She'd outhit most of this line up.5 points

Tauchman is a perfectly fine role player at what should be $2M to $3M. I don’t think adding him is about getting a potential trade deadline asset, but more so a veteran stopgap and clubhouse presence. I will wait to see what other moves happen being drawing conclusions here. I don’t love the idea of an all veteran OF next year, but I kind of think Robert or Benintendi is getting moved.5 points

He will hit .175 for us and play like trash. That's what happens when mediocre guys sign with the Sox, they become worse.4 points
-
I think we should stop being disappointed. They are not trying right now. They are years away from putting together an actual real team. If ever.4 points

Shows you how backwards the White Sox thinking was not even considering him. Obviously a trillion to one that they could sign him, but JR doesn't understand, even though he had Michael Jordan, stars pay for themselves. It's the other fodder that burns you.4 points

It goes under the radar because very few people actually care about the MLB draft, but the lottery system they’ve put in place has to be 1 of the dumber things in all of sports. Establish a salary cap floor and fine owners for being non competitive for too long if you truly care. Instead they just made it harder for the team to get better. Jerry is probably happy he saves $ not having to pay the #1 pick. He doesn’t give a damn where the team drafts, the rule is meaningless to him and the handful of other terrible owners.3 points

It'll be the most White Sox thing to happen if they actually do trade Cease and get equal or better value than we did.3 points

I don't think there was a mutiny last year. Clubhouse seemed pretty good overall for a historically bad season.3 points

I hated the Fletcher trade and it is objectively the wrong call to block any of those three guys with Slater + Tauchman.3 points
-
Not sure if serious or not, but these guys at all 26/27 and have already played in big leagues. None of them would be getting rushed at this point, and the Sox need to figure out what they have with each of Fletcher, Deloach and Colas this season. Even if you want to assume the Sox are done with Colas (which him remaining on the 40 man would potentially suggest otherwise), it still applies to the other two. Even if we somehow get A+ version of Tauchman from April-June, you're getting (at best) at backend top 30 flyer or a AAAA type. Just play the fringe guys and see what we have. It doesn't make any sense within the context of the whole roster and where things stand. That being said, Tauchman is a big leaguer, is probably better than all three of those guys and I can't imagine costs more than $3-4M. So its not like this is some brutal move, it just doesn't make a lot of sense considering the circumstances.3 points

I have no idea whats going on in this thread. That Mike Tauchman, hey....3 points

Maybe the White Sox should try to not be the worst team in baseball history again? You think it's logical or smart for a team to throw a minor league product on the field over and over again in the name of "rebuilding." I think you're a complete dunce. All the White Sox are doing by "rebuilding," as you define it, is saving money. There's zero reason the White Sox can't rebuild and also pay some major league players to come here and compete. This idea that if you rebuild you must spend zero dollars is ownership-propogated bullshit. The White Sox can build up the organization, overhaul analytics, invest more internationally and on amateur scouting, while also putting a competent MLB product on the field. The things you believe are OK and logical are going to leave you as the only fan left of this dreadful organization.3 points

Holy s%*# dude, there's no excuse for a Chicago based team to be running payrolls below the A's. Regardless of your "reason" for why it's happening, it's embarrassing. Why do weirdo's like you stan for owners saving money. Truly baffling stuff!3 points
-
What's your point? That the White Sox have more reasons to be the cheapest franchise in baseball than the A's? Congrats.3 points

JR should sign Taylor Swift, just think of the revenues she would bring in.3 points

We need to sign more guys that are honest and will admit they aren't trying.2 points

1. But they brought in leadership. That's always a good thing. How could it suck massive balls when there was leadership? That's the benefit of this signing, right? Leadership. Why else would it keep getting mentioned? It's always a positive. They brought in leadership and 2024 was the successful result. 2. What does that matter?2 points
-
No, the single biggest lesson from 2024 is teams completely devoid of talent and lacking a serious manger will suck massive balls. Also, what is it you do for a living?2 points

An .823 OPS in Charlotte is simply not that impressive to me. For a #1 prospect in the big leagues? Dude struck out 102 times in 309 at bats. That's just not great at AAA, that would be among the worst K-rates in the leagues in the big leagues. I'd like to see him actually dominate AAA offensively at least for a month, and I'd like to see him showing signs of controlling that K-rate at least a little. What was his problem in 2018? It was his approach and K-Rate, he was probably the only guy we've ever called up who was too patient, guys could throw him strikes and he still didn't swing.2 points

