  1. Given our history with this ownership, presumably this is an effort to find and fire the leakers rather than to improve the identified issues.

  2. But part of the problem is that most of the players are at best AAAA level because the club is being run like a AAA club, the plane business is just one example of this. Players talk to other players, do you really think any big name free agents would want to join the current Mickey Mouse organisation even if they were prepared to pay them what other clubs do.

  3. Sox fans are out there. If the team was competitive, it would likely be close in attendance to the Cubs. While the Sox park is a decent and underrated venue (I refuse to call it guaranteed rate field, it's such a stupid name and logo and is just another idiotic business move by JR), it doesn't have the charm, history, or neighborhood that Wrigley does. So when the Cubs aren't doing well, fans have the ballpark and that also pulls in tourists as well. Attendance for Sox games is completely tied to how competitive the team is. It ain't better at the ballpark if the product on the field is ass. Fans will stay home and find something else to do with their summer. If the Sox are good, vying for the playoffs, there isn't another place on earth where you can feel the energy quite like you can on the Southside. And it's such a damn shame that has been stripped from us because of incompetence by the people who try to run the organization.

  4. JR doesn't give a crap what you or any of us fans think. And we will see a repeat of this year next year because they have already told us they won't be active in FA and they are looking to cut payroll. The Athletic article made it clear that JR is stuck in the past, thinks he knows more than everyone else and is determined to do things his way. Bringing in another GM won't change a damn thing when there are still issues at the root of the organization. They don't spend money where it needs to be spent in order to have a successful organization and that won't change until there is new Ownership.

  6. In his defense literally nothing has changed since Pedro was fired. It's almost like he wasn't the problem

  7. Exactly. Sox fans have always supported the team when it's worth supporting.

  9. We've been over this a million times. Even taking one third of the Chicago metro area as the Sox base leaves a bigger empty market place than pretty much anywhere else in the US without a team, especially if expansion of two teams is inevitable.

  11. It is worth noting there are PLENTY of just recently fired people besides Hahn and Haber who could be sources for this article. Probably plenty wondering how if a dude who completely failed as his previous job was getting a promotion, why were they getting fired.

  12. The State/City is not going to pay for The 78 stadium besides roads, sewers, infrastructure. jerry can find a billionaire to partner up with if he wants it that bad. The Sox are not moving out of Chicago, isn't happening. With a new owner the Sox can thrive in Chicago. The over the air tv package is actually brilliant, it will expose the Sox/Bulls/Hawks to 650, 000 potential viewers that don't have sports packages on their tv's.

  14. Ozzie is a selfish, braggadocious man who learned he can earn back the love of Sox fans by eviscerating this team, as long as he ignores the elephant in the room that keeps signing his checks.

  15. Any time someone talks about Ozzie keeping it real because he's ragging on Moncada or some other player: He simps for Jerry's money and is nothing more than a mouth piece and it's best to remember that.

  16. Barons cruise to a Game 2 win, 12-5. Solid 5IP/2ER start from Schweitzer. 2 IP Schoenle, and 1IP for Freeman, both hitless. Luna gave up a 3R shot in garbage time. Gonzo 2-5 with a HR and SB in his return. Not sure if the back is still nagging him, but he looked fine at the plate and in the field. Nishida 2-5 with a BB and RBI. I love him. The IF also connected on a nice DP early to get out of a jam: Tatum went 3-5 with 2 RBI, and 3 SB. Matt Hogan went 2-3 with 2 RBI, a BB, and an SB filling in for DJ Gladney who left after a HBP. Veras was 1-3 with a SB before his exit. His replacement Goosenberg nailed a 3 RBI triple to help put the game away: Game 3 to decide it tomorrow. Riley Gowens gets the ball. 14H, 10BB, 6SB as a team, but there will be extra pressure on the bats tomorrow with no Gladney/Veras.

  17. Gonzo missed the last week of the regular season and it was unclear if he'd be active for the playoffs. After a PH appearance in game 1, he gets his first start post-injury to try to help his team in the playoffs. This go ahead HR certainly helps:

  18. I don't think it'll happen, either. It's not because of territorial rights. Chicago just isn't a 2-team city. That we have 2 teams is a relic from a bygone era. The only 2-franchise cities/metro areas now are NY and LA. I don't think the Sox will move, but if they do then people need to stop deluding themselves into thinking MLB will rush to bring a 2nd team back to Chicago. They won't - they want to expand MLB into other markets, not have another team go up against the Cubs at a 40-year old generic ballpark. If some fans don't care about the Sox leaving Chicago, fine - just don't pretend that another team will be waiting in the wings. Also, if the argument is that MLB will want "American League" representation in Chicago, again that's sorely outdated. Every team plays every other team each year now. The meaning of AL and NL has been completely watered down. MLB will be more likely to engage in radical realignment (which would obliterate the AL and NL for all intents and purposes) than move heaven and earth to bring a 2nd team back to Chicago.

  20. He's a slap hitter. His load in his lower body is non existent for a pro and his levers aren't long enough to make up any power. A total scouting whiff and one that you didn't need to be much of a scout to see as many of us here said at the time.

  22. Ohtani put up more WAR in one game, than the entire White Sox offense has in the entire regular season (0.7 vs -6.0)

  23. I have complete faith in the Sox draft and destruction process. It is amazing how many consensus first round hitter picks this franchise has buried. Literally haven't had one over perform since Tim Anderson.

  25. Ah. I still have 2030. This team isn't smart enough to admit to mistakes in real time.

  26. I am positive MLB would be smart enough to preserve both the territorial rights, plus the name and history of the White Sox, like the NFL did with Cleveland.

  28. JR wanted no part of signing Ohtani. So, Dodger fans get to watch the guy smash records, and we get to see the wrong record set. JR refuses to see that he is not doing anything to hold the line on salaries. No, he doesn't want to win that badly.

  29. Yes, it’s the last weekend in January. It will be the beginning of the year long celebrating 2005. It is being billed as reimagined, so you can forget asking any difficult questions.

  30. I used to think that would happen, I don't believe that anymore, the Cubs would scream about territorial rights.

  34. The Athletic article pretty much points out that the Sox can't fix Vargas cause the Sox don't know how to fix it. The Dodgers probably gave Vargas a ton of information on how to approach pitchers, where they'll attack him, etc. The Sox probably just tell him to be patient and good luck.

  37. THEN F***ING RESIGN IN 2014. OR 2019. OR 2021. LITERALLY EVERYONE ON EARTH WOULD HAVE UNDERSTOOD WHY HE RESIGNED IF HE HAD DONE SO IN DECEMBER OF 2020, AND HE'D PROBABLY HAVE ANOTHER GM JOB RIGHT NOW. INSTEAD HE'S A LAUGHINGSTOCK WHO WILL NEVER WORK AS A GM AGAIN.

  38. And if he didn't like things, he could have left. He waited around to take a promotion when he was a huge star candidate around baseball. He turned down interviews with St Louis and The Mets IIRC at that point in time. He also could have quit at any time after and looked elsewhere. This isn't a Scientologist 1 billion year contract we are talking about here.
