  1. 1. Sell the team 2. Hire a GM.

  2. I hate that BA includes Thorpe. Nobody else will because he’s not a prospect anymore. Not rookie eligible.

  4. The only way Garrett Crochet doesn't net 2 top 100 prospects is because Chris Getz is our GM. I can say confidently that the pushback is 1000% posturing and that there are people around the league, involved in talent eval and player acquisition, that have Crochet in their top 10 most valuable arms in baseball given his contract, innings pitched, and willingness to sign-on for, what is believed to be, a less than market-value extension (meaning his goal appears to be stability and not maximizing every dollar).

  6. The beauty of this in baseball is that it's random and unpredictable. You can game plan around it hoping to line up your best vs their best, but the stakes are impacted by variables that aren't predetermined. This rule would drastically alter fundamental aspects of baseball chasing a fabricated instant gratification. Walk-off wins are beautiful because any of your 1-9 could be the hero that night, and arbitrarily being able to jump the batting order to insert a star player cheapens those moments, and the game itself. We don't need to ruin baseball by turning it into football or basketball.

  7. This is like the one thing I care about this offseason. If we're trading Garrett we better not be forcing a salary dump that's going to hurt our return when this team has 0 payroll to begin with.

  8. For reference, here is how Steamer 600 projects that lineup for next year: 1B: Vaughn (1.6 fWAR | 110 wRC+) 2B: Sosa (1.7 fWAR | 95 wRC+) SS: Baldwin# (2.0 fWAR | 92 wRC+) 3B: Vargas (1.9 fWAR | 105 wRC+) LF: Benintendi (1.5 fWAR | 105 wRC+) CF: Robert (2.4 fWAR | 104 wRC+) RF: Fletcher (0.1 fWAR | 82 wRC+) DH: Rice* (1.8 fWAR | 115 wRC+) CA: Quero# (2.3 fWAR | 97 wRC+) Outside of RF, all these guys project to be slightly below average to average regulars. Overall it’s a bad lineup and not all these guys are going to hit those projections, but if we can end up with two of Sosa, Baldwin, Vargas, & Fletcher (or DeLoach) becoming second division starters moving forward that’s a better outcome than hoping we can flip some scrap heap signings for useful prospects at the deadline.

  15. Plan? Ya’ll think there’s a plan?? I think it’s pretty much this: ✅ Get a new manager and some new coaches ✅ Trade the G ✅ Try to trade R ✅ Field any team that costs next to nothing Play ball.

  16. Damn, someone ate their Wheaties this morning with all these hard flexes. You word for word asked me if I would trade a better prospect than Eder for Rice and I replied “Sure, it depends on the prospect”. You’re obsessed with the Eder part of the idea (which I came up with in two seconds because an MLB.com writer had him as part of a mock trade to the Yankees) whereas the point was trying to buy low on Rice. And while I disagree on Eder’s value, I would trade a better pitching prospect for him like I already stated. But keep on flexing brother and get that anger out of your system.

  17. I seriously doubt he could be moved through waivers. Have you seen the type of guys that get picked up on the regular?

  18. To be fair, I wasn't here because Chris Getz felt the need to willingly sign a player who no one else in the league wanted because he beats women.

  22. Jim Bowden proposal in The Athletic: White Sox Give: CF Luis Robert White Sox Get: 3B Cam Collier (20 years old | Y22 1st round pick | #5 org prospect) SS Tyson Lewis (18 years old | Y24 2nd round pick | #9 org prospect) RHP Luke Holman (21 years old | Y24 CB-B pick | #11 to #15 org prospect) I would accept that offer in a heartbeat.

  23. You are right, and it sucks, but this is the way any GM would have to run a team when the owner doesn’t want to give any one player a large contract.

  24. How exactly do you plan on building an offense when you’d trade our only high end positional prospect for more SP and don’t want to use Crochet to add positional prospects?

  25. My own opinion heavily weighs in favor of doing that. I am among those who think Garret has Chris Sale potential and if so, he might eventually become any team's Ace, but certainly the WSox. Oh "T100" prospects... Prospects do nothing for me with rare exceptions and as an example, none of those exceptional talents are in our system. For example, Colson Montgomery, our top prospect...no one seems to know if he can be a MLB SS or if he will even hit for average at the ML level. I think there are close to even odds that Colson either becomes a star or becomes a bust. Hypothetically if any team wanted to trade for Colson and offered any legit starting pitcher, I would take that deal so fast...

  26. Beast: I am out 15 miles further than Woodridge and the broadcast picture on my OLED is indistinguishable from cable. Outdoor/Attic antennas are directional so you need to point the small side toward the Hancock. You can get the angle to point it from https://www.antennasdirect.com/transmitter-locator.html This is not a hard task, especially if you can locate existing cable TV RG6 running to your TV in the attic near your attic scuttle hole. Obviously there are antenna contractors if you don't want to or are not able to do this. That's me anymore.

  27. I'm not sure I'd make it sound easy to give him an extention or if you can describe such a thing as below market value. The 2 years he has left in arbitration do lessen his value if he were to sign an extension right away. After all he does have an injury history and also has less than a years worth of full time starting pitching. On his side of course is that he does seem primed to be a 180+ innings elite starting pitcher going forward. He waits to sign he could have a much bigger contract in a year if he puts up another healthy year of elite pitching. If he gets hurt in 2025 he really hurts his value. After all there also has to be concern about how hell bounce back from his 2024 innings load. If he wants to prioritize instant security as a hedge against injury in his next 2 years this could work in the Sox favor. I wouldn't call it less than market value. There's just things to consider about the future that could hurt him or really make him very very rich. I think signing right away and getting opt outs can be a reasonable deal for all sides involved.

