  1. I'm looking forward to the offseason where we start trying to bully the state of Illinois out of a billion dollars again with more threats to move.

  2. I'm looking forward to the new stadium. Hopefully it will be designed right this time and become "The New Baseball Palace of the World"

  3. Even after the trades this continues to be an absurd construction. The payroll commitments for 25 are now a shade over $35 million. This franchise is sitting at around a $55 million payroll with Robert and Benny on the books, and dumping dead weight like Nicky and Vaughn. Even including them we are talking like $65 million. If they don't want him, cut him like any real MLB franchise would. They can easily set $25 million on fire just like they did last year and save Jerry plenty of his kids future inheritance, cutting payroll to under $100 million like a 3rd world MLB franchise.

  4. Didn't Crochet literally say he didn't want to do this without a contract extension?

  5. I'm looking forward to new ownership. That's the only possible way a new stadium MAY, repeat may, be built.

  6. Wait until next year when they are historically awful AND no one knows where to watch them.

  7. You seem surprised. I haven't watched this little baseball since the years post strike in the mid 90s.

  9. Honest question, you think Jerry knows what YouTube TV is? The OTA programming is cool but, let’s be honest it isn’t exactly a revolutionary idea. I bet, if they end up on a streaming service, it’s likely Fubo since they carry almost everything. I think it’s more likely that they try a stand-alone subscription based streaming service but I honestly have zero idea how MLB, NBA, and NHL broadcast rules affect that. Mildly concerning that they are two weeks away from the network launch and haven’t announced any streaming partners.

  10. The Cubs fanbase was built by Harry Caray and their 1984 season on a Superstation. Before that, both teams drew about the same.

  11. And that’s where a savvy team like the Dodgers could have managed his workload in August/September so that he’d be fresh for the postseason. Easily could have put him on the IL for several weeks of the regular season to rest him up for the postseason and still ended up with the same number of innings pitched in 2024 as he will end up with the Sox.

  17. I mean, you wrote these guys off months ago. Holliday and Mayo are younger but there’s no denying they’ve been overmatched at the mlb level thus far. Not exactly what a team with World Series aspirations right now wants to see. In fact, their window might already be closed and they don’t know it yet because that starting rotation looks like an absolute dumpster fire next season if they can’t count on Grayson to be healthy. I don’t know where they’re going to get the pitching without spending serious money because they have no arms in the minors and they’ve already expended many of their bullets on the excess prospect position player front.

  18. He's also ranked #54 in framing. Now part of that is probably the umps not giving Sox pitchers the benefit of the doubt, because the team is so bad. But Sox pitchers consistently get pinched. And .562 OPS is just not something a great arm and release can overcome. I realize he's nowhere close to the biggest problem, but so far, he's no solution either.

  19. If used properly, Crochet could still be a highly effective opener in the playoffs or a nasty two inning lefty reliever ala Andrew Miller years ago. I don’t agree with the idea that he wouldn’t have helped a playoff team next month.

  21. His performance is 100% health related. He cannot stay on the field. Someone will take a flyer on him for $7M next year.

  22. I just mean in general. ‘This player is bound to produce better results in your quality organization, as his performance here was effected by our toxic environment and general incompetence”

  23. He wasn't pressured on all but 1 dropback. That's 38 total pressures on 39 pass attempts. There can be multiple pressures on a single play. That's bad to begin with, but it's not like he was pressured on every single play. It was something like 23 out of 39. Which is still objectively awful, but nowhere near as disastrous as 38 of 39 pass attempts. But like I said yesterday, the TTT metrics are saying he's getting rid of the ball quickly and that's what I saw last night. He's not trying to hit the home run ball on every play. He's playing within structure. It's just that the offensive line absolutely blows and he can't hit the deep shots when they're there. All the criticisms of Caleb's game coming out of college have not really come to fruition at the pro level. It's actually a lot of his strengths in college that haven't translated so far.

  24. Moncada is not being traded. He has a $5 million buyout or a $25 million option for 2025. He's getting the $5 million to go away. He will be a free agent in like 6 weeks.

  25. The numbers would say whatever he was doing, the White Sox apparently were doing it just as well or better until 1984 when Wrigley Field became a tourist destination.

  26. This is my question as well. OTA is great and all, but I would happily pay for a stand alone app w/o a cable subscription, even with as terrible as the Sox are.

  27. I just don't like the fact that in key 3rd down's we see Homer and Everett (his former players) on the field a ton. Herbert and Swift are much better players as is Kmet. Don't get cute - get your best players out there and scheme them appropriately. With that in mind - these were 2 good defensive fronts the Bears faced the past 2 weeks, so hopefully those challenges early test them, but don't break them, and Caleb, Waldron, the oline and the whole rest of the offensive unit cause use those challenges early to grow and develop into a better team. It is clear to me that the probability of Bears sending Caleb to a completely new system are real...which just kills me cause its what the Bears do. But I'm going to for now - hope that they can right the ship and 3 weeks from now we are having a very different conversation as we are seeing the arrow continue to trend positively.

  29. If there is to be a rebuild it needs to start with the fan base. The only cure for that is JR and TLR are no longer involved. You might see people attend a 100 loss season with those conditions. Then again maybe not. So far the framework spells cancer. They need to find another stooge like Grifol whose only skill was ass kissing. I really can't think any serious manager would bother with this. No upside unless it's a chance for a stepping stone to another organization.

  30. So is Korey Lee. Good gracious, he's been terrible with the bat. Sox should have league-average pitching next season. But they have nothing on offense. Of course the offense is why they are record-setting bad this season. 6-6 avoids the record. Take 4/6 from the Angels (they are bad and the Sox should be trying harder than them) and 1 each from the Padres and Tigers, and on to next season.

  33. I'm kinda scared to hear that. A too "noisy" hand load can hurt you and cause timing issues and it can make sense to quiet it down, especially when you are wild like Gary sheffield but vargas already has a pretty small and quiet hand load. I'm working with some hitters and I don't love the slight hand lift he does and would prefer the load to be more "connected" to the shoulders (more in line with the natural coiling of the hips and trunk) but it still isn't a very noisy load and with the sox "expertise" in player development I fear they will deaden his hands completely and kill the bit of power he has making him a total slap guy like the sox did with so many hitters

  34. Nothing on offense works cause we can't run or pass block. It doesn't help that Caleb can't throw the ball down field. His accuracy on these floating deep balls is so disappointing.

  37. Crochet wouldn’t be contributing to a team’s post season this year so there is that as well.
    1 point
  38. I don’t think we know that as a fact. There were teams still interested in Crochet after that news came out. And it’s not like Getz is going to let us know what the offers were. And who cares what Getz thinks is a good offer or not? He acquired bums like Fletcher and Vargas. His assessment on what is a good return in a trade means nothing.

  42. A logical person in charge would do one of two things. One, start making significant investments to show the baseball world he is serious about making changes. Two, sell the team to someone who is willing to spend upfront to build a winning and profitable franchise. We don't have a logical person in charge. He is in some kind of dream world.

  44. While I agree that hiring a vet manager from outside the org with any modicum of success would be ideal (I was a strong advocate for Girardi over Ventura) the problem is much deeper and starts with JR and Getz.
