I think the not caring about “which side of the ball the next coach comes from” is to address candidates like Vrabel and Rivera, who are both defensive head coaches, however the both of them presumably would know how to handle setting up the offensive side for success due to their history. To me, Brown will have to look extra special to get this job. The final run of this season would have to be undeniably special and he would need to be the reason for it. There will be many good candidates available soon, staying in house for some stupid continuity s%*# is exactly how we got here.3 points

does your history teacher enjoy reading David Brooks and does he dislike the meritocracy? my dad sent me some article that Brooks wrote a couple weeks ago, one line reads, " [such and such] led to the defenestration of multiple Ivy League presidents", so naturally my first instinct is to tell SoxTalk.2 points

Johnson just honestly feels like when Shanahan was entering the HC search. Is he an obvious “leader of men” with his Hurley hats and mumbling? Was Belichek? Easier to lead when people know you are putting them in best position. That said - I think it’s incredibly impressive when coaches can win with subpar qb talent. Vrabel and now Bowles (and Johnson) didn’t make excuses, worked with who they had and built the whole team. Robert Schmitz tried to talk s%*# about vrabel without Arthur Smith, only to find his numbers were completely off. Titans talent never felt overwhelming aside from two to three blue chip talents (brown, Henry, Simmons) but won. If flus had last years titans he’d have been 1-15. I don’t really know that anyone has a great feel for hiring coaches except the packers. But if we can’t import their brains for this decision…I’m ok with either Johnson or Vrabel. Anyone else is a huge wild card. And neither is a guarantee. But I don’t mind bears missing on Nagy, and I won’t mind if it turns out Johnson is just Daboll 2.0. Still is the right decision or “roll of the dice” imo. Definitely possible I fall in love with brown but I hope not. Id love to get the first of the lions coaches and the raid of coaching talent from it.2 points

Idk, after the past month and ineptitude, I feel like the NFL equivalent of the Sox is our own NFL team in town.2 points

Cal Mitchell, OF out of Pittsburg's minor league system, just spent the previous year treading water in El Paso for the Padres.1 point

This - the only scenario I see here is if you are Poles maybe you don’t go for Vrabel or Beli (or last year Harbaugh) cause they would bring more power and thus you prefer the greener candidates. This allows that scenario to be off the table but it also shows a lack of trust.1 point

I didn't know he knew how to do that. A+.1 point

I’m not 100% against a Defensive-oriented HC if it’s a proven guy like Vrabel, but I strongly prefer going with someone Offensive-minded. With the former, even if they are able to identify a quality O-coordinator, the risk is they will quickly be poached if successful and create more reoccurring turnover in that role. I also think it’s simply much easier to find a quality D-coordinator. Regardless, the most important thing is not to go cheap with a low ceiling, first time HC like Eberflus again. Either swing for the fences with Johnson or go with someone with an actual track record of success like Vrabel. Fair or not, I’d be hard pressed to elevate Brown to the role full-time no matter his success.1 point

I read a fan say he lost his emotional attachment to the Bears, it was probably after the Hail Mary pass at Washington. We need White Sox Spring Training to get us charged up, LET'S GO !!!1 point

Whoa Nelly, I may not have ever warmed up to George Halas or the McCaskey's but to go over to the Packers? I think that would take time to reflect and walk the earth to decide ....NEVER 🙂1 point

What makes you so sure Chicago would get another expansion team? Houston is going to pass Chicago in population in the next decade, or so, and nobody is talking about a 2nd team for Houston.1 point

So it seems that Getz keeps asking for more than what our guys are reasonably worth. How long until he gets into the same groove as everyone before him? Ask for what they are worth, settle for less than what they are worth, and move on? Other teams can get away with it and sometimes come out clear winners in trades, but that's not us. We lose trades. That's our DNA. So stop the nonsense and do the job we expect from you.1 point

Particularly for the type of mediocre returns that Getz has been getting for our better players.1 point

Looking back...drafting Bowers would have made more sense than Odunze. That guy is a generational TE talent with even O'Connell/Minshew and they also could have traded from their TE surplus if they so desired. But talent-wise, it's night and day with the White Sox or even the Bulls.1 point

Chicago sports needs to be burned to the ground, every single franchise is in shambles right now outside of the Cubs who still aren't close to being a championship caliber team1 point

The Sox are hopeless the time to trade him was last offseason when he had his best year. He is going to be worth a fraction of his actual value right now. We did the same thing with Cease traded him the offseason coming off a down year for scraps and watched him almost win a cy young. How about we hold onto Robert until he is playing well then move him. We can ask for top prospects all we want I take no solace in that because our track record is to give into the market after shopping a player and the market for a season Robert is coming off of is going to be nowhere near what it should be. Prove me wrong Getz1 point

I feel like those kind of overpay contracts are worse than the Star players getting overpaid.1 point

What would be ideal is if we did the Crochet deal to BOS for Montgomery (RF) and Campbell (2B) and moved Robert to PHI for Crawford (CF).1 point

Being a sports nut my whole life the only team I actually really care about are the White Sox. If the Cardinals were still in Chicago, I probably would cheer for them over the Bears. My comparison for franchises would be the Sox & Cardinals, two sad sack teams.1 point

I heard some call DePaul the White Sox of College Basketball.1 point

I gotta say, Paddy sure signed a lot of R/R 3b types who were sort of marginal prospects. Hard to get excited about the latest.1 point

Crochet and Robert are both relatively cheap. There is no reason to trade them unless blown away. Seems obvious to me.1 point
-
I do not see Robert getting traded, as it would likely mean they sold low on him Sox are better off keeping him and hoping that he rebuilds his trade value1 point
-
And we waste 5 years trying to get the other 9 hitters around him.0 points

Can you imagine the atmosphere in the Sox organization right now? When there's a mandate to not increase payroll and the worst 40 man roster in league history, it must be constant negativity every day. We do have a new manager so he's got to at least convince the players they have a chance if they play hard every day. I'd assume the manager is upbeat and has a personality.0 points
