  1. If Hahn is making moves on that basis he should be fired. Trading Abreu is in the best interests of this franchise assuming you can get a decent return even approaching Goldy. This team lost 100 games last year. It will be bad with or without Abreu it's time for some fans to get their heads out of the clouds and back to reality
  2. It's the term that is killer for me if he had one year left or even two there could be an argument to be made as a change of scenery bounceback guy but three is just too risky. I think it says alot that the Mets didn't have any interest because they are one of the few teams who could use an upgrade at 3B.
  3. We could get involved and offer Abreu to the Yankees they need a 1B. Padres have some nice prospects everyone walks away happy.
  4. Agreed the last two years Seager has averaged 1.7 WAR. 2.2 WAR/600 PA. During the next thee he will make 60 million. There is zero upside there saying well he could bounce back is true then he'd be worth his contract. Just because of the term of three years I really wouldn't even be interested even if the Mariners decided to throw in prospects. 3B is a pretty hard position to find takers in the MLB most teams already have the position filled. So even if the Mariners ate close to half of the money 25-30 million I'm not sure they'd get much of a return if any. I don't think there is a market.
  5. Which year? So was Ricky Romeros for a time. It's only legit if hitters chase and he doesn't have the kind of dominating fastball that will cause hitters to speed up their bat
  6. This is one of the worst contracts in baseball. Guy has mediocre stuff and is a one hit wonder what are they thinking?
  7. The thing is I would think if some team wanted him that badly they would have traded for him and tendered him a contract. I would be mildly shocked if he signed for anything more then a year
  8. I remember him being ranked like 15th by BA to start the year. So I put him in the early 20's. After googling it seems Mayo had him at 37th in his last update before his call up. So top 40? In any case he had 138 PA at the ML level last year. Way too early to write him off. Moncada I love him but he's had way more play. Crawford also plays a premium position if he can hit for a .730-.750 ish OPS he'll be a fine SS. Little different inregards to 2B.
  9. This team is so far removed from a move like this. I feel I have to remind people but this team lost 100 games. We shouldn't be trading for someone like seager who should be looking at someone who is close and blocked like Chavis and offering Colome.
  10. You people are nuts Mariners easily win this deal. Crawford is a top 25 prospect and Segura is about to get super expensive. One of the things that is sort of interesting is clearly ownership has given him the green light to take on salary to get better prospect in deals.
  11. I think that is probably true but far from certain. It's why I'd rather have taken prospects for him now. I also think there will be other opportunities to acquire someone like Soria or sign a bounceback closer who could also be moved. Colome eats up one of those spots. But really the one person who knows what other offers out there is Hahn. I just hope someone wasn't offering a decent prospect and we went with Colome instead.
  12. This is just crazy talk they got out from under one the worst contracts in ML and got two legit top 100 prospects for a closer. This trade was a huge win for them.
  13. Shelby Miller is definitely worth a shot. Stuff is still there and he outperformed his ERA. I'm surprised by the amount of RFA's I would take a look at. Miller + Schoop are definitely two guys to watch. Matt Bush didn't he blow out his elbow? It's a pass for me
  14. Like I said in the earlier post for alot of these guys who are outliers in the age category they experience a major loss of skill then fall off a cliff you can even sort of see it on the graph with how much steeper the slope is after 35. The other thing that I didn't mention is his bat profile and the role it plays. Cano is not a guy whose ever been an OBP guy. Much of his value has been driven by BA and SLG which makes him more susceptible for that steep decline once his bat speed reaches an unacceptable level. I also think you are discounting the effects of roids and how it is used by older players to prolong their careers. The thing about Cano is he already has his money unless he's a total idiot he'll stop using it moving forward as he is putting 120 million at risk with literally no reward.
  15. This is the worst fleece job since the RA Dickey trade. Cano has almost a zero chance of being worth 100 milllion over the next 5 years and I'd be confident he at best would get two years if he was a FA. Crazy. There is so much wrong in that post. First of all there is cost opportunity to consider what is "cost" and "market value" are two totally separate things. Neil Walker was worth 2.2 WAR for example in 2017 or 17.3 million fangraph dollars but as a 2 WAR 2B he didn't have a whole lot of value to teams. So he had to sign a 1 year 4 million deal. Two he's 36. When you reach the fringe areas of age of MLB baseball player it gets much harder to project a decline because of how much of an outlier you are to begin with are essentially advocating a gradual decline until he reaches age 41. That's nuts. It may happen but likely won't. Most players experience a major loss of skill well before they reach that age. For example there was no hitter in MLB age 40. Three age 39 Beltre, Utley, and Martinez. Of those three Beltre is the only one who posted a positive WAR and had a 99 WRC+. 38 years old or later there were six and once again Beltre was the only player with a WAR above 0.2. Two of those players were perennial allstars earlier in their career Pujols and Holliday. Maybe he can continue to play well later but we know he was doing roids which makes these numbers he was putting up that you are basing the decline on suspect. It is likely his fall happens hard and fast.
  16. He's 25 though. At some point you have to figure out what you have with these guys I don't want us to go external
  17. He won't cost much why not stretch him out? He has starter stuff. Boston really didn't show much patience. I season of 4.08 xFIP isn't disqualifying to me. He could take over as our 5th starter probably won't cost much. Worth a shot as far as I'm concerned. I'd much rather bring in a guy like Kelly then some soft tosser who is going out there throwing garbage every night hoping someone chases.
  18. Because 2B is a physically demanding position and he's 36? Also some of his other seasons were likely enhanced. Betting on someone to continue to defy normal aging curves is bad bet sure there is a slight possibility Cano continues to defy the historical odds against him but why make that bet unless you have to? Especially when you have no DH to hide him should his defense decline to an unacceptable level. Here are the normal aging curves for offense:
  19. He's one guy I wanted us to target in the offseason. I'd actually put him into the rotation.
  20. It's around 25 million not 60. Nov. 30, 6:24pm: The Mariners are only expected to chip in something in the mid-$20MM range to cover Cano’s salary, per Passan (via Twitter). Seattle will still be absorbing the two significant contracts, of course, but it seems the New York org will be paying for about half of Cano’s contract (while also presumptively paying Diaz in arbitration). This is just a god awful trade for the Mets. Cano is really going to struggle moving forward playing the field and since he plays in the NL there is no DH to hide him at. This subtraction by addition for the Mets. Cano numbers will fall down to earth quickly as soon as he is off the juice. He's 35
  21. They still need someone to play the position Navarez is cheap and has four years of control. Colome is expensive and has two. I would have preferred prospects for Navarez but we'll have to wait and see how this works out. One thing people aren't even really considering is the volatility of relievers. Colome may not be good and us left with nothing the Rays traded him in the mist of a down stretch and got nothing.
  22. He made 5.3 million the year before. It's not that different from what Herrara made I think he jumped from 5.5 to 7.9
  23. Rumor is the Brewers will non-tender him should we have interest? Would allow us to try the Moncada in CF experiment. 10 million isn't too bad he would probably make at least 8 million as a FA Also a guy who could be flipped later assuming he rebounds. I'd take the chance. https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2018/11/30/haudricourt-brewers-face-tough-decision-tender-jonathan-schoop/2150964002/ Edit it's official guess noone wanted to trade for him: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/11/brewers-non-tender-jonathan-schoop-xavier-cedeno-dan-jennings.html
  24. I'm not so sure of that anymore. Soria went for what is currently the 19th ranked prospect. Other that hand trade pretty much all the relievers went for non top 100 prospects. Colome was originally traded for two non top 20 prospects.
