This is the worst move Getz has made, he's awful, everything is terrible.7 points
-
What a silly trade for a massive market team. You get junk, just to shed a contract (that's not terrible), even though youre 'going for it' this year.6 points
-
Agreed. It's very weird. Results will ultimately be what matters but he's done a pretty solid job behind the scenes. Getz has made multiple really promising hires and has made a real effort to change the way things have been. Smart people have signed up to come here due to whatever his plan is. They have what looks to be a top 5 farm system and they were around 20 at this time last year. Getz isn't the hire that I would've made but saying he's in over his head right now just isn't an accurate statement. If that makes me a "Getz Lover" then I'll wear it I guess.6 points

Quero has barely played in AAA and Teel has only played 28 games in AAA and was in rookie ball in 2023, so I hope not. Zero reason to rush these guys for the opening day roster.5 points

Sure, but “we’ll believe it when we see it” and “everything they do is bound to fail” are two completely different sentiments. Every single Sox fan should be saying “I’ll believe it when I see it.” That’s the exact skepticism that’s warranted with this dumb ass organization. But assuming everything they do will fail is not even skepticism, that’s just nihilism, which, why even bother at that point.5 points

Jesus Christ you guys are at it in this thread too? Just bang each other already…this will they/wont they stuff is getting annoying.4 points

Lucas Giolito FIP timeline: Pre Katz: 2018: 32 starts | 5.56 FIP Post Katz: Pre Ban: 54 starts | 3.43 FIP Post Ban: 68 starts | 4.02 FIP To suggest all of Giolito’s improvement since 2018 was entirely driven by spider tack is simply untrue and any White Sox who actually watched him pitch and saw the mechanical and repertoire changes over time would know that.4 points

Thaiss had a 100 wRC+ vs RHP last year and he’s really familiar with the coaching staff. It’s fine. Quero and Teel both need more time in AAA4 points

There's really no excuse. My guess is they'd say they couldn't trade it. Even if they were to say that they reallocated the money to something else (employees, technology, etc), they could still do that and trade the $$. If they trade $740K in international space, no money actually changes hands. You're literally just giving someone else the right to spend $740K more of their own money. It's pretty frustrating though.4 points

I hope not. Waiting at least until May if not June to call one of them up.3 points

I'm trying to spot any inaccuracies with the people you quoted, and can't seem to find any. When have the Sox spoken to a top tier free agent and converted? Albert Belle? They lost the most games in MLB history last season, the opinion on Jerry is subjective (I guess) and given the amount of dollars needed for Sasaki, and again being the worst team in MLB history last year, I don't see the lie in "aren't a desirable location" Really not a lot of analysis needed. The Sox are 102-222 in the last two years, and the o/u for wins in 2025 has to be like 55? I could go on...but here is the other point. If the Sox were to sign Sasaki, everyone here would be ecstatic and for good reason. They are adding high end talent and investing serious resources in the product on the field. I, along with most others, would happily eat crow. Would love to. But based on what historical data tells me, I'm not saving room in my stomach for a crow burger in the near future.3 points

Stop it. I would like to think you're smarter than that. "There's not much point in being a fan if we think everything they do is bound to fail." How do you think fans got there? This organization started rebuilding in 2016, after having below .500 seasons in 2015, 2014, and 2013 when they were "trying to win" and the results of that rebuild netted the Sox 2 playoff victories. They now are on their next rebuild, coming off the worst season in MLB history. But White Sox fans saying "We'll believe it when we see it" are the weird ones? Are you out of your fucking mind?3 points

This is why it was kind of weird that the Sox were so insistent on keeping Chuckie Robinson on the roster all last year. It really isn’t that difficult to obtain a no bat backup catcher.2 points

Thaiss has no options remaining, so he makes the team out of spring training, or he takes a walk through waivers.2 points

Yeah, when somebody calls me a dunce and other names for making note that the Sox are being mentioned as a team "in" on Sasaki, it's not "crying" to push back. When somebody regularly mocks a single comment made back in spring training to end every convo, it's not "crying" to find a comment of his and push back with it. If you don't like commenters pushing back on rude behavior, I'm not sure why you're a mod and subject yourself to all this "crying" on a daily basis.2 points

Cubs are just as disgraceful as the Sox from a team running standpoint. They should be battling with the big boys and they are pulling this type of stuff?2 points

Hes still alive. He doesn't have to know about Oscar Robertson, but he was the one that brought him up 3 times in an effort to know history. You want to mention it on the telecast, be a professional and get it right.2 points

Yeah, Imanaga's stuff played up because his fastball is really deceptive and he has good command. He was also good at making adjustments once teams started catching on. Maybe Sugano's offspeed plays up the same way, but I doubt it. If this is the best pitching acquisition the Orioles make they're in trouble.2 points

