because apathy for this team has reached a new low (or is it "high" grammatically?), but at the same time I'd be satisfied with lawmakers saying "No way" to more JR bailouts. And I'm in support of a new South Loop ballpark - if Sox ownership PAYS FOR IT.2 points

Yeah maybe don’t let a guy you’re about to fire be a main voice in why you want to trade for a player2 points

Could a better GM than Getz gotten back better prospects/players than what Getz did in his deals (Bummer trade, Fletcher, Vargas, etc.)? Yes, end of story. Cali is sweeping a broad brush over everything, while there are still ways the team could have been improved. None of those trades involved a lot of money in which JR was a bottleneck. These bad trades were all on Getz’s poor assessment of players.2 points

Neither do I . But Jerry does and that's what any GM he hires is working with. You're all hoping for miracles to happen .Some GM to come in and make great moves in a system designed for on field failure but long term profitability. It's kind of amazing that the majority here cannot see the point of my posts. You're all fans of the wrong team like I am . The best you can hope for is JR dies soon and frankly it's not something I personally like rooting for. It'll happen eventually . If people want to think there's some miracle GM out there that can change JRs mind or make more impactful trades and get the Sox back to .500 in 4 years instead of 5 ,great, more power to your hopes and dreams of a couple of years of competitiveness. Maybe by then the Sox get sold to an owner who cares about winning .2 points

It’s just yet another BS post to try to claim that no other GM than Getz could have done any better, and that Getz did exactly what JR wanted — dumped salary. It’s fake news. A real GM could have gotten back value for a 4 WAR starting pitcher on a cheap contract as well as a relief pitcher thrown in. Getz got back yet another pile of crap, just like the Bummer trade.2 points

They cannot move the team. It’s not even a remotely credible threat and all the politicians are smart enough to know it.2 points

Let me get this straight. The White Sox have two straight 100-loss seasons for the first time in franchise history. And the second one will probably be the worst in major league history. Yet after running his franchise into the ground, Jerry Reinsdorf is supposed to get a publicly funded stadium. Feeling a little entitled?2 points

Knights lost 8-4 despite outhitting Norfolk 13-8. 4 errors and 2-10 with RISP didn't help. Bush got tagged for 4 runs (3 earned) in the first. His velo seemed down a tick and he didn't return for the 2nd. They did come back to tie in the 3rd, so he gets a ND. On offense, Elko went 1-4, Perez went 3-4 with a 2B, and Montgomery stayed hot with a 3-4 day. 6 game hit streak for Colson. Josimar Cousin was nasty today, 5K in 2 scoreless innings.2 points

Dear Chris Getz, Just resign, you schmuck. Yours sincerely, Soxtalk ** **does not include those who understand it's just your 1st season...keep up the good work.2 points
-
Exactly. That has nothing to do with the payroll. That’s just your GM being an idiot. Why would you trust the recommendation of an assistant hitting coach to acquire Vargas when you fire that same coach a week later? Did Getz not have any clue he was going to fire Tosar a week after the trade deadline?1 point

Me too, I think they gave up on him way too soon yet we give guys like Sosa forever to figure it out and they never do.1 point

Far from sacking Chris Getz, if he had any self respect he would resign. He has helped assemble what will be the worst squad in MLB history, virtually none of his trades or aquisitions seem to have worked out, and all this from a team that was not deliberately tanking apparently. It is not as if the current squad is bad with the prospect of a brighter future in the minors. At best the Sox can hope for a return to.500 ball by 2027. There is no prospect of Getz building a playoff capable squad in that time (even with the expanded WC) let alone one that could actually win a post season series.1 point

They love playing short. A starting pitcher that you won’t let go 4+ innings when the season has been over for 3 months is completely silly.1 point

What a dumb thing pitching Crochet 2 innings. Just shut him down already. He's not even doing well in this reduced capacity.1 point

Fletcher and Vargas back-to-back in your lineup. Talk about a dead zone. Hilarious that Romy González, whom Getz DFA’ed, would be our best hitter by far with a .770 OPS. Great transactions by Getz! What a loser of a GM…1 point

Chris Getz is the epitome of failing upward. He should have never been put in charge of minor league development, yet here he is the architect of the worst team in the modern era of baseball. In any other org he would be laughed out of baseball to never be heard from again. Yet, his job is completely secure and he will get another crack at record setting futility thanks to arguably the worst owner in sports.1 point
