A deal on Cuban signs could be happening
wrathofhahn replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Trump is not going to allow the Castros to get rich selling Cubans to MLB. -
That 9 270 I suggested that was scoffed earlier maybe not as outlandish as some thought. We are fools if we are offering 50 million++ more. He only has three suitors right now. If the phillies want to get stupid that is not an excuse to follow. Boras is probably praying Machado signs with the Yankees the market for Harper is even slower.
-
I don't know there is certain amount of stuff that I think it true. For example the NYY leaks about how they won't go 300 million for Machado that is designed to keep fan expectations in check. The Nationals leak of the offer to Harper to set a market and show they gave an effort to resign him. The legit guys not random eggs on twitter still get a ton of stuff wrong but if you can sort of figure out the purpose of the leak you can sort of figure out how much validity it has.

Top 5 Favorite White Sox of All-Time
wrathofhahn replied to KnightsOnMintSt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Robin Ventura Louie Aparicio Carlton Fisk Paul Konerko Harold Baines Tommy John Billy Pierce Joe Horlen Rich Gossage (I know it's more but couldn't cut it down to 5) Others: Sherm Lollar, Big Hurt, Alexi Ramirez, Chet Lemon, Chris Sale, Jim Thome, Mark Buehrle, Doc White, Don Buford, Nelie Fox, Magglio Ordonez -
Judge was injured a whole bunch last year. They do not need a corner OF with Stanton and Judge. Hell they brought back Gardner so they don't even need a 4OF. The plan with Machado I would think would be to move Adujars and Voit to 1B/DH. Torres to SS.

As a raven fan that is not true at all I know tons of O's fans who couldn't stand his antics but felt forced to defend him.

What about Chris Tillman? I know he had a 10+ ERA last year but isn't he close with Machado too? Lets lock up all of Machado scrub friends just incase Alonso isn't enough.

Manny is all about the benjamins. I don't think the yankees are serious threats. Phillies have said they want to get stupid in FA. I wouldn't be surprised if they blow up the market. Legit guys with sources have said the Yankees won't go to 300 million. Legit guys with sources have said we won't do a record breaking contract. Nooone with legit sources is saying any of that inregards to the Phillies. In fact their owner and GM have said plan to go stupid with their spending but are unwilling to go full retard.

The Mets are an option. Big market. Huge hole at SS and 3B. They probably don't have a ton of money to spend for better options either.

He isn't very good even in the article posted he said the main thing he wants right now is everyday at bats. I would prefer all of our existing MI starters over Tulo. Sanchez is better at this point. Maybe he accepts a utility INF role with the cubs but he wasn't going to with the Jays and he won't here. So why bother? Seriously watch some of his at bats last year. He looked completely done.
-
He had a NTC he waived it to go to Tor. He also I believe (not confirmed) had a NTC still which is probably why he was released. It would have been impossible to navigate the money, return, and NTC. It's hard enough for a player like Cano who is still playing well. Edit: As far as his workout goes he still wants to play SS but can't could probably play 3B. Problem is he can't hit. Like I said unless he had some sort of injury at the time that was affecting things I saw him play a bunch of games in 2017 his bat is slow, long, and he guesses to try and speed it up. Even in 2016 I saw much as the same thing.
-
Tulo bat speed is gone. The games I saw it looked like he was guessing to even try to make contact and as a result chased some truly awful pitches. Dude is done.

Nice listen but Bowden makes up shit on a regular basis. Also we didin't sign Alonso and Upton was traded to the Angels it was actually an extension if memory serves.
-
Boras has a number he is looking for every offseason for his top FA's when he doesn't get it he waits and waits and waits. Fielder waited until late January. Hosmer happened in February. It doesn't look like a real robust market for Harper at this point. He'll wait. The Yankees have zero interest in Harper with their OF's the idea scenario for him is probably both the CWS and Phillies wanting harper without having landed a big fish.
-
I don't think it's naive at all. Dan Lozano clients sign much earlier then Boras. Boras is probably hoping he signs with the Yankees.
-
I said what I would offer earlier basically my targets would be with both players. Basically Harper I don't have a ton of interest longterm because in the backend of the deal he's going to be a DH. I think I said 8 years 28 million AAV or 225 million. For Machado it was 9 years 30 million or 270. I think someone is going to offer him what the nationals did 10/284 mainly on the basis Boras feels he can get that otherwise he wouldn't have declined the offer I am not sure of who though. I have no interest though for the sox to pay Harper 30 million to DH for the last 4 years of his deal through ages 37,36,35,34. He can barely play the field now at 26. If you look at JD deal his deal is 22 million AAV (declines in salary as he gets older) and carries him through age 34. Which is where 8 years on Harper deal would take him. Machado you can go longer with because eventhough his bat isn't the same he's been a positive defender at 3B basically his entire career which will likely carry well into his 30's.
-
I mean it's Boras so anything is possible but right now I don't see the market for it among the big market clubs. Machado seems to be the focus and it makes sense if you are going 10 years you need a player who will hold up defensively. Machado will probably hold up at least 6-7 years at 3B. Hell even the philies signed McCutchen and they play in the NL which should limit term. At least it would for me they won't be able to hide his defense at DH when he gets older. Cubs are set. Astros are set and just signed Brantley. Mets added a bunch of salary. Yankees have a crowded OF already. Redsox are tapped out and deep in the luxury tax. Dodgers have a ton OF depth already also near the lux tax. There was sort of this notion that all these big market teams were saving up to make a run at Machado and Harper. I haven't seen reporting of that if anything they are going out of their way to keep their fanbases expectations in check and not be used by Boras/Don Nationals offer leaked probably by Boras to drum up interest. I think there is sort of the expectation that it will take at least a contract similar to when Stanton was traded to sign Harper longterm.
-
I don't see a market for Harper right now. I'd be more crushed if they signed him to a bad deal then not at all. But that doesn't seem to be the thinking of others here
-
Heyman and King have reported that the Yankees don't value Machado as a $300 million player.
-
Machado agent doesn't mess around like Boras. Things could definitely move quickly. I'm not even sure of the market for Harper right now. I mean other then the Phillies who already signed McCutchen where is his market? There is talk about the dodgers signing him to a shortterm deal with a bunch of opt outs. It's still early and Boras could pull another Houdini but he should have accepted that Nationals offer even if he gets 300 million (which I still think not sure why) he probably won't get much more.
-
Like I said it wasn't Zisk fault but who we gave up. We should have tried harder to resign Gossage. Instead we got to watch him pitch the better half of a decade for the Yankees and get inducted into the HOF a Yankee.
-
Wasn't he legit injured though? Didn't he take a year off afterwards and undergo some sort of stem cell treatment in the DR? Anyways I remember Guillen being his usual asshole self and going out of his way to make the situation worse. I'm more surprised Lawrie isn't on the list. The guy faked an injury to quit baseball. Oh and Squires had 6 career home runs in 10 seasons as our everyday 1B.