  28. Hopefully Manfred made the comment just to see the reaction. I’m happy baseball fans know it’s dumb and this will just go away. I’m no Manfred fan, but some of the recent changes- pitch timer and defensive alignment have been helpful for the pace of the game. The runner on second base in extra innings is dumb, and should start in the 12th inning if must be, but I can live with it. This golden at bat idea is garbage.

  30. The Garrett Crochet trade will tell me most everything I need to know about what the Chris Getz era is going to look like. If Andrew Benitendi is in the deal, it means Chris has zero power and it just doing exactly what Jerry tells him to do, as no unencumbered GM waters down the deal for their superstar with a bad contract. Maximizing this deal could literally take a year or two off of the rebuild if you can find multiple offensive starts from this deal. Reduce that return for a stupid contract that you should just eat anyway, and that doesn't happen.

  33. I don't think you pass on a talent like Crochet due to rotation make-up concerns given that teams are using 10-15 starters a year now-a-days anyway.

  34. As mentioned above, I do not want us to sign a bunch of DeJong types this offseason. We have a ton of fringe major leaguers that should be battling for spots and allow them to swing or swim until better prospects are ready. As such, this is the lineup that I’d like to see on Opening Day. Right now, I’m assuming none of the prospects received are major league ready. 1B: Vaughn 2B: Sosa (eventual shift to reserve infielder role) SS: Baldwin# (shift to 2B once Montgomery is ready) 3B: Vargas (potentially Ramos as some point) LF: Benintendi* CF: Robert RF: Fletcher*, DeLoach*, or Colas* DH: Rice*, Rule 5 pick, or other trade CA: Lee (Quero# up by May 1st) As highlighted above, Montgomery eventually gets called up and takes over SS until he proves he can’t handle the position. That forces Baldwin to 2B unless Sosa is absolutely killing it. If not, Lenyn moves to a backup role and can serve as the weak-side of a 2B platoon (he was one of our better hitters against LHP last year). Quero will come up before May 1st and is only starting the season in AAA for service time manipulation. Ramos is a wild card and could factor into a lot of spots. Unfortunately with Vargas, it seems like we need to give him an extended look somewhere and 3B appears to be the spot they have in mind. If so, I’d give Ramos a bit more seasoning in AAA and have him start playing some OF to improve his utility. I wouldn’t be against him filling in at multiple spots (3B, 2B, LF, etc.) next year once ready. By keeping Robert & Benintendi, you only have one OF spot to for the three AAAA OF types. Unless Crochet returns a major league ready OF, I think you let Fletcher and DeLoach battle for the spot (with Colas a long-shot third option). I am incredibly low on all these options, but at least Fletcher’s defense provides a path to a solid 4th OF with any meaningful improvement with the bat. He’d be the guy I’d plan on getting the role, but I’d make him earn it. Slater should be used as the weak side of a RF platoon regardless. Also, it’s abundantly clear that we need to get one legit OF prospect in a Crochet trade and ideally one that’s not too far off because Robert & Benintendi could be gone by August.

  36. For me, here are my offseason goals: Trade Crochet for the best pair of positional prospects including one with legit star potential (Red Sox & Phillies are my two favorite trade partners) Explore a Robert trade leading up to Opening Day, but only consider it if you can get a legit top 100 / 50 FV positional prospect in return Hold onto Benintendi unless someone will absorb 80% or more of his salary and certainly do not force him into a Crochet deal Sign a free agent reliever to a one year deal who can slot into the closer role and be a potential flip candidate at the deadline (Jordan Romano is my favorite target right now depending on his health status) Acquire a young, LH bat that can slot into the DH spot and potentially be a long-term piece (Ben Rice is my top target for this spot, but also willing to utilize the Rule 5 draft to grab a lottery ticket like Bob Seymour) Take a pitcher with the 1.01 pick in the Rule 5 draft (Magdaleno, Castellano, etc.) and seriously consider drafting a second player at 2.01 (potentially a positional player like Franklin or Seymour) Continue adding guys to minor league deals, but avoid major league deals on placeholder types, especially for the lineup and rotation

  41. https://www.mlb.com/cut4/10-bizarre-rules-from-baseballs-past/c-124363454 Let's get back to real baseball. 😆 Underhanded pitching, batters could request a high or low pitch, return to first team to score 21 runs wins no matter how many or how few innings are played, only day games. Toss in some double-headers.

  42. Look, if you really want to showcase the game’s superstars more, another way to do it is to just eliminate those boring, good-for-nothing non superstars. Anyone that has an OPS under 700 falls through a trap door into a snake pit the next time they take the field. Baseball is evolving, folks. Get on the bus or get run over. (Oh yeah, there will also be a bus driving around on the field during play.)

  43. Juan Soto might never see an at bat if he signed here. He literally might approach 400 walks per year. He’d be a half-billion dollar 8-10 HR guy and may not drive in 30 runs. We would likely witness one of the most unthinkable stat lines in the modern era. .280/.850/1.200/9 HR/27 RBI/40 Runs? Pitch counts would be down league-wide from the number of times they’d point to first.

  44. You do realize the Hall of Fame's standards, generally speaking, are greatness in comparison to your era's peers, right? That's why you have guys like Edgar Martinez, Frank Thomas, and Trevor Hoffman in the Hall. Back when they were playing, there was still a lot of debate over if they deserved to be in the Hall because of their positions (DH = failed fielder; CL / RP = failed starter). The Hall's standards evolve with the game, so the whole "you need (x) wins to get in the Hall" is an extremely outdated notion.
