This board is getting worse than Congress with its extremist views. Either you must hate everything the org does no matter how trivial in order to get the rage out of your system or you must spin everything that Getz does in a favorable light regardless if it has sound backing to it to help retain some level of hope. This board used to have great discussion and now it’s just non-stop whining & spinning by the same group of posters 24/7. Unfortunately, those of us who are angry AF at the organization but still want to give Getz a chance (even if 100% undeserved) can’t have good honest debates on moves as the loudest posters disrupt everything with their relentless pessimism or optimism.7 points

I know everyone has their favorites but the Lux fascination at this point in his career is bizarre to me.5 points

From the Chris Getz hatred, we all know that the Assistant to Player Development is the true power center of this organization. Hell, Chris Getz ran the White Sox from that roll with the Royals. Nevin now has more power than Reinsdorf.5 points

Wait a minute, KW was in charge of the minors before he took over as GM. He was part of that problem, was he not? sounds so familiar I can’t put my finger on it4 points
-
I know he got that wrap here - but he has been in game forever and was a very smart catcher. I’ve only heard real good things about him through my Fullerton connections.4 points

Hiring certainly isn't impactful but it'll never stop being concerning that LaRussa still has his teeth sunk in to this org and is clearly guiding some choices.4 points

David Keller has the same innocuous title that Marco Paddy had but my interpretation is that he’s essentially the international director and Louis Silverio is running the academy. This hire for a coordinator is basically the #2 to Keller. They will coordinate between the area scouts and staff in the DR up to Keller and the front office. It’s a big job, but a necessary one.3 points

Yes, which is why we have some time before AI takes over the world.3 points

I am pissed off too…everyone should be. And I just called out the posters who try to justify every past & present Getz action. Clearly he was not qualified for the GM job and I will argue that until the end of time. And I have been very critical of his trades since becoming GM…the track record is very bad so far. All that being said, he inherited an organization that is broken to its core and that will take time to fix. He has made some interesting outside hires in several key positions. He is making major investments in foundational areas like pro scouting, international scouting, player development, & analytics. Whether those moves will untimely work out remains to be seen and people have a right to be skeptical…I myself am skeptical. But once we get to the point of saying that nothing will ever work out because we are the White Sox we eliminate any chance of actual discussion and that is my major beef.3 points

This team has been in a downward spiral since Tony LaRussa took over. They are literally the worst team in baseball and continue to make dumbass moves. The majority of everyone is pissed off, and rightfully so. There is not really much positive to discuss here. I miss the days when the White Sox just won 80ish games every year and we at least had hope they would put it together next season. What we have now, f*** that man.3 points

Oh, James thinks something this front office did is great? I'm shocked, SHOCKED I tell you...3 points

You're right, having a dude with temper issues developing impressionable young players sounds like a good idea.3 points

He is a special assistant in player development. I guess it has been a few days so some of you need something to be angry about.3 points

Ah, we're still the same stupid organization.3 points

I would start B. Monty in K. Napolis, and let him earn his way up to B. Ham by the end of 2025. A June arrival in 2026 would work perfectly for B. Monty. A June arrival in 2025 would work for C. Monty.2 points

I did leave Chicago because of this team. That’s a true statement. I fully get the anger of being a White Sox fan. I am guilty of it as much as anyone. But I also like discussing the White Sox and looking for reasons to believe things will get better as long as we’re being objective. And I have no issue with anyone disagreeing with moves as long as they state reasons that aren’t simply “because the White Sox suck”. Your view on Nevin was completely warranted. But there handful of posters who simply s%*# on everything and a couple others who just do drive-buys and don’t really add anything to the discussion. That’s as bad as the non-stop Getz excuse making. I 100% get being skeptical of everything. Until Jerry dies, we are a competitive disadvantage and will have to get lucky to ever win a championship. And Getz may very well be the total boob we all thought he was when first hired. But that doesn’t mean things still can’t get better in the near-term. The amount of low hanging fruit throughout the org is vast and even a subpar GM hire can make significant improvements by bringing in smart people from the outside. Just go to the over / under thread and see some of the takes there. Losing 121 games takes both a lack of talent and being unlucky. Getz does not deserve a free pass for this year’s s%*# show of a team, but it’s ok to acknowledge that the team will likely be better next year without doing all that much. Unfortunately, that level of discussion & debate gets completely lost in the wake of all the hate and spin from both sides.2 points

And sorry @Chicago White Sox, you've been a good poster for years here, but let's be 100: You once got so fed up with this team that you declared you were leaving Chicago for Nashville due to this team. Like, why should the anti-Getz Caucus (if we're truly going this route) support trading a young, live-arm for a 32-year-old carpenter? Hiring a guy toxic ex-manager to be part of the organization? Slashing the payroll to Fischerian levels? Should we be OK with Reinsdorf playing footsie with Dave Stewart and Nashville while the Ishbia brothers were apparently making offers? Like, what has the team done to deserve any benefit of the doubt?2 points

I agree. True discussions have left.2 points

Also amusing is the guy getting mad at the guy getting mad. Messageboard inception!2 points

Yet here you are just as confidently talking about people who have opinions different than yours.2 points

I love when random message board guys sitting at their work laptops get bent out of shape about a hire like this. As if they know anything about the role he's hired for or his qualifications. I wish I was so confident about s%*# I don't know about like some of you. Truly remarkable skill.2 points

