The argument of "oh no you've pissed off x" is completely without merit because the money is gone they aren't getting back regardless of what they do in FA. In fact the later a player hits FA the more leverage you have to sign them to an extension and buyout their FA years. Take Machado for example. He was brought up at age 19 didn't really hit for 3 years until he got to age 22. Looks like the classic case of a guy brought up early. I assume because of the Orioles magnanimous gesture he signed an extension that bought out his prime years 26 onwards. Oh wait he didn't. Strange. It's almost like bringing him up early makes him more of an attractive free agent and less willing/more expensive to negotiate an extension that buys out his prime years. Would he have been more willing to sign an extension if instead of being brought up at age 19 was brought up at age 22? At that point he'd be what 29? I mean it's just math. People are making emotional arguments and not looking at the facts.

Or more in line with my original thought process do you think Yankee fans care they traded for Chapman when the allegations hit. What did they end up with? Oh that is right Torres, Warren, and McKinney. AND Chapman
-
Tatis JR the number two prospect in MLB came from one of these type of deals. The Yankees got boatloads of prospects for both Chapman and McCann in those deals. It happens more often then you think mostly it requires you to take a chance on some of the more highly regarded lower level guys who maybe further away. But that isn't the point the point is we could use some of these guys in the minor leagues. Our system is top heavy and most of the guys from 20+ down are old. There really isn't any second wave 2-3 years after the top guys get called up.

Ok but the Astros are probably top three when it comes to finding, drafting and developing young talent. Hahn is about average when it comes to getting something out of his own picks. What jump started the rebuild wasn't the the draft it was trades and what allowed that to happen was the fact KH signed two guys to way below market extensions. It's also well much easier to identify talent that has already been in the minors for 3-4 years. I just think we had an opportunity this season to walk away with much more then Medeiros and didn't. We should have brought in more rentals like Soria who could be moved at the deadline. I hope we are active after the deadline Abreu resurgence along with some other teams desperation (ehm Yankees) might make for a deal.

I don't want them to sign longterm guys but there is no reason for us to play AAAA guys when we have the roster spots and cash to sign veterans looking for pillow deals or trade for distressed assets. I really wanted us to sign a DH last offseason and some pitching. We could have helped the rebuild tremendously if we brought in some more young talent particularly at the lower leagues. Instead we really only moved Soria. While we got an OK return it just seems like a huge missed opportunity in a lost season to only move one guy and bring in one quality prospect.

Someone gives reputation to something I posted is set to admin only toggling ?

NVM it says adminstrator prevents it from being toggled. I thought it was off. Yet got more notifications please allow us to disable the feature.

Thank you so much exactly what I was looking for. Finally I will only be notified only on replies.

I don't want likes just an end to the notifications. I'm being sincere.

I don't care if someone likes loves laughs or is confused by my posts. Is there someway to turn it off? I'm only interested in replies. It's annoying to get notifications and then see it's just somebody being "confused" by post. I looked in the notification settings for a way to turn it off but can't find it.

Meadows isn't near the prospect as Jimenez but 49 games isn't enough of a datapoint to use advanced stats. Also Meadows played CF in the minors. Pitt dimensions are pretty tough as well. The major difference is Jimenez has so much more power. He's got 30-40HR pop. Meadows is more of a 15-20 guy. Meadows sort of has to play CF to be a hugely impactful guy. Jimenez doesn't his bat plays anywhere.

If we ended up with Maciel and Duran I would have been more then happy if it was followed up with a Pham for Gonzalez move. Our farm gets better and we acquire a more valuable piece down the line what is not to like? I don't really understand the logic at all of your post. You don't want to give up anything at all for Pham whose much better then Sanchez and who we actually have a spot for instead of forcing him to become a light hitting 3B. Then you won't accept anything but the perfect offer for Sanchez. Don't get me wrong I want as much as I can get for him too but he's a depreciating asset his main value is the control and when we get good he won't have a ton of value to us as we'd probably be looking at an upgrade at 3B. Moncada plays his best position. Pham is also a guy who if he rebuilds his value can be moved down the line too. That is a reason why the Rays as non-contenders took a shot on him. they aren't in a position to win this season either but probably figured he was worth a look since he was blocked in STL and has 4-6 WAR potential. There are a bunch of guys yes Sanchez and Lynn. Hellickson. Evoldi. Fiers. Hell I'd feel much better even if we took a chance on a guy like Tillman if he worked out at least there would be some upside to get something for him there unlike Gonzalez and Shields I mean shields is a perfect example he throws 89 MPH regardless how he pitches teams know they can't use him in the playoffs. He was always going to have limited value. My goal was for us to have someone to force him to the bullpen maybe he'd be able to find some MPH there in short stints and would be available should someone implode or get injured.

