  1. Sell em to Mellody Hobson....still get the 1st Black majority owner and Dave Stewart gets shut out.....that's a win win in my book. I still say JR is not selling though.

  2. The 78 is the right move for the future of the Chicago White Sox. A new owner with money and a vision and could turn it into the gold standard for baseball parks. it could be the gem of the South Loop, surrounded by restaurants and entertainment. I love Sox Park, I think it's great, but anyone from out of town will come away with a negative opinion of the neighborhood. Once inside the park I think they would admit the experience of watching the game is pretty good, would they really want to come back, probably not, unfortunately the park is not a destination. In the long run I want 2 things, the Sox stay in Chicago for another 120 + years, and TLR is out the door when the new owner walks in.

  3. Still amazes me how excited some people seem to be about the team leaving the state.

  4. I 100% think this is happening behind the scenes. It makes too much sense with what we know already.

  6. 2005 everything went right. That was his model. It was the one year it totally worked. He should get credit. I understand your point, but if we can blast him for all his failures, you have to give him credit for the one year he got it right. The one issue with that was it seemed to have convinced him, his way is the only way. And we have all paid for it since.

  9. I will be honest, I think the odds of the Sox moving are less than 5%. I am a firm believer in that MLB wants a 2nd team in Chicago, because it is more profitable for them to be here. Whether that is the White Sox, or the expansion White Sox, there will be a 2nd team here for the future.

  10. Which is always the part about a potential "move" that never made sense to me. The growth is here for an ownership group that actually gives a s%*#.

  11. Ok, but he and TLR were horrible at running the D-Backs

  12. With all due respect to Rich who is a long time friend but he has been talking about the Sox moving for the last 20 years in part he has said because of the fan dislike towards JR. He says the fan base won't support the team so in essence what choice does JR have? Naturally I disagree with Rich and have told him so.

  14. I have absolutely no interest in a Dodgers-Yankees WS. Give me the Yankees, I guess, but I won’t be watching any games. The Yankees were the best team in the AL pretty much the entire season. Just because they didn’t wow you in the exactly two games you watched them doesn’t change that.

  15. 2005 was fluky lucky in which everything went right. The 2006 offense was crazy good and the team should have been better than the 2005 team, but the pitching, both the starters and bullpen, completely went into the shitter.

  16. Again, if Chris Getz had a choice between 2 players in this last year, I think he literally chose the wrong one every, single, time. I know the Stan's want to blame Rick Hahn, but the Getz trail of destruction is Hurricane like

  17. Anyone get Buehrle flip vibes on that missed play by NYY?

  18. Yes. It wasn’t by design. Contreras had an ERA of 5.30 the previous year. Jenks was off the scrap heap. Dumb luck.

  20. he has been saying this for a lot longer than six or seven years. Like I wrote, Rich is a friend but I think he is very wrong with his belief in this case.

  21. The Sox having a historically bad season and then being sold with the intention of being moved sounds like an appropriate Old Yeller like ending to my Sox fandom. But hey, ‘05 was fun.

  23. They said last time the Sox needed a new park the park they had was falling apart and dangerous to be in. They wouldn’t dare say the same thing now. Plus teams that have moved have had many many years of ballpark battles. This fight just started. Publicly funded stadiums were a thing for a while, but not anymore. Several years before that, they were moving to Seattle before Bill Veeck saved the day. There was talk Charlie Finley would have moved the As to the south side.. I it was a different era then. Attendance was what it all was about. While still important, not nearly as much as it was back then. It’s very hard to move in MLB.

  24. We are in totally agreement re: the second paragraph. MLB won't stop a move, but I doubt they would OK a move without retaining the right to replace the team in Chicago in the future. MLB would be leaving money on the table for a generation without a second team in the third largest market in the country. The White Sox share of the Chicago market is still viable despite what JR claims, and ceding the entire market to the Cubs when their market share wouldn't drastically expand for years is just bad business.

  25. Jordan's ultimate 'f*** you' to Jerry for breaking up the Bulls dynasty would be buying the White Sox, Jerry's first love, and turning it into a perennial contender doing everything Jerry has refused to do for 40 years... #IfOnly

  26. Tampa had a dome with no team and the Sox had an aging ballpark and were looking for a new home. The circumstances were a little bit different back then. The public appetite for tax-payer funded playgrounds for billionaires is much different today too. Not saying a move is impossible, but the scenarios are very different IMO.

  27. That was almost 40: years ago, and what would have happened if JR moved to Tampa? He have moved again. Not moving was the best thing that ever happened to JR. Back then even he admitted moving would have most likely led him to sell the Bulls. He would probably be universally known as the one of the worst sports owners in history. If you read up on Stewart’s group, they plan to privately fund a stadium. Not many think they have the money. Who in their right mind would move a business whose model is basically built on broadcast revenue move from Chicago to Nashville? At the very least, people who buy these team usually have egos, and it’s pretty obvious the White Sox have been poorly run for years. They see a cash cow if operated correctly. It’s just like real estate. The 3 most important things are location, location, location.

  28. Isn't it true that, had it not been for the legislature pretending a clock had stopped before midnight, right now the Tampa Bay White Sox would be figuring out what stadium they were going to play in next year after their roof was shredded by a hurricane?

  29. Not trying to be political, but I think your demographic breakdown for any group of people in Chicago are not accurate. Democrats have run Chicago for decades.

  34. I would say it is a great time to buy. This team is not at a revenue high, so everything is projections and growth. There are literally hundreds of millions in valuation sitting on the sidelines. In the right hands this could be a 3 billion dollar business.

  35. Is this a really good time for the Stewart group to buy the Sox? The team is in horrible shape. There is no stadium in Nashville if they want to move. A new stadium in Chicago isn't happening, at least for now. Other than using Nashville for leverage, I don't see why this story was leaked to the media. Don't know what Reinsdorf is trying to accomplish with this.

  36. "Not that the Bulls have earned much more attention from fans than the Hawks. Both teams have lost enough games to make fans question whether it’s worth dropping hundreds of dollars to go to the United Center. So now, not only is it expensive to go to a game, it’s difficult for many to watch one on TV. Combine limited access with limited winning, and you have two business operations in trouble. Perhaps the NBA’s popularity will spark an agreement before the Bulls’ season opener Wednesday. But don’t count on it. In the most remarkable turn of events, Comcast, for once, is under no pressure to appease a sports network. If it was losing enough subscribers for not carrying CHSN, it would carry CHSN. Carriage isn’t a priority until it is. After not carrying the Big Ten Network when it launched in 2007, Comcast subscriptions plummeted. The next year, BTN appeared on Xfinity systems. That might be what it takes for CHSN to appear on Comcast, unless the network bends to the company’s wishes. CHSN is in a tough spot, but it’s one they should’ve seen coming." from the previously-linked article, CS-T

  41. The other owners are not going to agree to the Sox being moved. Chicago is the 3rd largest market in the Country and will never be without an AL team.

  42. I love the we don't comment on rumors and speculation when they are the ones who leaked the info. They take us all for fools. The fact that he is "negotiating" strickly with Stewart's group shows you he isn't serious. It's a political play.Call the bluff.
