It doesn't matter who they replace him with. He posted a 98 wRC+ as a first baseman and was a negative WAR player. He's bad at baseball and is an easy non-tender at that cost.6 points

None of this makes any sense. He's just not worth the arb cost. He's a bad baseball player. I'll be pretty disappointed if they tender him at that price. It should be an easy decision.4 points

I’m just as sick of Vaughn as the rest of y’all but, considering the context, I don’t see the harm in giving him one more chance to realize his potential. It’s going to be yet another season of seeing what you have in guys, so they certainly have the time. He isnt blocking anyone that’s more important to the future. The $6M price tag doesn’t matter since they will not be spending/reallocating that money in a meaningful way anyway.4 points

He's another example of a guy that was rushed to the majors plus being forced to play out of position. It's no wonder his stats are what they are. He would have spent a couple years getting ready in a quality organization.3 points

If they're really going to bring in quality hitting instruction, actually give these guys an offseason plan, and make sure they stick to it, then I'm fine keeping Vaughn for one more year. He was a consensus top 5 draft pick that year I believe, so it's worth giving him a real shot with proper help after they epically bungled his growth plan. If they're not going to do these things, and just count on him fixing himself, they might as well let him go. Also if they determine he's just ruined or a bust, then they might as well let him go. Either way, what a disappointment he's been and I don't particularly care if he stays.3 points

This is gross and it makes me lose even more faith in the decision makers. Also, he's not worth whatever the under is either. $5 million is too much because he stinks. Would you pay Lenyn Sosa that much? I bet he'd produce similarly playing 1B with the same number of plate appearances. Yeah I'm pretty confident that it won't be Atlanta. They want position players. Why would he flippable? He sucks and nobody wants him.3 points

This just doesn’t bother me anymore. I kind of expect it with most guys who had at least some upside.3 points

There is something special about his appearing in Forbes. One of the go to business journals ripping Reinsdorf as a businessman is pretty ideal, that type of disrespect just has to sting.3 points

He’s nothing to get excited about and I dislike the arb estimate. I’d try to settle around $5M, and if he doesn’t like it non tender. They don’t have any better options though and signing someone comparable from the FA market will likely cost more.2 points

As I said yesterday there were 36 people who played significant amount of 1B this year and got 400 PAs. The White Sox were represented at #31 and #35 in that list. Seeing as Sheets was actually tied with Ty France at -0.9 fWAR , who actually split time with two different teams which means his failure wasn't concentrated in one team, unlike Sheets and Vaughn.2 points
-
I’d rather bring in some AAAA bats who never got a real shot in the majors than give another +600 plate appearances to Vaughn. There is zero reason to believe at this point that he will ever figure things out.2 points
-
Move on from both Sheets and Vaughn. Neither guy has any profile better than 2 WAR even with better hitting. I'd rather put Colas at 1st next year then see either guy on the roster.2 points

He literally looks like a toddler swinging at the tee. What the actual H?2 points
-
The thing is, I trust that he’ll do well in a different organization, so we’ll look like fools if we let him go. He’ll still continue to struggle if he stays, so we’ll look like fools if we keep him. Lesson being: the Sox will look like fools regardless of the decision they make, because we don’t know how to develop players.2 points

Leave it to the White Sox to value "work ethic" over actual performance. We spent an entire winter bringing in all of these work ethic cases via free agency and trade, and it got us the worst season in MLB history. What would we learn from that lesson? Let's do it again! Imagine how many losses we could have had without Andrew Vaughns leadership.2 points

Gone are the days of #35, #14, and #79. We sure were spoiled at the first base position for decades2 points

Honestly? Who cares. The Sox were literally last in 1B WAR this year and lost 121 games. I am not worried about marginal gains or losses. If it were up to me, I would stick Vargas there and let him get familiar with his new home, because it sure as hell shouldn't be 3B. This could also be on those positions where you find some unwanted $2-3m bat-ish first player and let him fill a position for a year like they did with DeJong at SS. You have nothing ready to go there anyway unless you surrender on Vargas, which Getz won't have enough sense to do.2 points
-
It makes sense in that the new Sox regime seems to have no problem spending way too much money on proven god awful players. If you like Vaughn so much, let him walk, and pay him like half of that in free agency, like a normal franchise.2 points

No one cares about the face of a 100+ loss team. Did anyone care about it this year? No. So no one will care about it when they lose 100+ games next season.2 points

Vaughn and Lopez should be the easiest non-tender decisions imaginable, but Getz will no doubt find a way to f*** this up.2 points

Has anyone made a better move getting the hell away from Jerry than Benetti that has paid off so soon?2 points

I can understand why a White Sox fan would be of the opinion that they do not intend to go to and will barely watch the team going forward. But a fan who has "signed up" to be an " admin" on the Pale Hose Talk website, would sound odd to say they intend to "barely watch the team" next year. I would think that a person that intends to rarely spend time time watching the team should really quit their admin role. Maybe I am missing something. ?2 points

At the moment, the White Sox are the only team in the AL Central that has a TV deal for the 2025 season. Broadcaster Diamond says it will no longer carry 11 MLB teams in surprise move1 point

It makes sense to me, doesn't mean its the right move. They aren't going to be signing anyone of significance in free agency, and they have no one beating down the door at first base. So what if you pay Vaughn $6 million next season, maybe he becomes flippable at the deadline.1 point

Sad thing is it was a joke in my mind at first, but the Braves make a ton of sense. Too bad we didn’t get Schwellenbach last year. Love watching him pitch.1 point

No one is sayng he hasn't been a massive disapointment but a player is more than his war or xrc. They like his work ethic and leadership and after what they have gone thru the last few years and where they currently are as an organization that's more important to them than a couple wins. If he has another disappointing season they can move on from him after the '25 season. btw-I'll take the under on that arb number.1 point

It's been this way since WBEZ/Chicago Public Media bought them. I have no idea why people keep perpetuating this.1 point

Nicky Lopez at just over $5 million. Talk about burning money. Vaughn and Sheets for a combined $9 million? You could sign a random vet 1B that would be better. They should just let them go and play anyone else at 1B. The rest of the salaries are reasonable, but I probably wouldn’t waste a million on Justin Anderson. He’s disposable.1 point

You let Vaughn and Nicky walk and replace them with telephone poles.1 point

I would think Vaughn and Lopez are gone cause of $$. Lopez is no good and Vaughn seems to be mediocre prospect at best. Jerry can save 11 million between the two to give mediocre relief pitcher candidates.1 point

It’s Detroit. They asked what’s 2+2 for 162 games. Hopefully they can crown a winner next year.1 point

Dylan Cease, ReyLo, Aaron Bummer. I’d even argue Tatis getting out was a major win. There’s quite a few former Sox in the postseason this year. Weird.1 point