Are you actually arguing that leadership isn’t a thing? I guess I don’t get what your crusade is even about. This is like a $2.5M signing for a guy who put up about 1 fWAR in a part-time role. The leadership he provides is a bonus. Having a couple veterans around a young team is a normally a good thing. Blaming the past players for not being able to overcome the incompetency of a sleepy Tony La Russa and a weak Pedro Grifol is absolutely ridiculous. If you prefer a different OF option I am 100% open to that conversation, but that’s a completely different debate.2 points

In 80 AAA games his call up year he slashed .282 / .377 / .823 and was 22 years old. What more did they need to see from him down there?2 points

You forgot about the GM doing the trading. It bodes hell for Sox fans2 points

Tauchman actually looks like a decent leadoff option. Hopefully he has a best career half of baseball and some injuries on other teams lead to him getting traded for something decent. Or packaged with a reliever. Whatever.2 points

Watching Getz flounder in these interviews almost makes me miss Hahn’s confident lawyer speak…almost2 points

Slater isn’t blocking anyone though, he’s a platoon bat and all our AAAA OFs are lefties. Tauchman could be blocking someone, but the offseason isn’t over yet. Also, it’s not like these would be untradable. We literally were able to turn Robbie Grossman into a useful relief prospect. FWIW, Tauchman put up the most fWAR last year of any positional guy currently on the roster. He’s a very solid role player and will be dirt cheap, so he won’t be hard to move if need be.2 points
-
Who is he blocking? Dominic Fletcher who you spent all of last year saying was absolutely awful and they traded for the wrong guy? There is obviously something going on with Colas that stretches back years at this point. Deloach is just fodder.2 points
-
Then play your likely AAAA players in RF instead of blocking them to maybe acquire more AAAA and 40 man fodder later.2 points
-
JFC dude, do you make everything about race? Like, where did I ever mention anything about Tauchman being white? He’s a veteran…full stop. He appears to be a fairly professional dude with no major red flags. He’s a disciplined hitter who makes good swing decisions. He doesn’t have to be Barrack Obama to lead by example and provide a positive influence on the younger players. Also, you keep bringing up the 2023 White Sox, a team that literally imploded because of poor chemistry and underperformance under an incredibly weak first year manager. Guess who they lost the offseason before? Jose Abreu, a great clubhouse presence and role model to the younger guys. You may think these guys are all robots, but having good veteran leadership does matter. It’s absolutely wild to me that you think otherwise and are race baiting on top of it.2 points

If that was an actual quote and not something you just made up, then yes, we should definitely be pointing and laughing.2 points
-
Dude, you’re off your rocker. Perhaps you’re extra bitter lately because the Cowboys suck.2 points
-
Yeah, I don’t think last year went off the rails because we brought in too much veteran leadership. But if your theoretical plan for 2025 is to have a roster with basically no veterans, then I find that to be quite the take.2 points
-
Colas has no future with this team. Been obvious for awhile that they don’t like him. Fletcher will get plenty of starts with Robert getting moved. Deloach is AAA depth, when someone inevitably gets hurt. Nothing wrong with that.2 points
-
DH is open since Sheets is thankfully gone. And for sure one of Robert or Benintendi is getting moved. I'd assume Robert. I'm not going to be overly upset at this move. Good defense and will work an at bat every time he is up, something this team desperately needs and wants to preach. Hopefully it's contagious.2 points

Interesting news. Nice find. So Mayer + Montgomery could be a legit proposal. But that also means so is Abreu, Casas, and Wong. Jerry apologizes for a record setting season of losses. Breslow apologizes for a .500 season. A .500 season would be a success to Jerry. There’s your difference between losers and winners.2 points
-
Exactly. I’m sure he will be more expensive than the duo that Getz signed but pass on Slater and Tauchman and sign Hays, a guy who is still somewhat young, could have a bounceback season, and could be traded for something of value. Hays is a flip candidate. These guys are veteran fodder.2 points

What's a GM supposed to do? I mean, he had a pretty terrible minor league development guy... himself2 points

34 years old. I’m sure his best year is ahead of him. I’d rather play the younger outfielder bums that Getz acquired last year and Colas. Being a Sox fan is depressing…2 points
