  1. It's going to be hard to move him without taking back salary. I'd definitely be interested though next year team is going to be bad he's in his 30's it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to keep him around
  2. Somehow he still gets invited to the events and still meets all the movers and shakers including being a guest of the CBC numerous times (http://www.finalcall.com/peacemission/lawmakers08-06-2002.htm) but you are right distancing yourself from Farrakhan is while important is ultimately meaningless if you haven't also distanced yourself from his ideals. Things like BDS. 911 conspiracies. Apartheid Israel. The same goes for Republicans when it comes to prominent alt right figures condemning them individually like for example David Duke is important. But's more important to condemn and reject the hate they preach. I don't know what can be done it's tricky when it comes to the 1st amendment but at the very least we need to be monitoring these people and their supporters. We need to go after these people with the same zeal as domestic terrorists who maybe planing a terrorist attack in the name of ISIS or Al Quieda (sic) because that is what this person was a terrorist.
  3. They were prosecuted because they Jewish to be clear not for any other reason. All nationalism means to me is as a government advocating for the welfare of your citizens and having civic pride/national pride. The Flag is nationalist. The Anthem is nationalist. Independence day is nationalist. Nationalism/Patriotism or whatever you want to call it is one of the few things that bind us all together because if you don't believe in America. Believe in your fellow Americans. Want to see America succeed on the world stage. Then how do you remain a country longterm when you have diverse values and are a melting pot? In some ways party affiliation has outstripped national identity where people walk around saying they are members of a resistance and not my president. To me that is much more dangerous then nationalism and was essentially how the first civil war was started. Moving on to the act itself. Obviously it's heinous and it deserves a response for that to happen both sides to need to unite and confront these elements on both ends of the political spectrum I hear on the news people blaming Trump for his rhetoric like somehow heated rhetoric between democrats and republicans causes antisemtism. It's ridiculous. These people aren't being radicalized by Trump they are being radicalized by other racists on 4chan, Gab, Voat, facebook, etc. Hell the shooter hated Trump and thought he was being controlled by members of his family and the Jewish people in his administration. He never voted for Trump but even if he did that isn't/shouldn't have been the point and the people who are blaming Trump are just playing politics. What is needed is a bipartisan effort to confront antisemitism on both the alt right and fringe left. That means Farrakhan needs to be condemned and confronted by the left. That means Al Sharpton needs to make clear the person he was then is not who he is now. That is why the radical BDS and apartheid movement as it relates to Israel needs to be condemned. As of now far left views racism through the lens of a power structure basically it's impossible for the privileged or "oppressor" to experience racism from a marginalized group or "oppressed" and when it occurs it is often mocked, denied, ignored or minimized.
  4. This is utter nonsense. Are you saying a good portion of Israel is not nationalist? And that Zionism is not a real thing? Why is nationalist 'scary'? And socialist not just as scary? I have relatives that are Jewish and they get extremely defensive when the topic of Israel arises even-though they are American and I fully understand why considering their history. It's their ancestral homeland it's biblical for them. As far as the rest goes I find it interesting you bring up privilege because when democrats talk about white privilege they use some of the very same language that should sound familiar. They claim whites are born rich. Whites control the means of production. Whites aren't sharing enough of their wealth. Whites give unfair opportunities to their own race. It doesn't take a genius to catch my drift here. There is no point in arguing otherwise the alt-right is a problem but are we going to pretend the left doesn't have a Farrakhan problem? An Al Sharpton problem? BDS problem? Palenstine problem? I would like to see both parties condemn the antisemitism where it exists and that includes everyone Trump included.
  5. I hope Trump invites his good friend Netanyahu to the victim site and makes it clear that we stand with the state of Israel and American Jews there should be no confusion on this. This clearly beyond the heinous act of killing Jews while they visit their place of worship was also an attempt by the shooter to drive a wedge between Israelis, American Jews, and America. We cannot allow the shooter to succeed.
  6. That is a misnomer because you can get decent prospects by trading guys having good years. Remember that's basically how we got Rutherford. Medeiros is a lesser return but is a former 1st round pick probably has late 2nd to early 3rd round value at this point. So yeah even though the returns aren't what they once were it's still better to move guys then just tank for draft pick position. You are usually looking at at least one to two interesting guy per trade for a veteran that is performing at a high level. What sort of gets lost in the Astros rebuild is the trades. And of course everyone knows what the Yankees did. For me anyways roster spots are too valuable to be filled by 4A guys who will never be amount to anything, never be worth anything, and won't be around when you are good. The Rays do a even better job then most teams because what they tend to do is trade the guys who have value from the year before FA then fill them in with stop gaps with FA. If the team stinks they unload the stop gaps at the deadline. If the team is good then they make a run for the playoffs.
  7. Is Machado supposed to be part of a winning culture? Is he really the type of player you want setting an example for others? The thing is Machado is a very good player but even if he continues to build upon his career year next years team has too many holes in too many spots to go anywhere. Particularly, as it relates to the bullpen and starting pitching. The other thing Machado does is it puts us on an accelerated timetable and honestly I don't want our future planned around his timetable. It needs to happen organically we will know when the roster is ready to compete it will be obvious to everyone. As far as the rest goes like I said earlier 2WAR players seemed to be the sweetspot last FA. Those guys signed for basically nothing between 4-8 million. Well we can fill alot of holes with that money and have some pieces to move down the line without the pressure of forcing an unrealistic timetable. I mentioned many of the names earlier but there are other guys too. Moose. Lucroy. You had guys like Adam Lind forced to accepted minor league deals. The main thing is I don't want to see any of this 4A garbage anymore. We know we need an OF. We know we need a legit DH. We know we need a 3B. We also know we need a SP probably two. We also know we need a couple of bullpen arms. Go out and spend 50 million or so and bring in somestop gap guys. If they rebound you'll get some decent prospects come deadline time and you'll give the fans something worth watching with professional hitters and people that can pitch.
