  1. His prize for being bad was Justin Verlander. The Sox get the 10th pick. Nice plan.

  2. Miller was the #10 prospect in baseball. Yet your other post said he was a bad draft pick. Your batting average this thread might get you a spot in the White Sox line up. All these terrible GMS, yet they never were able to accomplish what Getz was able to accomplish in year 1. 121.

  3. Ah yes, objective Stacey King. Right up there with Hawk as a truth teller.

  4. It's too early to assess. His lack of trade experience was evident with the Fedde/Kopech trade debacle. I still think he should have gotten more from the Dylan Cease deal as well. I was very encouraged from the Crochet deal. I think he executed that deal very nicely. He was patient and recieved a heck of a package. I agree with Jimmy. He needs to win a potential Luis Robert deal. The organization was set back so far when they lost out on getting any sort of value back from the old original core players: Anderson, Moncada and Eloy. I do like the organizational infastructure changes. I hope Getz can utilize those changes and begin developing talent from within. He needs a really strong draft performance in 2025 and 2026. If i had to guess, he will likely have a top 5 to choose from in 2026. I know it goes beyond the first round, as he also needs to hit on 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounders as well. This is where I hope the scouting department changes can be demonstrated. I think it will be fair to evaluate Getz after the 2026 season. At that point, we should know how strong the farm system is getting and will have a true understanding of the direction of this ball club. It sucks we have to wait another 2-3 years, but this organization was set so far back by the previous regime- this needed to be done. (sigh!)

  5. May possibly be the worst group of 26 on a opening day roster in Sox history to start a season.

  8. Careful, you're going to summon all the posters who are going to say the White Sox were never trying to win and the pencil pushers he has hired are going to change the world, you just wait for 3-4 years you'll see.

  9. The game against the bulls was literally Lebrons first game back from a 2 week injury break from a groin injury There is no doubt this team is playing better right now. But we have seen them play into the play in before, and lose to Atlanta and/or the Heat. Every time.

  11. Fletcher, Colas and DeLoach will be in the minors. Benintendi is being paid a ton and at least has a history of some value. Slater was positive WAR at the end of last year with Baltimore, and has a history of some value. Taylor and Jankowski are bench players. Robert should be fine. The only thing Moniak has going for him is his age. He'll either catch on somewhere in the minors, or bounce around being DFAed until he goes to Japan, Korea or Mexico.

  12. Moniak got released. I’d take over Jankowski.

  17. It’s like a curse to get free access to all the bad baseball we can stomach. At least when he first became owner, JR and Eddie E had the decency to hide many games on pay tv that most couldn’t access. That said, I downloaded it again today. Thanks T-Mobile.

  19. Makarewicz looked pretty good at Kanny last year, but he's really old for the level and I don't think he sticks at 3b. I wonder if he makes it to W-S or mans 1b at Kanny. Miller-Green is a great story but he's very old and did not hit. I may have a better path as a relief arm. I barely saw McCants play, but I doubt he's gonna get too many ABs considering who's in Kanny's OF. I see them having a bunch of significant prospects including Bonemer, Wolkow, Braden Montgomery, McLain, Mogollon, and Ronny Hernandez. They'll probably also get Arxy Hernandez. That team is gonna mash.

  20. The 1990 draft was also insane. Fernandez, Bob Wickman (2), James Baldwin (4), Ray Durham (5), and Jason Bere (36).

  24. I'd take Willis' contract for a bunch of guys who, while Miller became an awesome reliver a few years later, put up a combined 1.0 bWAR for the Marlins, if a 25 year old Miguel Cabrera was included.

  25. It seems that Moniak figured out his own weaknesses, fixed it, then the league adjusted back to him. Our guys aren't even that far on their own individual pro journeys.

  28. Exactly. Ron Washington has him playing 2B and CF. I'm like, you're ruining this guy's career by not putting him behind the plate. Such a shame.

  29. Yeah this is probably the biggest difference between this hot streak and his previous hot streaks. We've seen Coby get hot and score like this before, but that's really all it was before. He'd get on a good shooting streak from 3 and put together a string of really good games. But then he'd fall back to being mediocre or even bad when the shots weren't falling. If he can get to the line more and become less reliant on 3 points shooing he'd become a far more consistent scorer.

  30. I don't know who these "most" are that you're referring to because I have not seen that opinion. But to answer your question, yes, Getz is to blame for last year. As is JR. As is Hahn. As is Grifol etc. It's a long list. I don't understand the obsession with trying to choose a single person to assign blame to.

  31. I mean, I just outlined this team had 8 to 10 games of bad luck and also had their core five positional players underperform by 10 wins (with the depth in place unable to provide even replacement level production). I know we all want one person or thing to blame for everything, but I can’t blame Getz entirely for that. As I said, being historical bad requires a lack of talent and bad luck, and he inherited a ton of landmines when he took over that no GM could overcome. That doesn’t mean Getz did a good job (he failed in a lot of ways), but losing 121 games is more a reflection of Jerry and the previous regime than Chris IMO.

