Trading Mena wasn't even the problem with the trade. It was targeting Fletcher, and then refusing to play him for most of the season to see if he could play through whatever his problem was.3 points

In the meantime, AJ Hinch and the Tigers are into the playoffs, and we got stuck with TLR instead which was the beginning of our decline. JR dictating JLR hire instead of AJ Hinch was a major blunder IMO.2 points

Offer Crochet for Holliday and see if the Orioles bite. Just make sure to keep young Jackson away from the Cuban music scene. It wasn’t long COVID. Those music video vixens sapped all of Moncada’s power.2 points

I think it’s likely that he’s not worth what he was a year ago at this time, that’s totally normal for prospects right when they come up. If he was still the number 1 prospect in baseball and he had performed well this year, the Orioles would laugh at the idea of moving him for a pitcher with only two years of control. They might actually consider it, if they think for example that developing him into an all star could be a 3 year process as their window may not be that long. And maybe if Robert was viewed by them as having some value, which is questionable at this point, maybe you could come up with a hypothetical package. But Robert for Holliday is silly season talk after the last year. We should understand baseball better than this.2 points

I think people are assuming some of Holliday's star has worn off due to his shift to 2B and his poor performance in the majors this year. I think that could be true if this was Dombrowski, but I highly, HIGHLY doubt the Orioles are going to trade him, unless they're completely out on him. I don't think they trade anyone but marginal prospects for 1 year or "B" level players.2 points

After this debacle, O's might finally be willing to trade for Crochet. It's nice to keep your best prospects, but missing your window of opportunity could get a GM fired.1 point

Just saw on baseball-reference. Died a few weeks ago. Little guy. Listed at 5’7”, but was shorter. Famously on cover of SI. Rest in Peace1 point

Rodon ridiculously bad this time through the order. Yankees playing like chumps at home, KC leads 3-1. Yankees need another bat named Rizzo and he ain't available.1 point

I don’t want to watch Getz and his scouting wizardry acquire a handful of Samuel Zavala’s. I’ll take the highly touted guy over lesser prospects/players that Getz would no doubt choose.1 point

If this was already posted I apologize, Chuck will be doing the CHSN White Sox pre and post. No word on Ozzie yet. Chuck's X , sorry can't get link as White Sox pregame and postgame host! The podcast is coming over, too. Looking forward to what’s next and serving Chicago sports fans: the best on the planet.1 point

That would be impressive with as little money as they spent there. I still would like to know if the spending practice were Paddy not being able to recruit, or Jerry not letting him recruit 12/13/14 year olds, but hey, everything is fine in Baghdad.1 point

Holliday would be the Sox best player since Frank Thomas.1 point

He played as a 20 year old. Colson Montgomery is almost 2 years older than him.1 point

He's 20 and has 208 ML PA's. He's absolutely still a prospect. He's also a SS on the White Sox. Before this year, Crochet had 70IP over 4 seasons and the idea that you could get any value for him was laughable. He's lightning in a bottle. I'd prefer they sign him, but if the O's willing to trade Holliday for him, it's a no brainer.1 point

Christian Mena continues to be the most over hyped prospect without ever actually producing on the field. Don’t get me wrong, I get that Fletcher has little, if any, value…but robbery implies that you gave something up of value. We’ll see if Mena ever adds value to a major league roster1 point

Miguel Vargas missed putting up a .900 MiLB OPS for four straight years by 14 points in one season. (.906/.915/.885/1.005)1 point

Holliday has one thing going for him - his dad was a good hitter for a long time. Not that it guarantees anything, it's more that his dad knows what it takes to succeed as a big league hitter, and he's probably more likely to listen to his dad. Even if Sox coaching inevitably fails him, he has options. In other words, he might be more immune than most to the typical shitty coaching the Sox seem to provide hitters.1 point

One of many times that Bill Veeck put promotional value ahead of baseball sense. He brought Chappas up to the majors at 20-years-old directly from single A, had Harry Caray measure him on TV, and made him pose for publicity photos stuffed inside a trunk. Great stunt; got him on the cover of Sports Illustrated. But you wonder if he would have had a better career if he went through a normal development process: https://vault.si.com/vault/1979/03/19/its-not-only-a-game-of-inches-whether-rookie-shortstop-harry-chappas-is-or-isnt-the-smallest-big-leaguer-is-of-little-concern-the-really-big-question-is-can-he-help-chicago-pull-up-its-sox-and-win1 point

Yep. While the Sale return was larger (Kopech, along with the other two lesser prospects), Sale was better than Crochet and had an additional year of control. Also, teams aren’t giving up their top prospects like they did in the years of the Sale and Quintana trades. I’d trade Crochet for Holliday in a second, and wouldn’t think twice about it. However, I doubt the Orioles would agree to the deal.1 point
-
You would have to be batshit crazy not to do Holliday for Crochet straight up, and I think Crochet is underrated. 9 players in all of baseball had an OPS above .900 this year. This isn't 2000. Holliday would instantly our best prospect since Frank.1 point

lol, you’re so dramatic. Cristian Mena isn’t even a T10 prospect in a below average Dbacks system and he ended the season injured.1 point

Holliday is probably a better prospect than Robert ever was.1 point

March 19, 1979 - Sox shortstop prospect Harry Chappas appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated with the caption, “The Littlest Rookie. Shortstop Harry Chappas.” Chappas was all of five feet, three inches tall. His career was as brief as his height. In three years, he appeared in 72 games with 184 at bats, one home run, two stolen bases and 15 walks. Part of the reason for his struggles, from those who knew him, was because of his reluctance to take advice from coaches and teammates. His only career home run came off the Brewers Bill Travers.1 point

How many teams in baseball can even afford to pick up the remaining financial risk on the Robert deal? He's just about the equivalent of Alex Rios when KW claimed him right now. Maybe another 1/2 year of struggles away...if that.1 point

Same. Also that play that ended in an interception against the Texans (I think). Everything before that throw was mind-blowing1 point

Just reply and be honest. Sorry, not interested this season. Last couple years have been miserable and I wish to spend my money elsewhere right now1 point

He’s overrated because unless he carries a .928 OPS into mlb no second basemen should be the #1 overall prospect in mlb. I don’t care what position he played in high school or minor leagues, he doesn’t have the arm strength to play SS. His arm is barely good enough to play 2b in mlb. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/jackson-holliday-702616?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb1 point

Boston isn’t rebuilding to turn around and empty out their farm system…especially when in 2024 you just made a lot of progress. Crochet should be the type of pitcher you do that for when you are just a player or two away from a great team. Wong Raffaela Duran Devers Casas and then you add Anthony and Mayer.1 point

The name calling on this continues to be embarassing. Calling people unintelligent when you cannot figure out how to use an antenna, which literally requires a paperclip, is wild. You will have your opportunity to pay for the free channel soon enough though.1 point

Resorting to name calling over this is embarassing. I get the signal perfectly in both the city and south burbs, since you asked. The complaints will always be louder. This isn't a disaster to anyone but you, apparently. You don't even care about the signal though. You've made it clear you want the ability to pay for it. I'm sure you'll get your chance, but for now R-E-L-A-X1 point