  8. Well we do have talent in the minors but honestly most of their drafts have been unimpressive. We always focus for the safe guys and then wonder why there isn't the upside well it's mainly because we are drafting college guys with obvious flaws. You look at the teams that sort of do the best in the draft and they are the ones unafraid to take chances on HS and invest heavily in the Latin market. Like the Rays. Dodgers. Yankees.
  9. He was also according to reports a prolific steroid user which could have fucked around with the chemistry of his brain and exacerbated his already fragile mental state. Who knows. I'm sure at somepoint the media will get ahold of him and will get a better idea of his story. Personally, I don't care I'm just glad he is caught without seriously injuring someone. My mistake. It was meant as one off joke I was not intentionally trying to derail the thread. It won't happen again.
  10. True but the other was only meant as a joke plus it was teed up so perfectly I had to take the swing. As far as the rest goes it really the issue I've had with the coverage isn't so much that it's being covered obviously it's a big deal just like people are pretending it's a one off event and are engaging in selective amnesia. I do hope this is a wakeup call for everybody but I remember how after Scalise was shot that was supposed to be a wakeup call. I think people stayed woke for maybe a week before going back to their tribes.
  11. Sox have two guys who would fill immediate needs in Groome and Chavis who fortunes have declined a bit and Chavis is blocked. I wonder if there is a deal to be made in the offseason.
  12. Agreed. That is one thing that always amazes me when one of these events happens it's rarely if ever like the guy in Nevada. They usually have a rapsheet a mile long. I'm just glad they caught him and everyone is safe.
  13. Well at least that explains why Warren was never targeted. Anyways glad he's caught and this is done with without anyone getting hurt.
  14. Thank god they caught this clown. Hopefully, they figure out what his motivations were and throw the book at him
  15. I mean we don't know anything about this person other then he is really bad at making bombs. I do find it curios though what the media does and does not choose to cover. The individual sending anthrax to Trump officials got maybe a day worth of coverage. The Bernie Bro who shot up Republican lawmakers on the baseball field critically injuring Scalise got maybe a couple of days. Paul was beaten up by his democrat neighbor next door late night comedians made jokes and laughed at his expense. There has been multiple attempts to assassinate Trump from ISIS, to people attacking him during his campaign, to people attempting to breach his motorcade none of which received much coverage. Those are just the physical threats. The NYT recently published an assassination fantasy of Trump. Biden threatened to take him to the woodshed. Booker and Maxine have told their supporters to accost Republican lawmakers wherever they go. They have been surrounded and told the most vile things as they leave work by democrat activists. Griffith held up a decapitated head. Late night comics have made jokes regarding incest. Labeled Melenia a prostitute. To our former AG telling his supporters to assault Republicans. Over 90 percent of the coverage of Trump administration from the media is negative. There has been wall to wall coverage of this singular event for days with no end in sight. My question is why? What makes this act any different then the political violence that has already been occurring? I like everyone else would like the rhetoric toned down what makes me cringe most regarding Trump is the rhetoric but why are we pretending he is the only one with unclean hands in all this? As CNN says facts matter and the fact is there is more then enough blame to go around when Trump said we need to unite the focus in the media and the other side (it's hard to tell the difference) was on how he needed to change there was zero self awareness of the role they played into all this. And until they wake up and realize it's a shared responsibility to be more civil nothing is going to change.
  16. Well it's hard to predict free agency but going off last year I can't see any of those numbers happening. Isn't James f**an an agent? You look at what Yonder Alonso got which was 2/18 and he was coming off a better season. I could see him maybe getting that if someone really wanted him but if someone wants to do better let them I'm just looking at him as a bounce back guy. Edit: NVM that is Dan Fegan
  17. Huh? Why would Marwin get those kind of numbers? Also Lance Lynn had an ok year but 10=10 4.77 ERA doesn't scream big money or term to me. If anything he should be worth less because he had a much better year in 2017. Thing is for me I'm willing to take chance because his stuff is still solid but you are right at his age he maybe more interested in term. Just don't see a ton of teams offering it he may get 2-3 years for really low money.
  18. Trade Abreu Trade Sanchez Trade Rodon --------------------------------------- Sign Joe Kelly 3/21 Sign Garret Richards 3/30 Sign Lance Lynn 1/12 Sign Cody Allen 1/8 Sign AJ Ramos 1/4 Sign Marwin Gonzalez to play LF 1/5 Sign Matt Adams 1/3 Sign Brett Gardner 1/6 Sign Josh Donaldson 1/18
  19. He's putting up number one numbers sure but the question is moving forward. His velocity is declining rapidly at a steady pace. He pitches in an extreme pitchers park and in the NL. I have zero interest in him pitching for the sox because of the contract and term that would be required and where his current trajectory is. People need to stop fantasizing over those Dodgers pitching numbers. I mean 38 year old Rich Hill is putting up mid 3's Era in that park. Ryu had a sub 2 ERA. They aren't real.
  20. Kershaw is more a name then anything right now. His velocity has fallen off a cliff. Throwing at James Shields speeds.