I know we are seeing the white washing of the 2024 season into they knew this was happening all along, but if you actually watched the moves made in real time, and then the panic that took over when the Sox were a couple of months into a 40 win pace, this was not on purpose. I don't care what we are told, you don't make the moves the Sox made for, and in, the 2024 season if you know you are going to lose 100+ games, let alone 121.2 points

Who has said he's done a great job? Who's getting piled on? SS2K and West Eddy just have the exact same conversation every single day and nobody wins. It just plays out like Grumpy Old Men.2 points

I don't think anybody has blind faith in Getz. The reality is that he's the GM and nothing is going to change that. Some of us would rather support him and hope he does well rather than spend all our time being negative.2 points

It is Step 1 towards changing the narrative, but eventually they have to be serious and convert.2 points

That’s hyperbole. However, unsurprisingly, Julks sucks and is a DFA candidate. I’m surprised he’s even still on the roster.2 points
-
Not sure why you engage with the same 5 posters for over a year over the same argument... No minds are being changed. They blame Getz everything. This is the same group that thought the Corey Julks trade was the end of the world and a fireable offense because they gave away Luis Rodriguez. We are about a page and a half from you and SS2K doing the whole “Getz should have known Moncada, Robert, and Eloy would be hurt within the first month” back and forth I have read 5,000 times.2 points

Even Bennetti's biggest haters have to admit he actually knew, well, words.2 points

The public flaming and ridicule they've been receiving is well earned and deserved (which I said). That doesn't mean they still shouldn't try to sign him, regardless of how unlikely it is. My point was they're going to be dragged either way, for which they only have themselves to blame.1 point
-
They're damned if they do and damned if they don't with Roki. They'd get flamed for not even bothering to try and sign him, but no one really expects him to choose the Sox anyways so they're (understandably) the butt of jokes because they're making a pitch.1 point

When all is said and done this will simply be another opportunity for the Sox organization to say, "we had a seat at the table...we tried..." without any real chance to succeed.1 point

If he wanted that, why come to the US in the first place? And even if he did want it, there are plenty of lower pressure markets than Chicago, including many who can offer things like more money, a better team, recent integration and infrastructure for Japanese players, etc. Pretty much any selling point you can give for the White Sox, multiple other teams will easily beat.1 point
-
It's honestly incredible how delusional you are. People crack the joke a lot on this board, but dead serious you may be Chris Getz.1 point
-
Yes it was mentioned by Chris Getz that the Sox have a seat at the table to pitch Sasaki, then someone afterwards took it a step further. But let's take a step back and look at this objectively. 1. The Sox history in Japan is dormant for an entire generation. We have no scouts there, and no real history of success in the far East compared to their peers. 2. The Sox international pool is in the smaller end of the pools. While the Sox may well have a large amount of money left over because they are one of the worst spending team internationally, but there already talks of teams revoking signings to be able to offer Sasaki more money than the Sox ever could. 3. 121 losses. 4. The Sox are very probably to be into Sasakis arbitration years before they hit .500 again. Even if Chris Getz somehow turns the Titanic around, we are probably now into his last year or two of control when this could be a legitimate playoff operation again. That means choosing between risking losing him for nothing or trading him to a place he didn't choose to be in. Sasaki is smart enough to know this timeline. 5. Chicago is in the middle of the country and doesn't have a particularly big Japanese population, especially when compared to all of the West Coast. Even when Iguchi was here, there really was no surge of fan base from the community. 6. The West Coast cities are 3-5 hours closer to Japan. 7. Because Sasaki has to go through the six years of control, his primary source of income will be endorsements. Between the horrible ratings the Sox have, their complete lack of significant carriage agreements on cable, and the size of the Japanese community as a proportion of the metro population, he would be looking at significantly more money in a lot of other markets. 8. Many of the other teams will be in the playoffs this year. Others are going to be in the playoff race. A 1st round playoff share would be a huge bump for a guy making league minimum. A World Series championship would about double his salary. 9. Besides a potential playoff share, a playoff appearance also means more national exposure, further opening up more endorsement chances. That's not happening in Chicago. 10. The Sox have a league wide reputation on a lack of resources for players. Despite the noise about that changes, would someone be willing to bet their formative years and the chance at a powerball sized contract on it when you KNOW other teams already have done it. 11. The Sox have a brand new manager, GM, scouts, analytics crew and pretty much every thing else, except a couple of positions. 12. Between the Sox stadium fight, and rumors of ownership changes happening, and an owner pushing 90, the team that is selling Sasaki probably won't be the one who will be around to talk about his first big contract. Even if the are, the Sox have never paid anyone more than $75 million. Do you want to sign somewhere that almost certainly not offer you a mega contact when free agency approaches, or be hoping for a new ownership group who might? Why wouldn't you just go to someone who you know will be willing to pay you when time? I am probably forgetting some things, but this is a good start.1 point

I’ll bet my left nut that he’s not signing with our loser organization.1 point
