And really, no love for the framing joke? He was a carpenter. I hope for at least one laugh. 😂3 points

This sounds like the precise KW/JR philosophy for 13 years...the farm system was typically for trading potential/possibility for established veterans the managers trusted more to play...at least for the most part. But that requires winning the majority of your trades, not just 20-30%.2 points

Why though? That should go to literally anyone else at this point. Even me. God knows I've been to more Sox games than Eloy has.2 points

Are you going to cryogenically freeze yourself for the next Sox playoff team?2 points

Jason has also called some NFL games for Fox during the baseball playoffs when some of their regular NFL guys were doing those games.1 point

He is the most energetic 73 year old on planet and is a total culture builder. If he was 5 years younger he would be about my top choice.1 point

For Carroll’s camp to leak out this information actually gives me a ton of optimism. He wouldn’t be willing to come out of retirement if he didn’t believe in Caleb and the possibility of quickly turning this mess around. This isn’t just some generic, “Pete Carroll wants to coach in 2025” statement open to every team. At 73 years old, he wouldn’t be here to oversee a rebuild. Depending on what his demands are, I’d be willing to put him right at the top alongside Johnson. Especially since his name carries the respect to have some part in roster construction. I know, I know, the Shane Waldron connection; and he’s a defensive minded coach who would have to find yet another OC for Caleb. But guys…..who are we to turn him down? He is a proven winner who created a winning culture over his 14 seasons. Are we going to be the team that overlooks Harbaugh and Carroll in back to back seasons?1 point

I discovered this site back in 2003 around the time Greasy and Bearsfan joined. I decided not to join because I was apprehensive and a serious introvert. But after the Jeremy Reed talk (he was my favorite prospect at the time) I grew some balls and joined right after New Years in early January 2004 under the name J.Reedfan8. I believe @knightnialso joined around the same time as me. It was ALOT different back then and I miss the old crew and days but I'm so happy Soxtalk has thrived for so long. Most of us were young teenagers or in our 20s back then. Now we're all old fucks, most are married, most have kids etc. Merry Christmas everyone!1 point

That cracked me up The really sad part of Hawk firing TLR was that Dave Duncan followed Tony to Oakland. Duncan turned into one of the best pitching coaches in baseball.1 point

Yeah but he's not considered one of the very top guys I have no idea. Cruz is the only reported signing. I'm sure they have more and we just don't know about them yet. This exactly.1 point

Not every move by another team is some incredibly calculated genius move. The Red Sox must have set themselves up incredibly well when they traded Mookie Betts, right?1 point

Jason Benetti reminds me a bit of voices like Nantz, Enberg and Al Michaels of the recent past that had the versatility to do at least three major sports. He's now got men's and women's major college basketball, college FB and baseball down pat. Meanwhile, we've got the Schiff Schtick1 point

what? like....what? have we been watching the same team? I'm glad you think he looks hot in the Sox uniform.1 point

Here are some Soxtalk legends: Fathom: (I envision him as a nice guy in real life; knows his stuff, used to get mad when we lost to Cubs, I think he played baseball longer than most on here). Caulfield: Same as Fathom. Seems like he'd be a nice guy in real life. Used to make interesting posts about China. He and Fathom seem like kind souls. Harry Chappas: Not only has ties to Brother Rice but has reasonable posts and also never gets mad on here. Seems like a nice guy as well and a proud southsider me thinks. WhiteSox2023 also has Br. Rice ties and seems to have his head on straight. He hasn't been around as long. Milkman Delivers: On the list of most likely to punch greg in the face if we met. I just don't think he likes me much. I could be wrong. Ron883: I think he is ok with greg. He's posted a long time, seems reasonable. I think we've disagreed on some players' value in the past. Texsox: Seems like a nice guy. I think we would agree on political stuff in real life. Mabe not. Those few come to mind right now. Peace on earth to all over the holiday season.1 point

My view is different. In fact, I'm upset the Sox didn't sign him to a minor league deal. The chances of Eloy making it are the same as say, Robert, who also has proven nothing. In another throwaway season coming up, why didn't we reacquire Eloy. He still looks good in a uniform so to speak and if he's gonna save his career with a breakout year, why not with the Sox. Risk/reward. We should have picked him up. Cmon. He'd be as good as anybody we currently have for the outfield. Beni, Robert and Eloy on paper "again" would be potentially a winning threesome. Potentially.1 point

The likelihood of hamstring injury recurrence increases following hamstring injury or surgery according to medical articles I have read. Assuming that is the case, a hitter needs a strong base to complete a powerful swing. Eloy hasn't had that in a long time. He is probably toast as far as being an MLB hitter. Those who repeat memes about players of color being inherently lazy, unmotivated, greedy, etc, are not well informed or are ill-informed, imo. I had the pleasure of meeting Eloy and thought he was a great kid. I wish him the best.1 point

Mariners went 20 years without a playoff appearance, while the Angels won a ring in that same span. M's ownership is cheap AF and continually makes cost cutting moves that make the team worse. Angels ownership at least spends money. They spend in the dumbest way possible, but they spend. Angel's fans at least got to watch two of the best players on the planet play every day while their FO tried to spend their way to winning. There are much worse positions to be in as a fan base. A's fans just had their team ripped away from them, and Sox fans suffered through the worst season in modern baseball history. Both of those trump never winning with Trout and Ohtani IMO.1 point

Because we're pretending that 2 weeks before the new signing period, the White Sox haven't hired anybody to scout people, which doesn't seem to be true.1 point

And then, that must mean that we all revere Hawk Harrelson as an elite baseball mind, since he fired TLR. TWTW!!1 point

I'll take a MLB ready player over a kid at the lowest rung of the ladder. If he's eating any innings in June we can pick up a AA arm for him. Plus now we have a pitcher that really understands framing.1 point

His opinion is I don't know anything and neither do you and that your conclusions lack any substance based on that lack of knowledge . He wishes he could have the confidence to believe he's as smart without knowledge as you think you are. You flex more than anyone here and constantly accuse others of it or resort to the old bad parenting /bully routine of aww did the big meanie hurt your feelings when you got nothing else .1 point

Not me. It gives me an opportunity to watch baseball and anybody but the White Sox. I guess for 2205 is #mark safe from watching White Sox baseball. With MLB online I could watch the players in the farm system.1 point

I said Jonathan Cannon, at one point, but yeah, why not deal from strength in a crazy pitching market?1 point

I’ll take some time to write it up or find what was previously written up next week once I get past some key work deadlines - as there is some cool history for those not aware. But site was founded by me and Molto - ran by a great team of admins (some have retired over the years) - and was a spinoff of SoxNet which was a news site that Molto and I ran before blogs were ever a thing. Soxtalk up after a bad deal where we joined a broader sports network and ultimately disagreed with network we joined and Soxtalk was a creative way out and it’s why this site will always and forever be independent and free. We have been around since 2000 in some way shape or form.1 point
