Fegan also reported that Schumaker is still in the mix, the Sox have told some candidates that they aren't finalists and that they'd like to make a hire by end of October and prior to GM meetings. I believe that these are the people we know of so far. Skip Schumaker (Former Marlins Manager) Grady Sizemore (Internal) George Lombard (Tigers Bench Coach) AJ Ellis (Special assistant in San Diego) Clayton McCullough (Dodgers 1B Coach) Phil Nevin (Former Angels Manager) Daniel Descalso (Cardinals Bench Coach) Will Venable (Rangers Bench Coach) Am I missing anyone?4 points

I mean yeah, it's a thought, but Rodon never wanted an extension here as a Boras guy. He wanted to hit free agency and strike it rich, which is exactly what he did. Unless we were willing to out bid the market, he wasn't going to extend here any longer than he had to. He was never going to be "easily retained". He was always going to the highest bidder which was never going to be the Sox, and honestly when a guy has that injury history, I can't blame them for that one.3 points

And if you put together a rebuild, you don't presumably put a washed up manager 10 years out of the game to go behind it, but here we are.3 points

I’m not counting on it, but man I would love if an app came out.3 points

Yes. At this rate, the Dodgers will win the WS thanks in large part to Getz trades.3 points

Bought an antenna and canceled hulu. Saving $100/mth and getting the three teams I watch for free. Do they need to get a comcast deal? Yeah. Should they worry about other streaming? No. They should go direct to consumer with streaming, which is what I've been saying about baseball for a couple years. With streaming why force your way through a middle man?3 points

Big day for Montgomery. He's looking good and the back doesn't seem to be bothering him. It's a Festivus miracle!2 points

Tray, stop being a dumbass. This is far beyond your little one man war against a new stadium. There is no need for anyone to go to that length to lie to you on the internet2 points

I'm not going to pretend I know much about a lot of these guys, but for the love of god don't let it be Nevin.2 points

The theme of 2024 was pretty clearly if Chris Getz got a choice between Player A and Player B, which ever player he chose was awful, and the player he let walk away was a serviceable player in another organization2 points

Dude, I know how to get an antenna but I do not believe I should have to. I pay my sports tier, I have been paying this man my money for years. I’m not out of line to say that this channel bullshit is just that, bullshit. They have literally blacked out three major sports, two of them starting their seasons right now. You can be accepting of that, I choose not to be. I’m not even sure why you are arguing with me over it. you got it! You got a reason to use your antenna now. I’m happy for you I truly am2 points

Also, good moment to point out that one of Getz's first moves was DFA'ing Honeywell, who turned in a good year for the Dodgers (though he way overperformed his advanced metrics) and is pitching in the postseason for them.2 points

Look, I pay already for my plan. Everything was paid for, Jerry decided to jump to his own station. Said it would be set up, we would get our own dedicated station, then didn’t come to an agreement with the local carriers. I’m not buying an antenna. I’m just not. Not interested in putting up something that this channel can wipe out immediately by reducing the coverage area(which definitely happens). I’m glad you are happy with an antenna. There are plenty of people who are not, and don’t want to go buy one. There are bulls Blackhawks and Sox fans outside the antenna range. This is how you lose fans. but I’m happy you spent your hundred on an antenna2 points

Which tells me that I shouldn't take ANYTHING they say seriously, including doing this rebuild fully and correctly, because their recent history tells me they will 100% lie to the general public to sell a few more ticket, and they will absolutely cut corners, incest hire, and not do everything they need to do to win in 2025 and beyond as long as Jerry and his hand picked stooge are running the show.2 points
-
Nah, always take them at their word. As soon as you start making excuses for them then you are doing exactly what they want. I didn’t believe they were gonna turn it around when he said it, but HE said it without anyone putting it in his mouth, and he should be held to that.2 points

Anyone who took what JR said about the team being better and undergoing a quick turnaround seriously, is an idiot. I'm sorry.2 points
-
The problem is, Getz took over a 101 loss team that JR told us would be better. Granted he said he didn't know how much better, but it was 20 games worse, and set a record for losses. It is absolutely disgusting. There are plenty of organizations, the ones where winning and not kissing the ring of the owner takes precedence, where, yes Getz wouldn't have been hired in the first place, but since he was, he would be gone. It shouldn't take long to find out if someone is in over their head. The Bears didn't need 5 years to know Trestman and Emery were junk, and they aren't exactly known as a team where winning is the only focus. If you suck, you suck. Getz sucks. To me, not recognizing it is the same as keeping RH and KW around so long. He has shown you what he is. Unfortunately, that is a hack. He did something no other GM has ever been bad enough to accomplish, and say what you want, he wasn't trying to lose that many games.2 points