Seems like a logical fallacy. Nevin isn’t the manager nor is he Tony la Russa. Every Sox player who played for him recently and speaks about him seems to admire him, read what Tim Anderson said about him for example. I’m not sure why you’re offended on the players’ behalf and treating them like children. I’m not sure what I’m “flexing” by saying that sometimes athletes get yelled at by their coaches and it isn’t a big deal. I’m a total wimp, I don’t raise my voice, I’m not “flexing”, but I am suggesting it works to motivate and if pro athletes are too sensitive, go work at Starbucks or whatever else they’re qualified to do. One can also clearly see the failure of past Sox staff to hold players accountable for their play and behavior. The previous hitting coach proudly said “the players do their own thing and we don’t interfere unless they ask”, like how well did that work? I also think posters are making up the temper thing. What do you know? Because he gets in umpires’ faces and scolded his team on camera once? This thread is bizarre.2 points
-
Yeah, this went so well with Tony, let's do it again! Oh no wait, everything is different and better now! The idea that people are failing because they don't yelled at enough is such a crazy flex that I just keep waiting for to die and go away.2 points

I mean... it probably is a good idea lol. Certainly better than the hippie "do whatever you want, we don't care, have a nap" no accountability attitude the organization been had. How impressionable is a 22-year-old gonna be, are we worried Colson's gonna grow up and be like his daddy, Phil Nevin? Or that they'll crack if someone raises their voice at them? I'm nto sure why people are so up in arms about hiring a competent person to do a job they are probably overqualified for.2 points

So does he report into Janish then? And aren’t amateur scouting and player development separate functions? I guess I’m guess I’m confused by his involvement in both unless he’s actually an Assistant GM.2 points

I read about a month ago or so that the Fire might be joining in with plans for a soccer stadium at the 78 along with a Sox ballpark. So, this news isn't totally new. IIRC, with U of I pulling out of the site and moving their research center to the tech center being developed at the old US Steel South Shore site, the developer has said that there is now room for a soccer stadium at the site along with the other things they already have planned for there.2 points

He was pretty good in 2022. I think the hamstring injuries ruined him more than anything.2 points

If any non-Dodgers team could fix a dude, it's Tampa Bay. Also, their temporary field dimensions: Left Field – 318 ft (97 m) Left-Center – 399 ft (122 m) Center Field – 408 ft (124 m) Right-Center – 385 ft (117 m) Right Field – 314 ft2 points

i dont know that we have to put the chances THAT high. we just saw something like this where we acquired Middleton cheap and built him up to then be worth Juan Carela, who is a nice starter prospect that is at least good enough to have had to protect in rule V draft2 points

So was Ian Cunningham. How insane is it that the two football brains running this thing are two former OL's, and they missed the mark SO badly on that specific position?2 points
-
There’s a 99.9% chance this turns into a nothing for nothing trade.2 points
-
Yeah, this is why it's so weird for me. From a process perspective, this trade makes sense if the teams are reversed. Unless the red sox just don't think he's a mlb reliever they can rely on. The White Sox shouldn't be trading any lotto tickets. To those saying they expect to get more for him than they gave. That makes literally zero sense to me. One of his big issues is he's old. He's not getting any younger.2 points
-
They really want him to be the opening day SS. He was dealing with an off the field issue last season and he really impressed them with the way he grinded thru it then peformed in the AFL. They think he's ready to take off and I would agree.2 points

A couple other pro athletes have had growth spurts late. David Robinson comes to mind.1 point

Just being "more than a casual fan of the White Sox" drove the majority of us to booze/drugs as a coping mechanism, with or without the presence of a Booser in the bullpen. Well, there was Boof Bonser and Carlos Boozer and Cameron/Cayden Boozer, so why not this guy with the cool-sounding name and pretty incredible backstory???1 point

No just play him at Charlotte? Hes not being called up for defense.1 point

Many of these guys will flame out, but they also need opportunities before doing so. The issue isn’t that we can’t acquire better SP prospects, it’s that acquiring a 45 FV and pushing someone like Batista to a minor league bullpen doesn’t move the needle much.1 point

We have tons of cap space, a top 10 pick, and two good 2nd rounders. We should be able to materially improve both lines if Poles executes right. Not saying we will, but it should be doable.1 point

Discussion was had here a few weeks ago...but if they don't spend the entire offseason investing in the trenches, 2025 will look exactly like 2024. Football has evolved over the years, but at the core, the thing that has stayed the same is needing to be strong in three positions to win....QB, OL and DL. Can't go far without a QB, that's obvious, and I think the Bears have it. Having a good QB doesn't mean much (see 2024 Bears) if he's got 1.5 seconds to throw on a lot of plays. Run game doesn't work either. Things just don't work without it. And I don't care how much you invest, or how talented your CB's, S, LB core is...if you can't generate a sustained pass rush, any secondary is going to get cooked if the QB has 4 seconds to throw the ball. Don't think it's possible to totally fill both sides of the ball in one offseason, but it's all I would be focused on. Only way they'll win.1 point
-
Even if the over/under was 35.5 wins, I’m not sure they’d reach the over. This roster is drastically worse than last year.1 point
-
We failed last year completely. Offense. Defense. Pitching. Minor Leagues gave us nothing. We made terrible trades, and failed at churning the waiver wire. You don't lose 121 games because of a bad offense.1 point

Relievers are so volatile it wouldn’t shocked me if he pitched great and they dealt him.1 point

If throws the ball great for half a season, cash in on him in July.1 point

Booser throws 96. Maybe they see closer upside. Or at least lefty setup upside. If he's that, they can trade him for two Fajardos in July.1 point

Boston’s return is supposedly an unnamed minor league pitcher. Also, Robert Murray thinks he’s a funny guy…1 point
