What about the jobs lost in Bridgeport. The jobs thing has always been a farce. They are creating very few new jobs. Just transferring from one location to another. There are literally over 100 companies in Chicago alone that employ more people and create more revenue than the White Sox. Shouldn’t they be entitled to new rent free offices built by the state? Enough with JR. There was a question on the ballots in one of the wards this past election asking about using public funds for a Bears stadium. The voters gave it an overwhelming no. And that’s the Bears, far more popular than the White Sox, and they would actually contribute $2 billion. Politicians going against their constituents wishes aren’t politicians much longer. JR and the McCaskeys are going to have to find another way.3 points

MLB_scoops has been proven to be...shoddy...at best. I'm pretty sure lower than the foodies. So my guess is this is mega engagement bait. I mean, look at the comments.2 points

A willingness to spend is a lot more valuable in baseball. They've also put a ton of their OWN money towards renovating the arena.2 points

I believe you Greg . You're a good Catholic kid raised to respect people unlike the boomer giving you s%*# because he feels superior to you and basically loves to pick on the unpopular kids even as a grown man still acting like a bully on a fan forum.2 points

Now…if we could just flip Robert for say a good young catcher prospect, things could really start to look up around here.2 points

Which is why the ballpark village concept would appeal to Jerry.2 points

these projects where private business gets public money always tout the jobs. the short term construction jobs plus the "permanent" jobs after the fact. yes, sox park has more seasonal day of game staff than full time posts, but 1000 or more people working is still better than none. in the case of the 78 proposal, we're also looking at the halo effect of related business on the site providing jobs as well.2 points

Thought this might be of some interest. Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell was on the George Plaster radio show. He was asked about the entire MLB expansion/relocation issues with the city. The interview ran about 15 minutes. O'Connell specifically said Nashville (direct quote) "doesn't have the ingredients" for any public funded sports teams be it MLB, the WNBA or the women's professional soccer league because of all the public money already invested in the building of the Titans new stadium. He also said (direct quote) "it would be difficult to imagine" any public funding for that.1 point

The point is there won't be a Stewart purchase because the team isn't actually for sale. The earlier rumors of JR being open to selling and then floating Stewart were literally just leverage plays. And if you still want some hope as a Sox fan, the Ishbias might be using JR's own move on him. It is pretty widely known that potential owners often float their name for other teams as both a signal and a kind of trial run at the process before they actually buy a team. This could be the Ishbias basically telling JR that they are serious about owning a team soon and if he doesn't decide to make a move, then they will take themselves out of the running, which also gives whoever the next owner is less competition, and thus, JR a likely lower payout.1 point

Everyone knows that the Dodgers and Red Sox are unable to spend money cause of this.1 point

I'm sure he has. My guess again from what I've heard, is his family will sell the club when JR has passed on. Time will tell what eventually happens. From what I was told twice Andrew Berlin made offers to buy the club after the 2008 season and supposedly some of the minority owners were urging JR to sell, but he refused.1 point

I prefer a zillionaire that doesn't need to organize a group. Someone who looks at the cap as something to be aware of but isn't paralyzed by it.1 point

I don’t know that he’s a good backup catcher. Right now he’s a replacement level player. That has some use, but he has work to do before I’d call him good.1 point
-
I don't know anything about these four players, but all I've heard is that this is a good trade. Also, I think Getz is doing the best he can under the circumstances. But the fact remains this is a last place team and will remain so for a while.1 point

God I hate Jerry so much. Can’t wait until we end up with a Stewart led ownership group somehow.1 point

Weird, cuz Elias already spent almost $60 million on two bats that weren’t exactly a necessity, when starting pitching is for the Orioles. $60 million isn’t going to get an ace but it could have already bought a decent starter.1 point

Also not just this…if he were to sell the team, a large chunk of the funds coming from the new owners who want to own their stadium and surrounding land for business development is also expected. In that case, helping procure land and transit access can be something that a city kicks in.1 point
-
I think funds would come from the state and not the city, right? I think if the mayor said something like, “yes, we’re ready to pony up $1bil in taxpayer funds” it probably wouldn’t go well during his next election campaign. also, it’s a southern state, you already know they’re going to take money out of ‘Temporary Assistance for Needy Families’ to build it and somehow Steve Air McNair will be involved.1 point