I'm sure the Yankees will show interest in Crochet, but they won't want to give up any of their good prospects. A perfect trade partner for Getz!2 points

I agree that Crochet should be dealt because he won’t be in the window of the Sox being competitive. I still fear what Getz trades him for.1 point

You’re the schmo who accused me of not having visited the neighborhood in a long time and not knowing what I’m talking about. All I have done is refute your spurious claims. I could give two shits about winning an argument with a willfully ignorant message board troll. I actually don’t want the Sox to leave Armour Square, I want them to be a winning franchise that draws fans to the park. And for the park to have entertainment options beyond standing around it the fucking parking lot getting loaded before heading to the gates. I am simply a realist about the state of the franchise, and its future in a residential neighborhood with dwindling options for pre and post game. The manner in which fans engage and experience baseball has drastically changed since Comiskey II opened, and the park’s fan experience is antiquated today. I’m tired of my favorite team being light years behind the rest of baseball in nearly every facet, especially from a fan experience standpoint. Change is needed and it’s not going to happen at 35th & Shields while Jerry is in power.1 point

Not bad effort from greg, folks. They had 41 wins and I also had under 50 which is hard to do. I'm a little ashamed I didn't go lower. I knew the team reeked thus me not purchasing mlb.com for the first time in many moons. I'm sure I'll stick with under 50 wins for 2025 cause I don't expect much movement except trading Robert and Crochet and those players we get aren't ready.1 point

Sounds like the perfect “Overton Window Hire” to prepare for the return of Ozzie.1 point

Just an example: This was before he had his team intentionally throw at a guy, resulting in a brawl where he got suspended 10 games. For more context: He swapped his starter for an opener to throw at a guy. He also got ejected from the same game twice.1 point

You're darn right. The demand to pay for a free product is an interesting social experiment to say the least. I wouldn't mind a non-blacked out app, though. I'm thinking that's not a possibility.1 point

The Os System isn't all that great anymore when you consider holliday, mayo and basallo untouchable. Sure getting one of the 3 as a headliner would be great but the Os weakest positions are second, third and first base and those are exactly the positions that their big 3 prospects project to play at (basallo can catch but most see him better Suited at 1B as he isn't a good defender). The Os need holliday at second and urias isn't great at third either so that keeps those two. At first mountcastle isn't bad but after they moved back the left field wall his power doesn't really play there anymore and he is more of a 15-20 homer guy with an ok but not great hit tool. The Os might want more than .270 with 20 homers from the 1b spot. But if anyone out of the 3 would be available it would be basallo.1 point

Rodon's basically unhittable when he has good command of the slider. Great start for him tonight.1 point

I mentioned many years ago there were blueprints made concerning developing some of the parking lots with bars and restaurants. JR wanted nothing to do with it. He eventually partially relented and we got the ChiSox Bar and Grill where he gets all the money and the gift shop. He doesn’t want anything around there unless he has access to the cash register.1 point

That is what he told us. Being better than a 101 loss team isn't a high bar. Getz fell over 20 games short. That's a lot. That's the difference between a 100 win team, and a below .500 team. Getz himself mentioned the AL Central as not being a particularly strong division.1 point

Didn't JR supposedly promise that McCuddy's would be rebuilt? Yet for 30+ years nothing has been built other than the very overpriced ChiSox Bar & Grill, that is only open on game days. But please, tell me about all of the money invested immediately outside of Guaranteed Rate Field, from 33rd to 37th, Normal to Wentworth. I will hang up and listen...1 point

I live in Bridgeport, and I was taking about the sea of empty lots immediate around the ballpark that sit empty 284 times a year. But please, tell more about my own neighborhood, where I reside, work, and spend the majority of my time.1 point

I think the pitching staff stands to be a clear upgrade over the bunch that broke camp in 2024. Even if they keep Grady, I think they head into 2025 with a lot more energy than this last season.1 point

Taylor didn't enjoy the long layoff it turns out. Struggled with location and gave up a 2 run HR, a pair of walks, and a 2R throwing error before hitting his pitch limit. Adler and Elko put out the fire with a foul pop DP at 1B. Colson adds this double to help get a pair back. He's 2-2.1 point
-
Grant Taylor is going to be so good. Doesn't hurt to be spotted a very healthy lead too. Singles for Montgomery and Elko who both came around to score (the Reds bats are nice), and a 106mph 432ft shot for Turner to chase the starter:1 point
