It's not that people don't believe it, it's that it's irrational and stupid and so people don't want to believe it. The payroll is already very low, the priority should be on adding young prospect talent not watering down packages for salary relief.6 points

Because it doesn't make any sense. I'm sure they'd love to dump Beni. I personally would just keep him. He was solid last few months of the season and he a good first half away from being moveable without being a negative asset. But if they can dump him now to open up more ABs for Fletcher/Deloach/Colas, I won't argue. That said, taking less return on Crochet to dump Beni makes less than no sense.5 points

Exactly. Benintendi in the second half… 235 PA .263 AVG .328 OBP .502 SLG .830 OPS 13 HR 38 RBI It makes zero sense to ruin any trade return by including Benintendi. The payroll is already one of the lowest in the MLB. You may as well see if Benintendi continues his good second half into 2025 and then you can likely trade him without it hurting so bad.3 points

Not weird. IMO opinion, the timing and selection of the Ramova venue was a fantastic decision. The renovated theatre/restaurant/ brewery near 35th and Halsted is beautiful. Support from private investors and the cooperation of National Historic landmarks (new roof), TIF financing, and the dedication of Emily and Tyler Nevius makes a statement about the revival of that area and surrounding businesses ... including the WSox. If someone would prefer going to a downtown hotel, OK, but for me, I think this venue and location will be wonderful. If anyone here is going, please post a pic or two.3 points

Greg, for the 525,600th time: The Sox were literally barred by the league from tanking last year. They cannot draft higher than #10 despite having lost 121 games. This isn't tanking. This is simply not trying.3 points

Eh, I’m not so sure about that. I think plenty of Sox fans would actually pay the money to go blast Jerry and Getz. I wouldn’t, because then I would be funding these clowns more money. But many Sox fans would. This was a strategic move by the Sox to avoid being lambasted by a massive crowd of angry Sox fans.3 points

The payroll is low enough Jerry, please don’t force Beni into a Crochett deal to make it lower. In a stand along deal the Sox would have to include 25-30 million…and still get nothing of value back2 points

I don’t quite understand your second outcome. There’s only one reason that a team would take on Benintendi and his contract in a Crochet trade, and that is to pay less in the form of prospects for Crochet. The return of a trade of Crochet and Benintendi won’t be “about the same” as a trade of Crochet alone. Teams don’t take on $47.5 million in salary over the next 3 years for free, and we all know that Benintendi’s .685 OPS and noodle arm in LF isn’t worth that money.2 points

I’ve seen the same Bucket Boys halftime show the last four games I’ve been to. They were also out of pizza on the 200 level by the first timeout.2 points

I think the Hail Mary and fallout has kind of broken Stevenson. He showed a lot of promise last season and was looking decent this season until that happened. Now he is just a guaranteed 10 yards2 points

“It’s unclear if the former All-Star has drawn any sort of attention or if the team is simply making him available.“ 🤣🤣🤣2 points

The Bulls are a cash cow and consistently draw well at least. The White Sox are much worse off than the Twins in 2001-02 when the commissioner threatened to contract them...but only due to the Chicago market and history will Reinsdorf be spared, seemingly. And greed. The owners want to expand, not move teams around the chessboard.2 points

On the other hand accumulation of talent is not just for playoff teams. You need talent to get to 60, 70 ,80 wins too. The more talent you have the more you can do with it. Many are talking about a 10 year rebuild . If Getz has any kind of vision it might have more to do with being more like Tampa Bay and they are always trying to go from average to above average , playoff team by finding a balance between developing youth and trading it away at the right time and continuing to win.Depth of talent has to come 1st and that only happens once you fix scouting and player development domestically and internationally. Then your GM has to trust his talent evaluators in trades. I think most GMs scamble to gather info from their guys once a team shows interest in your players .A good infrastructure can provide that info efficiently and identify players of interest from all levels of any system.2 points

The hilarious thing is this team managed to lose 121 games while trying not to tank. Such an astude observer of sports you are.2 points

What did you watch the last two seasons, FFS pay closer attention. Jerry sucks and is cheap, the end. Nothing you say about throwing money at problems will help. This situation is what it is, you keep suggesting the same stupid things that will never happen and the rest of us are merely hoping that someone will draft or sign someone internationally that can possibly be competent for the entire short tenure with the major league club before they are deemed too expensive every time you do that stupid “just win, baby” it’s like you are standing in front of a car with no engine telling it “just drive, baby”. IT DOESNT WORK BECAUSE IT DOESNT HAVE THE RIGHT PARTS AND THE OWNER DOESNT WANT TO BUY THEM OR MAINTAIN THEM2 points

MLB teams profit on local TV revenue, ticket sales, merchandise sales, parking, concessions, etc. However, you need to look into revenue sharing as well. For example, MLB.tv revenue goes to the central MLB fund, which is eventually divided up amongst all 30 teams for revenue sharing, along with the luxury tax, and other forms of revenue. https://www.thetribune.ca/sports/mlb/1 point
-
They make money because the national AND international revenue streams are more than ever before and are shared equally. National broadcast money is shared equally and it is a lot... the local advertising deals to go along with the local radio/TV deals still produce money despite how bad the team is, that money has already been paid to the Sox, it is already drawing interest in the bank. Now add in concessions, parking and merchandise... it all ads up. Then remember that during the "rebuild" between 2017-2019 the Sox either had the lowest team payroll in baseball or near the bottom. That "savings" added up and reduced losses because of COVID. Just a few years ago MLB sold one of their properties to BAT Technology. Each team got a 50 million dollar check. JR has a sweetheart lease agreement on his stadium which also impacts the bottom line. JR can claim he's losing money but the circumstantial evidence doesn't support it and of course until JR opens his books to an independent auditor we will never know with 100% accuracy. But color me VERY skeptical he's losing a dime.1 point

But seriously, imagine paying $225 dollars for the MVP Experience after the team just made the record books for being one of the worst teams in MLB history.1 point

Unless a lot of former Sox players are in attendance, who would want any autographs from the pile of scrubs that Getz has assembled?1 point

Apparently neither of the available ticket packages for this include any autograph sessions. https://bsky.app/profile/soxmachinejosh.bsky.social/post/3lbkjfprlns2l1 point

I imagine The Ramova is faaaar cheaper than the Hyatt or Palmer House.....which is your answer regarding venue change. Looks like the kids portion is in an entirely different location which is ridiculous.1 point

Gotta keep the venue small or the collective negativity could open up a portal to the Upside Down.1 point

At some point don’t you need to read the room? EVERY SINGLE Sox hitter has been an utter failure the past few seasons. Maybe, just maybe, it’s an organizational failure and not on the individual players? Again, I’m not saying that I expect Vaughn to have a miracle turnaround just because there’s a new coaching staff…but it is more than possible. Giving up on a former top 10 pick to shave $3M off of our $90M (or whatever it ends up at) payroll is indeed dumb. It’s over emotional fan thinking.1 point
-
1- another team would scoop up Vaughn for sure 2- what on earth do you think saving $3-4M on Vaughn is going to do for us?? Letting Vaughn just walk would actually be one of the dumber things this franchise could do1 point
-
With the new voices in the clubhouse, it's worth another shot to see if maybe he can put that Cal swing together. What difference does a 1 x $4 - $6M contract make when the payroll is going to be miniscule...1 point

The time that Lopez felt something in his elbow, Renteria went out to the mound, Lopez said everything was fine so Renteria went back to the dugout, Abreu walked to the mound, asked him what was up, got a different answer, and Abreu called the trainer back out and Lopez wound up with a short preventative 15 day IL trip was a pretty good day of out-managing the coach for Abreu.1 point