  32. Great post. The simple fact that he started getting rid of the dead weight and revamping and realizing the Sox org needed a change is a plus and I'm willing to see what happens. People here are anxious and rightfully so. As fans no one wants to go through what happened last year I'll say C+ B-

  33. Again, touche and I'm now gonna move the goalpost (and I acknowledge that): Dombrowski also won a World Series 6 years earlier. He did have one of the biggest disaster trades of all time as Expos GM(Randy Johnson), but he was someone with bona fides. Now, to give Getz a point back: Dombrowski also had an owner that was basically the opposite of Jerry when it came to spending.

  34. We're not grading Getz on what you feel he's going to do in the next 20 years. It's on what he's done so far. He's recognized and acknowledged problems in the organization and has made decisive moves to correct them. He's also identified one real strength and has leaned into it with his sole draft and off-season pitching moves. Two minor league teams have played for their league championship series and one won. Quin singled out Getz as the only GM to come close to the Mets' record. The Tigers came within a game of it. If you're grading Getz mostly on that 41-121 record, then no qualifications apply to Dombrowski's 119 loss season. And if you're going to bring up Getz' uneven record of trades, Dombrowski traded Brian Moehler and Jeff Weaver, basically, for Carlos Pena and Jeremy Bonderman. Dombrowski's early trades really didn't move the needle, either.

  35. Gave him a D so far. This can change quite a bit over the next year or two, depending on how things go. Positives: I like a lot of what's been happening behind the scenes. They're modernizing the organization and making what appear to be some good hires. Time will tell how these work out, but they are digging out from such a massive hole left by KW and Hahn so it's going to take a bit. They're leaning into their competitive advantage drafting Sale-like pitchers, and the results so far are encouraging. Fedde was a diamond in the rough, and a smart signing. Crochet became a premier starter and was traded for a really nice package of prospects. Last years' draft looks solid. Interested to see if that continues with the next two. Negatives: Recency bias, but the rash of TJ surgeries and other injuries is scary. They started to have issues with injuries when Herm left and that continues. They need to figure out their medical staffing and training issues ASAP. Getz had a pretty poor track record as director of minor league development. Some of this is the lack of talent in the org once the big prospects came up, but you'd expect they'd find a way to make SOME of these guys good. Colson's regression last year. How much is on him, on his back injury, and on the org? It's early still, but the trade returns for Cease and Fedde look pretty terrible so far. If Vargas carries over his spring improvements that will help a LOT, as will Zavala figuring it out and Thorpe making a recovery for 2026. They seem to struggle quite a bit identifying hitting talent, and then getting those players to maximize their potential. Fletcher and Deloach are prime examples. Hopefully hiring Ryan Fuller and establishing a modernized identity and process helps, but they need to fix this.

  36. I guess I'm putting more weight on process than results. Results wise, obviously it couldn't have gone any worse. But process wise, I think doubling down on the remaining core instead of tearing it down to the studs would have been way worse.
    1 point
  37. I think I mostly agree here, but I'd say the grade is more about how patient you're willing to be rather than your current belief in the process. Most of the hires made and changes being implemented are longer term things, so it'll be awhile before we know what kind of results they'll yield. For that reason, I disagree equally with giving an F because the roster right now sucks and giving a higher grade because changes have been made without knowing if they were beneficial changes yet.

  38. They have no money spend and they’re trying to be really bad again this year. This shouldn’t be this difficult to comprehend

  39. I think Martin will prove to be very valuable this season and he costs nothing. They have a top 50 prospect in baseball who plays shortstop already but yeah, the Robert trade return and next two drafts are very important. I don’t care about their W/L record from last year and I certainly don’t care about it this year either. It doesn’t matter all that much. We don’t know the outcome of the Crochet deal but they did extremely well on paper and with their process. I’ll ignore the other comment but it’s kind of a low blow. Don’t question my standards in regards to my day job.

  41. There's no doubt Getz has done good work on the front office and hired some really good people to (hopefully) steer this team in the right direction. As far as the on-field product, things don't look nearly as good. We all know his hand are tied financially by the owner. The trades have been more miss than hit. The Crochet trade looks, as of right now, to be a potential win. The Cease trade, even before Thorpe went down, looked bad. The Fedde/Kopech trade looked ridiculously bad from the beginning, although Vargas is looking better. But, man, that was a true headscratcher. This season looks to be horrendous from a win/loss standpoint, so we can only hope we start to see good development from the young guys and the beginning on a brighter future. Getz has A LOT of work to do to show he can be a good GM.

  42. If that means the Bears will privately finance a new AH stadium with the state paying for infrastructure, it probably sets in motion a similar deal for a Sox park in the South Loop (assuming the Ishbia rumor is true, and he commits to private financing of a new ballpark). I believe the Governor wanted stadium funding (infrastructure) for both teams to be covered in one package.