1. Agreed Hahn gambled on Abreu and Garcia then lost. It's somewhat not his fault (as most of us wanted to hold onto Garcia and Abreu to the deadline) but it's still a huge negative as far as the rebuild is concerned 2. That could be true. Still his value is pretty well maximized and his years of control aren't as useful to a club that is rebuilding 3. Disagree. 4. I don't think that is true. I don't think Fry is distressed moreso people are obsessed. I do think the trade market wasn't as good as years past. Only one elite prospect really changed clubs. Interestingly enough not in the Machado deal in the Hand deal. Maybe, we didn't have enough to get them to move off hand but I hope we tried. 5. Williams was their 14th ranked prospect at the time of the trade whose having a terrible year (but has been promoted aggressively). Our 14 ranked prospect Luis Gonzalez is also rated 50 by MLB pipeline. Would you be willing to do that deal? Remember Pham had an over 6 WAR last year. If he even stabilizes at 4ish WAR at around 800 OPS you easily win the deal. The Rays essentially paid reliever prices for a quality OF who has the possibility to be much. 6. We should have went after a bunch of these guys in the offseason particularly inregards to the starting rotation. I guess where I am sort of coming from is I'm of the belief that the quickest way to jump start a rebuild is through trades. Get some talent and move guys other teams want. We basically started the year with a bunch of guys that weren't terribly interesting and weren't going to net us anything down the road who also probably wouldn't be good enough to play for us when we got good.

I'm having difficulty seeing the process anymore. First of all we definately should have been more active in FA bringing in ML guys who have a chance to rebound. We really only made one deal that follows that line of thinking Soria where we easily came out ahead. Two, we didn't move the guys we should have Avilian, Cedeno, Frye, Abreu, Garcia (both), all should have been moved. Sanchez should have been moved. We should have been looking at acquiring distressed assets like Pham. Osuna. Look at what Hand went for we should have attempted to package Soria/Frye/Avilian with some of our guys to get a major prospect back. So far depending on what happens after the non-waiver deadline it's been a lost year. If the plan is to just suck without stockpiling assets and taking chances on other teams distressed assets we are going to be waiting for a long time.
-
Really the Rays got him for nothing and he gets to play CF. I have no idea what we are doing we didn't move the guys we should have and we didn't add any stop gaps or controllable guys like Pham in the offseason that could be worth more. This rebuild is going to take longer then most people think if we are just going to waste years being bad without stockpiling assets.

Glasnow is being used as a reliever if it's a reliever and Meadows they won the deal.
-
He's also close enough to FA where the last thing he wants is people talking about his arm or needing surgery.

Honestly these shoulder and elbow inflammation is tricky how many times do we hear it's nothing serious then after a couple of months of not getting better boom the pitcher is getting TJ?

Adam Eaton with a subtle shot at the White Sox?
wrathofhahn replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Honestly considering he's spent most of his Nats career in rehab how would he know? -
The Red Sox announced that they’ve placed left-hander Chris Sale on the disabled list, retroactive to July 28, with inflammation in his pitching shoulder. The team recalled righty Brandon Workman from Triple-A Pawtucket to take Sale’s roster spot.

The Pirates have struck a trade to acquire starter Chris Archer from the Rays, according to Stephen Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (via Twitter).

Blue Jays Trade Roberto Osuna to Astros

They don't care they saw a distressed asset and took advantage. It's part of what makes their FO a step above ours and the rest of the league. -
Sox Acquire Caleb Frare from NYY for Intl Pool Money
wrathofhahn replied to PolishPrince34's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm well aware of how this works. Yankees should send a huge thank you note to the whitesox they got to dump someone who they were going to lose in the rule 5 anyways plus got the money to sign the number 5 IFA with more then half left over. I understand we can't go after some of the top guys but 1.5 million can get you a ton of the midrange guys who won't go for more then 300K anyways. -

Would be a bad guy to take a chance on. Could be a situation similar to what happened with Chapman and the Yanks who got him for pennies on the dollar.