That Sunday Tribune Parade Magazine was the same Sunday of the infamous Dick Allen Chili Dog HR off Sparky Lyle pinch hitting in the 2nd game of a doubleheader against the Yankees. It was Bill Melton Bat day and back then you got full sized bats and there were 52,000 people in old Comiskey Park1 point

Quero is a tiny dude for a catcher and already had a back injury. Not getting Teel in the deal because of Quero’s existence would have been foolish. The Sox are so far away from trying to compete, they just need to keep stockpiling legit major leaguers1 point

So Sox system now has 6 T100 guys? With a deep return like this one let’s see if Getz can flip Robert for 1 more. I realize 3 of the current 6 are likely to graduate in 2025 but the #10 pick in July plus a top 3 pick in 2026 should replenish the system nicely. Finally starting to see the early stages of the next young core. C/1b - Teel and Quero 2b - Meidroth / Baldwin SS - Montgomery 3b - Ramos / Vargas OF - Montgomery / Wolkow P - Schultz / Smith / Thorpe / Cannon / Iriarte It’s a start…Now flip Robert for Justin Crawford and we call it an offseason. Then grab Summerhill in the 2025 draft and Emerson in the 2026 draft.1 point

Yet one of the biggest and most loyal fanbases in the world.1 point

Maybe the Sox would have a deeper fan base if the actually tried to build one. And Cub fans? They're idiots.1 point
-
This has never been about drawing fans when winning. We all know Sox fans are a bandwagon lot who show up for blue skies. Jerry is looking north at Wrigley for a place whose game day experiences are so powerful that people don't just show up when times are good, but still show up when things are bad.1 point

What Dick Allen said and then some. Right now, all JR cares about is a new stadium and his new TV network. Building a winning team? Not so much. And all this nonsense about "being open to selling"? That was nothing but crap. When will the team be a contender? No one knows and that includes the White Sox. Fans are being scammed as always. What a joke.1 point

There’s a fire station in Englewood currently without a ladder truck and ambulance because the city can’t afford to fix them. They just cancelled two consecutive police academy classes because they literally can’t afford to run them. The state of Illinois is a single notch above junk status on its debt rating. But yeah…let’s totally give the worst team in MLB history with a billionaire owner a bunch of public funds to build a new stadium and get richer even though he completely ripped us off on the last one. How exactly do you think both the City and State got into this situation?1 point
-
Not trying to be political, but I think your demographic breakdown for any group of people in Chicago are not accurate. Democrats have run Chicago for decades.1 point

I'm thinking it's either a stadium ploy (considering his past history) or a public notice for the "serious" bidders to come calling.1 point

If the Stewart group does end up buying the Sox why would they move them to Nashville? Leaving Chicago would be a huge mistake .1 point
-
Wow go figure, the people who demanded he sell might get what they want. Hope you're all happy!1 point

At this point it would not be hard for me to switch allegiances to the cubs if the sox left. They have just done everything possible to ruin baseball, to the point that the only game I'd like to go to next year in that stadium is a harlem globetrotters game basically. The only redeeming thing JR could do at this point is to have a public funeral so I could piss on his casket.1 point

I hope they change their name. No Nashville White Sox b.s. Call em the Nashville Musicians.1 point

I’m done with baseball if the Sox move. This sucks all around1 point
-
This 1000 percent will be the case. I guess in this situation if they were to truly move to Nashville under the exact same type of owner as Jerry I would be okay with it if someone with a fresh idea to spend money started a new franchise here. The whole Dave Stewart / TLR conneftion has me wanting to puke.1 point
-
This group also tried buying the Rays and Marlins. They failed both times because they don't have the money and no billionaire backer. Almost seems like a scam, but one Jerry can use for leverage I guess.1 point
-
Tony Larussa is the glue for this. The same Dave Stewart that allowed TLR to hire a vet to be their analytics guy and traded Shelby Miller for Dansby Swanson? That guy. Stewart would move this franchise to Nashville in a heartbeat. Tony is basically Thanos.1 point
-
It can be good: The Dodgers are a group-owned organization and they drastically turned things around post-McCourts. It's just that Dave Stewart would be catastrophic.1 point
-
If he sells to a guy intending to move it to Nashville, well that would not be ideal1 point
