Donaldson apologies to Robinson, "understanding" with TA
wrathofhahn replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He could have meant something different then what Anderson took it. Regardless only a dumbass says something borderline to someone they aren't tight with that could be taken the wrong way or someone who is trying be slick. Either way Donaldson just needs to stfu and go away -
Donaldson apologies to Robinson, "understanding" with TA
wrathofhahn replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Donaldson is a well known POS. Don't know if the comment is racist was or not it was borderline only Donaldson knows what his intent was. It clearly was an insult regardless and using Jackie name as an insult was disrespectful to not only Anderson and Jackie. Anyways glad Anderson and the Whitesox are just moving on from this. Donaldson is for the MLB and Yankees to figure out. -
Aaron Judge Critical Of Donaldson's "Jackie" Comment
wrathofhahn replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So what does that look like to you vis via Donaldson? What is the league supposed to do or the Yankees? Is he supposed to be banned from playing baseball? Or would you have liked to see his suspension longer? I think the biggest sort of punishment is how he is viewed by fans and his peers. Donaldson was sort of known by people who follow baseball closely as an ahole maybe not racist but at the very least not a good person. So the casual fans opinion on Donaldson will be colored by this and there will be a footnote to his legacy. That is probably bigger than any game ban whether that be 1 or 10 games. -

Do you even read the posts you write about? I said he should have gotten ten games but at the end of the day the club needs to move on and focus on the rest of the season. I don't think anyone buys Donaldson excuse but really what else is there to say on the subject? Whether the MLB suspends Donaldson for 10 games or 1 game at the end of the day unless you want him canceled he is going to be playing baseball again at some point. So why continue to beat a dead horse? I hope the club doesn't allow themselves to become distracted by this and continues to their stretch of good baseball. Anderson in particular who is on a tear -

It was a stupid insensitive borderline racist thing to say but it's not worth canceling Donaldson career over. Donaldson will serve his suspension which should have been longer (I would have preferred something closer to 10 games), noone should defend him or his comments, but at the end of the day life goes on as does the MLB season. Time for everyone to move on. -
Josh Donaldson suspended 1 game for comments toward TA
wrathofhahn replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Donaldson clearly doesn't know Anderson like that. I don't for sure know if he had negative intent but it's not something you say unless you know the person well enough that he wouldn't take it that way. That is why I don't really buy Donaldson defense him and anderson have history. There is no "inside joke" -
A's interested in Andrew Vaughn/Sox in Montas
wrathofhahn replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't know what is funny about this Paddock would easily be a good 4th/5th starter. I'd have done the trade in a second and still would. Y'all fall in love with relievers way too quickly I remember when half the board refused to trade Jace Frye. I am not looking to trade Bummer but if there is an opportunity to sell high you take it -
Not very to be honest. This team isn't hitting right now but the guys who aren't hitting are just slumping and way off their career numbers. I'm not concerned about the regular season I am more concerned about the playoffs and pitching

I have no idea why we didn't do the deal. It seems like what the Padres got and what we could have offered up natched perfectly I think the Twins massively underpaid. I would have been more than happy to do the same deal with Sheets and Bummer -

The Padres trade was the one to make. Just going off what was moved it doesn't seem like it cost as much and what they gave up we could have matched up well with. We have a bunch of cheap relievers and we could have offered someone like Sheets. How much worse is an offer Bummer and Sheets to Rogers and Rooker? -
Old Sock Drawer, ex Sox player discussion
wrathofhahn replied to elrockinMT's topic in The Diamond Club
That is the issue though isn't it. If he blows out his arm you are on the hook for another year if he performs spectacularly then he opts out. The issue with Rodon isn't brining him back is that contract is a boras special that is all risk and very little reward. I also have zero faith in rodon ability to stay healthy. He reminds me of Brandon Morrow his arm can't just take the wear and tear as a starter but doesn't want to get paid for relief work. So it's injury rehab injury rehab just hoping to put together one big year so he can sucker someone into signing him to a longterm deal -
Sox Acquire Reese McGuire for Zack Collins, Officially
wrathofhahn replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well it is. Grandal is a great hitting catcher but as a DH bat our internal options are probably not that much worse. It's a waste for him to be used that way either give him the rest or don't. -
Why would you want to buy a car that has been totalled twice? Just salute Boras for his genius and move on

Thats crazy to me considering how good our options at DH. If you want to give him rest just rest him. Vaughn and Co are more than capable of DH'ing As long as Mcguire can keep his offense similar to last year we will be fine even if Grandal gets injured for a stretch. I am not really worried about the offense and carrying a light hitting catcher -

I mean fangraphs had him worth 1.4 WAR last year in a limited backup role. I don't really get the move. I understand they needed to make a move eventually since Mareno is almost ready but why make the trade now and why take someone like Collins whose only value is his option. I don't get it for the jays but I really like the move for the sox. I just wish we went out and made a similar move at 2B rather than paying Josh Harrison 5m -
I don't like this at all because it sort of prevents us from taking a flyer on another player. I'd be surprised if he amounts to anything

https://www.sportstalkatl.com/braves-brian-snitker-hints-at-dead-arms-as-reason-for-sean-newcombs-struggles/ Like I said in the post I was posting guys with unsettled situations he may or may not be DFA'ed but he could probably be had for not much in a trade due to his lack of options.

Cueto is just a name at this point

That NYM - Padres deal was awful for the mets. Zero interest in Hosmer or his contract. If the Mets want to revisit that deal then let him Hosmer has 59M remaining and figures to be well below average as he ages. Not to mention our team is full of 1B-DH types who will outperform him at a discount. So you can't even make the argument you would be overpaying for a need.
-
What? He signed a 1yr 2m deal. The pirates would move him easily as he is not part of their longterm plans and they don't really plan on contending but how much would you give up? I wouldn't give up anything of value. He's been terrible this spring
-
I mean it's a pitchers park his xFIP was 4.27 still not awful but not great either. He's also 36 he's lost a bunch off his fastball he actually had okay velo last year 91-92 but the question is for how much longer can he maintain that. I'd much rather do a trade for a fringe DFA guy who is younger and has control. Sort of like we did with McGuire. I like the moves we made so far in getting guys like McGuire and Haisley we need to find that sort of equivalent at SP
-
MLBTR listed the players out of options and some interesting guys on the list. Sean Newcomb Tyler Beede Dillon Peters Jeff Hoffman It might be worth taking a shot on a guy who is about to be DFA'ed or could be had for cheap rather than dumpster diving the FA market. At least by doing a trade if it works out you have a player with a bit of control

wrathofhahn replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is a very good trade. Collins can't play he strikes out way to often and he is awful defensively. I have zero faith in him ever amounting to anything. McGuire still has upside because he's been able to hit at a competent level at times in both the minor leagues and MLB level. All he has to do is hit around .700 and he should be an excellent backup he's also under control till 2026. Essentially we traded someone who probably was going to be DFA'ed at some point and has had a - WAR the last three years for a defensive catcher with some upside. Been really impressed with the last two trades. -
Madrigal was always going to be a slap hitting "little person" . The mistake wasn't trading him it was drafting him in the first place and holding onto him doesn't fix anything. He had marginal value it is what it is. Glad to have Pollock

People need to hold off on the lineup stuff anyways we are going to have injuries and he is going to move around the fact he can play CF is a plus though.
