Just keep saying no to public funding, and they could build a little at a time to try to impress. Say no enough, they finish it off.3 points

Why are we talking about Mike Clevinger in a Robert trade thread? At the very least, shouldn’t this be in the “Fire Chris Getz” thread?2 points

I'm not writing off Vargas but he does have to make some serious changes to his swing/approach. The PULL THE BALL IN THE AIR swing/approach simply doesn't work. His hands are too close to his body and he has a steep entry w/an extreme uphill path. There's just no room for error with that stupid swing/approach. I hope they go back to basics with him because he does have bat speed and suddenness to go along with a great eye. I'd move his hands away from his body, shorten and flatten his swing and concentrate on barreling the baseball and hitting line drives. If he does that he has a chance to be a good hitter but if he continues with the PULL THE BALL IN THE AIR thing he's done.2 points

It was mainly bad because he gave up a cheap 5+ WAR starter with another cheap year of control and got back a player that the prospect shine had already worn off of. Why Getz didn’t go the all prospect route for the main return piece (e.g., Luke Keaschall), especially with the state of this team, I will never know.2 points

No joke, the Sox should connect with the TribCo because that is essentially how they sold the Cubs to minimize taxes.2 points

I can understand they were stuck with him last year but bringing him back is where the issues lies and shows Getz isn't very good at his job.2 points

Speaking of the good ol days, you put me in the camp of agreeing with Balta. That should pretty much tell you that you are out in left field on this one. For some reason you have decided to be the old man lecturing everyone how things should be, and how they used to be. We get it you are different. That quit being interesting like 10 lectures ago. We are going to be beneath you over here. If you feel the need to lecture, let the feeling pass.2 points

Nah. He’ll receive his fair share of criticism, as he should, but he played a big part in getting them to the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Padres offense got shutout in a bullpen game. If they lose tomorrow, it’ll be a group effort collapse.2 points

Vargas’ fast swing rate is 8.3% vs. a league average of 22.5%. That is not good bat speed.1 point

Without knowledge of what was in those files, yes that’s entirely possible. Many domestic abuse victims try to live normal lives as much as they can, especially if a kid was involved and all the money comes from the abuser. Clevinger getting 15 of his friends to testify that he’s a great guy is probably easy when he has an $8 million salary. The abusers best friend or other knowledgeable person coming forward to talk to investigators and subjecting themselves personally to harassment from people like Getz and his big fans is a much bigger ask, and commonly these cases don’t move forwards because additional people don’t want harassment themselves. We even saw how Oscar Colas started following and liking every photo on the victims instagram page in early 2023, so yes that’s entirely possible.1 point

As much as you seem to want that to be the case, that’s not “all that they’ll remember.” I mean, you can look at the post game thread on their subreddit now to see what they’re saying. Spoiler: It’s not what you’re hoping for.1 point

Thats not what you claimed though. You claimed that there was “no evidence” and “MLb has found no evidence.” Prove it. Show me where they said there is no evidnece. Please prove to me he didn’t, show me the report saying he didn’t. You are claiming you are certain of innocence. This is far beyond “not suspended.” I believe this is bullshit and you are lying. Most domestic violence cases are hard to prove because they’re he said she said cases, but you are telling me there is affirmative proof it did not happen and she lied. Give it to us, or you’re lying.1 point

Please kindly share for me The MLB report that said "There is no evidence to back any accusations" as you have made a very specific defense claim here.1 point
-
Dude, seriously, cut the BS. You also don't know that "by all evidence, he didn't do what he was accused of". By all the evidence, MLB decided they didn't want to pursue further discipline. Clevinger could still be an incredibly selfish and shitty human being, and still not clear the bar for banishment.1 point
-
I agree with most of what you say about the White Sox, but Clevinger is truly a selfish POS. He doesn't deserve "due process". He's not in the criminal justice system. He's had the privilege of playing MLB baseball. He has put his teammates health and well being in danger, at the very minimum. He's also been accused of abusive behavior towards his children and their mothers. And MLB's investigation wasn't conducted to find out if he was "guilty" of what his baby mamas were accusing him of. It was conducted to see if they should suspend him for conduct.1 point
-
By all evidence? Here’s the bruises. They were published after MLB failed to do a prompt investigation. Is this who you want the White Sox to be? This is your stuff? LOOK AT IT. Every other team knew to stay away from him. There were other police reports we learned about this year that were public as well.1 point

I'm not trying to change any minds. I'm just existing with you as a Sox fan with a different take, and stating my opinions. Yeah, I think it sucks that this site has become a refuge for a guy that openly rooted for Cleveland in 2005, and I wish it was still as funny and light hearted as it was in the past, but I still find it a valuable place for Sox fans. I don't dislike any of you. I just present a different, optimistic viewpoint of the team. Like I said, we disagree about just about everything, but I'd still let you buy me a beer.1 point

But seriously, at this point all we have is hope, so I'm gonna go ahead and pull for Getz and Thorpe and Montgomery and Albertus and Bonemer and Taylor, and me Taylor etc. It seems like a better path than circle jerking around shitting on kids just because they play for the Chicago White Sox. Being incessantly pessimistic isn't cool or edgy. This isn't Reddit and we aren't 17.1 point

The Flying Serpent played his part tonight. On one hand, let's fucking go Mets. On the other hand, the series is just a reminder of regrets: Manaea and Quintana could have been added for dirt cheap the past few years. They had Iglesias and traded him for Avi Garcia. Schwarber was right there for the taking and then, obviously, Harper. It feels like the Sox were connected to — or fans/this board beat the drum for — all of those guys.1 point

And if they really did expect to be this bad, everyone did what was expected of them, so why are they getting fired?1 point
-
Getz was hired because he already knew the organization and JR didn't want to waste a year, yet, it took him almost all year to fire a lot of these guys who we already knew sucked at their jobs. Which again tells me that in no way, shape, or form did they expect to be a 110 loss team. Everyone got fired because you simply cannot keep your job when you are the worst team in this sports history. Look anywhere in sports, 99.9% of the time a new GM comes in it gets gutted and replaced with their guys top to bottom with the occasional guys who stay on. The White Sox promote a guy who was already here and should know damn well who shouldn't have a job and heads don't start rolling until the massive black eye of the worst season in sports history starts swelling. You think all these people get fired if the team goes 75-87? Yeah right.1 point

I keep seeing you say different variations of this, like you feel like you are better than this site because you refuse to call a bad player a bad player. Very strange1 point

They didn't bring in any "type of player." They signed a bunch of has been's that had a reputation for being decent clubhouse guys. "Their type of players" LMFAO1 point
-
We all knew it was a complete teardown. What results? We're historically bad and he fired the majority of the organization. Did you expect immediate results? Did you actually think we'd be improved? We actively traded everyone with value and signed a bunch of has been's and never were's hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. I would agree that Getz was a bad hire, but using his first year, in which he's fired just about everybody, doesnt really prove anything. Of course we sucked, we were supposed to suck.1 point

It's going to annoy me to no end that the main twitter account went with @CHSN__ as it's handle when @CHSN is available. Edit: Lol, it has to be two underscores because otherwise it goes to some kid's profile who hasn't posted since 2016. That's next level.1 point

This is just incredibly sad. The whole structure of major sports and how much deference individual owners get to torch an entire market like this is so silly to me. This is bad for major league baseball, but every owner will just avert their eyes and is cheerily happy that they can still ruthlessly leverage a communities passion for a team for their benefit. Great job mlb, once again showing contempt for the dwindling population that still supports you.1 point
