  1. A better question is why would you want to? #traumabonding

  2. I can’t believe Caulfield isn’t giving this a try. 63 names in one post is right up his alley.

  3. Counterpoint, I can figure out bunny ears AND they fucking suck. I haven’t missed them in the 20 years since I last used them. I pay for cable and it isn’t too much for me to ask a channel carrying 3 pro teams in the 3rd largest market to come to a deal for availability on most platforms

  4. Just the very act of going to an antenna feels symbolically like going backwards in time in the race with technology...rather than something truly visionary. Like pirate or ham radio.

  5. This is true but there are still some screw-ups. They are broadcasting in H.264 video encoding rather than the standard MPEG-2 format. Many slightly older TV’s don’t support this codec so people can basically get the sound from the CHSN OTA channels with no display. Pretty stupid decision. It’s probably OTA mostly because the Sox, Bulls, and Hawks all suck and the majority of cable provider don’t care to pick them up.

  6. I only remembered Gus Varland because the other day I was like "I remember Ryan Bukvich of all people, but I will not remember Gus Varland in a few years."

  8. To be fair their starting QB was out with injury, illness or something. I conveniently left that out, lol. Carmel looked like they had good pieces, it was one of those games that just went Rice's way despite a few crucial ref calls that went against BR.

  9. I assume this is just for general tomfoolery. How about the Sox getting rid of like every single international scout?

  11. The concept on paper of CHSN being on free tv is a good idea. The problem is it’s not practical. Most people have either XFinity or YTTV. That’s how they watch TV. In order to watch the White Sox, they will need to switch inputs on their TV, and locate the channel via OTA. While it doesn’t seem like a lot of effort (and it isn’t) it’s not how people are conditioned to watch TV. And given the state of all three teams on CHSN, fans shouldn’t have to take additional steps to watch their favorite teams, they should make it as easy as possible. At this point in time, most people have to buy an additional piece of equipment to tune in, and that doesn’t pass the smell test in 2024

  13. So we have a former CSN employee and a current Sox employee posting apparently. This will go well.

  14. I find all this negativity, profanity, and complaining posted here to be very strange (. I believe the opposite: launching CHSN Chicago Sports Network is fantastic news! This is a wonderful business decision. For the first time since the 1980 season (on Channel 44 WSNS) nearly all White Sox games will be televised on free over-the-air TV. That's 44 years since that happened. During all of those years, Sox fans had to pay $ to watch most games excluding the 60 or so games each year that continued to air on OTA TV stations. But even that ended after the 2019 season when WGN-TV was sold to a new owner (Nexstar), and the Sox have been a cable only team ever since. I was referring to the poster above me that mentioned an outdoor antenna. And if you look at the link he posted, there's a whole bunch of suburbs where indoor reception will be "hard". It's like people don't remember how much rabbit ears fucking sucked. It's a downgrade in every aspect. Quite the opposite actually. If you look on the map, there will be a whole bunch of suburbs where reception is "Easy Indoor": https://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?map=Y&appid=25076ff36dad76a5016dbc38667e53ad&site=1 And no, rabbit ears do not "fucking suck". TV stations are much easier to receive using an indoor antenna providing an excellent signal since the 2009 conversion to digital broadcasting. The days of analog TV grainy / fuzzy reception are long gone. Plus, UHF stations come in stronger now compared to VHF, when the opposite occurred during analog TV broadcasting. "jumping through additional hoops"? LOL! You actually think plugging in an antenna to the back of a TV is a difficult process? A 10 year old can figure that out. Having to pay $200 per month ($2,400 per year) for cable/satellite TV is what I call asking customers to jump through hoops. By the way, down the road there WILL be platforms to stream telecasts if that suits your fancy. This is a White Sox forum, and they next season starts over 5 months from now so there will be plenty of time to get that done. Here is what CHSN has to say: https://chsn.com/info/ "HOW TO WATCH CHSN plans to be available everywhere that fans want to watch. Information on additional cable and streaming options will be released soon. Check back often! For digital antenna (OTA) support, call (877) 828-8198. PREMIUM TV SERVICES CHSN will be available across satellite, cable, and premium streaming platforms. We are working aggressively to secure deals with all platforms and will provide updates as they are available. Check back often for the latest list of distribution partners." "Spending a ton of money on an OTA DVR"? LOL! Here's one I found on Amazon that costs $100, which isn't a ton of money. That's nothing but you support the $2,400 per year cost of cable/satellite TV instead of an antenna. https://www.amazon.com/Tablo-4th-Gen-2-Tuner-Subscriptions/dp/B0CBVT6SLL/ By the way, most viewers in the Chicago area will not need to put a "fucking antenna on a roof". An indoor antenna placed next to a window should work for most viewers unless the viewer is located in far out regions of the Chicago metro. No, this isn't a "fucking joke" and CHSN is not "going to fail". Actually, Comacst/Xfinity will have PLENTY of motivation to carry CHSN. Comcast/Xfinity stands to loose probably half it's customer base if CHSN is not carried. However I suspect the price Comcast pays to CHSN will drop down compared to the fee NBCSN charged because CHSN is available for free OTA and no longer a pay-TV exclusive. The only good thing is…that the OTA signal doesn’t even reach South Elgin so Grandma might not realize her paneling is gone yet. Who cares what the set looks like? Is the set really that important? LOL Here was the first program that aired. Looks fine to me: According to the coverage map, Elgin is well within reach of the signal area and so are areas west of Elgin which is even farther away.

