I would say I’m satisfied…not over or underwhelmed. It’s nice not having to worry about Crochet’s elbow exploding16 points

Disappointed they didn't include Benintendi though, the sox saving money was a big issue for me.13 points

At this time last year, Crochet had zero value. The Sox did something right.9 points

For what it is worth I just got off the phone with a member of the organization. This person, who I trust, was directly speaking with the scouts who were involved in the deal. According to the scout the Sox "did well" in the trade and acquired two guys they think will be good hitters. As far as the catching situation they like Lee's defense but his bat is still a concern. Possibly he'll be moved to another position or included in a trade. Person also thinks Robert will be traded.8 points

If you're on the side that this move wasn't a good trade by Getz.........I'm not sure what to tell you, at this point. Maybe you enjoy being contrary for the sake of it? Getz got great return for Crochet.8 points

I am still digesting this trade. Of Boston's top four prospects for the White Sox, Teel is the worst fit. Catching prospects are really difficult to hit and get value on, plus the fit with Quero seems awkward. Montgomery has pop and a big arm, but is coming off an ankle injury and is several years away from the majors. Lengthy development path ahead, with hit tool questions that need to be answered. Mediroth can hit and looks like a future utility player at the MLB level Gonzalez is most likely a reliever, but Sox can continue to develop him as a potential starter. I'm sure this was intentional, but it is noteworthy to me what the Red Sox did not trade. They kept their three up the middle top prospects (Anthony/Campbell/Mayer), as well as their toolsy teenage prospects who could be worth even more in a year (Arias, Cespedes, Bleis) This may have been the best that Getz was offered, but I really wish the Sox would have focused on up the middle talent as the return.7 points

Sox lost 120 games and look to be worse with no hope next few years. I’m shocked some are upset they now have two potential starting catchers.7 points

I guess looking at the whole package, it is a bit more than a expected, but a lot less than I had hoped for. I am really surprised no one else stepped up to beat this with Boston's top 3 off of the board.7 points

No, crochet created his value. You'd have to be delusional to believe otherwise.7 points

And we HAVE TO develop so much better than we did under the last team. Even if they might have a less than ideal attitude.6 points

I think the last 3 years justifies being pissy and complaining, but you do you 👍6 points

From the reports I've seen, Getz is asking for a 2023 return on Robert, not his results from 2024. If someone wants to pay 2023 prices, fine...but if they are only offering up packages that line up with his production from 2024...no reason to trade him right now.6 points
-
why would you trade Robert now unless you got a really good return. they've got control of him for 3 more years, and new coaches/hitting guru installed who might be able to turn him around (assuming they can keep him healthy) I would hang onto Robert for at least one more season before selling him for scraps6 points

Also, can we now officially mock the people that were convinced the Sox were going to dump Beni in this deal?6 points
-
That's not how value is assessed in baseball, or in anything in life. Catching prospects have about as high of a fail rate as exists. Good times.6 points

Mitchell's was a rupture of the posterior tibialis tendon. Much harder to repair than an ankle fracture.5 points

One other thing worth highlighting is that it’s now abundantly clear that Getz values guys who are disciplined and draw walks. Here is a list of guys he’s acquired in his major trades and their BB rates prior to that: Zavala: 19.4% in A (Y23) Vargas: 19.9% in AAA Perez: 13.7% in A Albertus: 18.9% in CPX Teel: 16.3% in AAA Montgomery: 15.2% in College Meidroth: 18.8% in AAA5 points

nice deal. i’m pleasantly surprised. not at all worried about adding teel with quero already in the system. just accumulate high-value assets and sort it out later.5 points

Teel and Montgomery is a good return, IMO. That's 2 Top 100 bats and Teel should be a longtime above avg LH catcher that will not just stick but be pretty good at that spot and can probably hit at the league average which is very good for a C. Montgomery will be a very good RF with a cannon arm and a savage LH bat as a switch hitter with very good power from the left side in particular. Good job Getz...you gotta give him his due.5 points

f*** no. He needs to make about a gazillion more good moves before we're winning more than 80 games in 2026.5 points

Will Benny the Bull greet Sasaki at O’Hare Airport? Will the Sox have Sasaki’s name and jersey number displayed on all the video boards at GRate? Gotta break out all the stops…4 points

That's never in question. The only question is if it will ever be cool.4 points

I think the distinction is he is saying its too early to say we lost the trade as if it were fact. To support that claim, he says he personally believes they won. If a reasonable person can argue they won the trade, its not a fact that the sox lost the trade.4 points

Sort of ironic it's the Red Sox again, as Crochet and Sale have a lot of similarities. We should all be rooting for Crochet, hope he thrives.4 points

Ah yes a LHP in his prime traded to the Red Sox for lottery tickets. What can possibly go wrong? 😂 Best of luck to Crochet. Like Sale, I love Reinsdorf lead organization trading away HOF projected talents because we can't either afford them or build around them to win.4 points

So Sox system now has 6 T100 guys? With a deep return like this one let’s see if Getz can flip Robert for 1 more. I realize 3 of the current 6 are likely to graduate in 2025 but the #10 pick in July plus a top 3 pick in 2026 should replenish the system nicely. Finally starting to see the early stages of the next young core. C/1b - Teel and Quero 2b - Meidroth / Baldwin SS - Montgomery 3b - Ramos / Vargas OF - Montgomery / Wolkow P - Schultz / Smith / Thorpe / Cannon / Iriarte It’s a start…Now flip Robert for Justin Crawford and we call it an offseason. Then grab Summerhill in the 2025 draft and Emerson in the 2026 draft.4 points

Development, development, development. I will not get excited about any "prospect haul" ever again as long as Reinsdorf and the people he puts in charge run this team. We had a top 10 prospect in Montgomery at this time last year, he flamed out bad in AAA. Now we're suppose to expect to take both Teel and Braden (from a well ran organization) and finish up their development portion? Sorry, not excited.4 points

This is like the anti-Hahn trade return where the third and fourth pieces are actually good and not pretty much throwaways, as in the Sale and Quintana deals.4 points

Yeah, Teel is a fantastic prospect, but don’t love the fit with Quero. That being said, we needed to get the best package of positional talent possible for Crochet and this is a surprisingly really good deal. Montgomery was essential as the #2 piece given how their system stacks up and our desperate need for OF talent. The last two pieces are legitimate prospects who have a chance of being real contributors and possibly very soon. I hate to say it, but Getz appears to have delivered here.4 points

Chris Getz played this about as well as possible. Not sure he was getting anything close to this package at the trade deadline.4 points

Wasn’t super enthused by Teel as the headliner, but the rest of the return is fantastic.4 points

No, the Sox turned him into a starter and created his value. Crochet hadn't started in 6 years.4 points