  15. They could try the "spend money" thing. Getz continues to prove he can be easily duped in trades and get more Vargas caliber players. Trade is a bad word for Sox fans unless you like a decade or two of bad baseball.

  19. I have talked to multiple people from places like Elgin, Aurora, and Joliet that cannot get the OTA signal. Maybe some of its user error or the codec mentioned above because of their TVs but that’s like the whole point. You know what channel they have zero issue finding on Comcast and Fubo? Marquee. We’ll see what happens with the bankruptcy but an awful lot of people in Central Illinois have zero shot of getting the OTA signal but you know what they do get…the Cardinals and Blues on Bally Sports Midwest. Anyone that thinks that this launch has been anything short of a complete disaster simply isn’t an intelligent human being.

  20. An OTA option is a great idea if you are trying to make your product more accessible. Emphasis on option. OTA as virtually the only way to access your channel's content in the year of 2024? Yikes. It is a colossal fuckup.

  21. Resorting to name calling over this is embarassing. I get the signal perfectly in both the city and south burbs, since you asked. The complaints will always be louder. This isn't a disaster to anyone but you, apparently. You don't even care about the signal though. You've made it clear you want the ability to pay for it. I'm sure you'll get your chance, but for now R-E-L-A-X

  22. It’s not “bitching to b****.” OTA was applauded because it is a great SECONDARY method of distribution for those that don’t have cable or streaming services. It was assumed that the channel would be available at least on Comcast and a service like Fubo. To date, that is not the case because Jerry is trying to save a few dollars. It’s a dumpster fire and anyone trying to rationalize the launch as acceptable thus far is an enabler that is part of the problem. The completely clown shoes sets, production, and on air talent makes the entire project that much more laughable.

  25. Ofc when the White Sox were actually right on a player...like Wheeler...couldn't seal the deal. And Machado still on a HoF track but that extra year JR couldn't stomach. Obviously the right decision by Zack's wife to go with the Phillies' juggernaut.

  26. This is awesome. I can now watch "baseball" with my three year old daughter easily. (Everything is baseball to her and she wants to watch it all the time) Having every major streaming service didn't get us Sox games before. Now it does and it's free. Sure the team might suck, but she enjoys it and that's all that matters.

  30. BR is likely undefeated right now without the two big injuries to their OL — their two starting guards. Two big boys they are missing which is killing their run game. Their backup OL kids are much smaller than their starters and can’t push the opposing D lines at all.

  31. It’s really not that bad. Benintendi has negative value due to his contract and performance and Robert has sucked for an entire season and is getting expensive. Crochet is the guy with the real value and do you trust that clown shoes Getz will actually choose the right prospect return? With Holliday, it’s very likely he is going to pan out. I couldn’t say the same for any potential Getz prospect return. Baltimore probably turns the deal down anyways due to it being too much money for them to take on.

  32. It's just people bitching to b****. The best part of CHSN is that it's free OTA. Theres not much else to add to that though. Go look at the original announcement or general Chicago discussion and see the positivity that generated. Not much else to discuss though beyond that which is why you now only get discourse about people being too lazy to change their inputs or something. Free OTA should have happened a long time ago and hopefully starts a trend for others.

  33. Neither will they. The Sox got great attention for being inept.

  34. Depends if you believe in fWAR for pitchers...Crochet wins that in a runaway, and Eflin is at an unaffordable $18 million for essentially a 2/3 starter most seasons.

  35. Any team that gets Crochet will be lucky to have him. He's the type of player the Sox should try to extend. He's taken his career into his own hands and always looking for ways to be better. He realizes you never should stop looking for ways to improve. When others were saying he should be shut down because his 2nd half stared off poorly he was quietly working on a sinker. He wants to be more efficient, throw less pitches, go deeper into games, give up less HRs, get a DP when it's needed. He also loves the plan he and Getz and Bannister devised so much that he didn't want to alter it in any way. Getz might have been perturbed when Crochet said he wanted a contract extention to pitch in the off season but it actually was a testament to how much he liked how well his season had gone to that point .There was no way in hell he wanted to jeopardize his career for one post season. As soon as 2025 he likely gets a chance to pitch in the post season as a better version of himself than he was in 2024 and be well on his way to a 9 figure contract. One more year of proving he can stay healthy and pitch a complete season and he can get it. He could get it before then but he better make sure he gets some opt outs.

  39. And the Blue Jays, for example. Others will now argue the Orioles have nothing to show for all their lean years as well. But, as any White Sox fan knows, constant retooling has meant what type of playoff record from 1990-2012? If the Royals didn’t bottom out, no Witt Jr. and no playoffs. Runs like the Tigers or Mets this year happen once a generation for fans of most teams. MLB has now gone decades without a repeat champion. Compare that to the Chiefs or Patriots. You can make the playoffs every year with superstar QBs but it doesn’t work that way for baseball teams normally. Just look at the Angels with Trout and Ohtani.

  41. When he was drafted, I was as big of Andrew Vaughn fan as there was. Everything I saw, everything I read , was so positive. This was a guy who made pitchers throw strikes. I was so excited. But he still misses pitches by 2 feet. His numbers are basically the same every year. If they keep him one more year, just in case, I'll get it, but it's probably time to move on.

  43. How low do you think JR actually wants that payroll ? I don't know what it's looking like now with 10D and Robert without Moncada and Eloy but combined Beni and Junior make around $32M . You non tender Vaughn ,Sheets and Lopez, there's around $12M gone Soroka's a FA that's another $3M gone.Clevinger and Flexen are UFA. Everyone else isn't making squat . They have to field a team.If they trade Robert and nontender those I mentioned were looking at like $40M plus anyone they decide to sign for more than $1M. While I wouldn't be shocked to see them ruin a Crochet trade by trying to include Beni, I'm thinking it's right up there with Sox fan paranoia about trading for Salvador Perez last off season. Nothing to worry about until it actually happens. I also wouldn't be shocked to see Crochet pitch again for the Sox. It depends on what the trade offers look like for him. We'll see how some of these playoff teams feel about getting beat and making some serious offers .

  45. “I’ve gone to most of the tailgates this season, the big ones put together by the fans,” Schriffen said. “The last one of the season, I was out there and it was an awesome turnout. We are talking hundreds of people and a fan came up to me and said, ‘Early on, I may not have been your biggest fan, and actually one of your biggest critics. But you’ve really come around, and I’ve come around on you just because the way you stuck it out.’ 😂😂. I’m sure this fan very much exists

  46. Smart guy to get off social media. First of all you can't tell if what's on there is true or fake news or a doctored photo or video. It's only going to get worse with AI. Nobody should use social media. It frankly is disgusting. Sox can do better than Schiff but whatever. A 40 win team doesn't deserve a great announcer.
