  1. Why? He has little no upside either to the Sox or as a future trade candidate. The fact the catcher position should be wide open should be attractive to catchers looking to rebuild their value. You want to take a flyer on someone go sign Gary Sanchez at least he was ok-decent for the padres.
  2. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if the Orioles go all in. Their owner is too cheap to sign free agent pitching, they don't have really guys rocketing up the minors pitching wise, and there is overlap among some of their position prospects.
  3. I'm saying as a non-contending team our leash will be much longer than the LAD. He's been successful here in the past so whatever you think of the organization he's likely comfortable here. Also players do get into funks and work their way out of it. I mean it really boils down to what is important to Giolito get his 1 year deal on a contending club with the pressure to perform well or take a 1 year deal with a non-contending club and focus on rebuilding his value knowing unless he is completely unplayable he is going to get the baseball every 5th day I don't see him getting 70M. I expect a 1 year or a 1+1 contract. I mean he was waived twice after the trade and was awful
  4. I'd go to the Whitesox because we will show the patience to rebuild his value. Dodgers will move him to the bullpen if he doesn't perform. I doubt he gets a longterm deal. He was waived multiple times. I suspect he will get a 1yr deal wherever he goes or at best a 1yr plus 1yr player option
  5. Also reading it about more there was rumor of him coming out sooner which may have been what I was confused with. Reading back he was rumored to want to be posted at age 24-25 and basically was advised to wait because it would cost him tens of millions. But you are also right Dodgers questioned his medicals according to the MLBTR link JAN. 7: The Dodgers have added another significant pitcher, officially signing star Japanese righty Kenta Maeda. It’s quite an unusual contract for the Wasserman Media Group client, whose physical reportedly revealed some issues that could cause health problems down the line.
  6. I went back through his MLBTR saga. I had it backwards. In the past teams negotiated exclusively with clubs and basically whomever paid the highest fee would have exclusive rights to negotiate a contract. Meada was too old for the IAFA pool which is capped at 25 (which he would have been posted under otherwise and was recently changed at that time - I may have been thinking of another japanese pitcher). https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/japanese-posting-system The MLB changed the structure so that the maximum fee paid to japanese clubs would be 20M and anyone willing to pay that fee could negotiate a contract. Dodgers won at 8/25 like you said but the total was actually 100M with incentives. I have no idea if he reached those incentives https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/dodgers-to-sign-kenta-maeda.html Anyways always good to learn something. Had no idea that that posting process was so convoluted.
  7. Wasnt there some sort of rule or something that they were treated as amateurs? Think most of the money went to the posting fee
  8. I'd like for us to start signing buy low candidates. We should be taking a flier on Giolito. I doubt he gets a multiyear deal. He was comfortable here. Would he come back for 1/14 to 1/16?
  9. Me too look at what Q went for and other pitchers. I don't expect a couple of top 100 prospects I expect one top 15 prospect and one fringy top 50 prospect. Heck Giolito and Lopez went for two top 100 prospects and they are certainly not as good nor had any control (less than half a season). I expect if a team doesn't pony up now they'll do so at the deadline everyone needs starting pitching.
  10. Exactly. People need to get out of the mindset this team needs LHB or RHB or whatever. This team lost 100 games with Cease last year the goal should be to get as much minor league talent as possible and start trading for and signing other teams depressed assets. India would be one example. Austin Meadows could be another.
  11. This team isn't winning anything the goal shouldn't be to build the perfect lineup it should be to get as many depressed assets as possible and hope their values can rebuilt and be moved later. So I could care less if the fit is perfect. Is he available and can he be had at a low cost those are the only two things the sox should be concerned about. This isn't going to be a one or two year process. But to stay on point India doesn't have the value to frontline a cease trade and I have no interest in him beyond being a buy low option
  12. I'd trade for him but he's a buy low option not a centerpiece. We should be stocking up on guys who are pump and dump options as we start the rebuild. The more of these guys we bring in and are successful with the shorter the rebuild ends up being. One of the huge issues with Hahn is just how bad he was at doing this and signing free agents.
  13. No it's not and the market for front line starters is pretty well established. That isn't going to get it done unless the person in the teens is Holliday.
  14. I am suggesting even if they are good we will be burning through their service time on bad teams.
  15. Of the guys ranked at the top of their system Rushing is the guy I like best. If we can get Rushing, Josue De Paula and 1 of Jesus Tillero, Samuel Munoz, or Joendry Vargas I'd be happy. This organization needs to change it's approach when it comes to drafting and the players it targets on trades. We need to stop trying to hit singles and instead go for a homerun.
  16. Look this team lost 100 games and is going to get worse after a cease trade. We need to stop looking at it from the perspective of filling out holes on the roster and get the best highest upside talent from their system. We can do a separate deal or sign a stop gap OF, IF, SP if needed to fill out the roster.
  17. I am not a fan of moving him not because we shouldn't move him but because his value is at it's lowest point. Much like Moncada the goal needs to be for him to build up some sort value first.
  18. Look at what Rondon got last year. Signing any pitcher to 7 years is "insane balls" there is just so much that can go wrong with their arms. Like if the plan is to trade cease for a huge return rather than sign him to a Nola like extension sign me up. Mid-market teams should be moving every valuable pitching asset 1-3 years before free agency the Rays have been doing it for years. When is the last time when these huge big money extensions have worked out well for their clubs? Yu Darvish? Rodon? Patrick Corbyn? Grienke? Bauer? Robbie Ray? Jacob deGrom In fact it would be easier to name the signings that has worked out well recently. Off memory Grossman. Eduardo. Gerrit Cole
  19. Busch and Frasso are 25 and 26 if we are trading Cease it signals a likely rebuild how do you rebuild with prospects in their middle 20's?
  20. I was told we were going to pick up his option and that it was just a down year.
  21. The article I read said he was out of options. Really wish baseball reference dashboard still showed service time and options./
  22. I'll be honest the guys at the top of their farm ranking are not all that great. They are old. Like really old to be on top 100 lists. You also have to wonder how some of those numbers they are putting up in AAA translate to the majors like Busch came up and really struggled. The minor leagues are full of AAAA older players who can dominate at lower levels. Josue De Paula, Jesus Tillero, Samuel Munoz, and Joendry Vargas to me are the most desirable pieces from their farm system the dodgers are great finding Latin American talent. They basically have their pick of high toolsy young players every year and to me I'd prioritize upside in any trade with them especially considering their frontline prospects
  23. I have no idea why he and clevinger were not moved at the deadline.
  24. It's a good trade. Yes, Soroka is coming off a bunch of serious injuries but his stuff has remained relatively the same particularly his velocity. He probably won't ever be a frontline starter but even a 4th or 5th starter is more valuable than Bummer. Lopez is nothing special but can be used as a utility guy which is the path you should pursue going to year with these guys rather than signing guys like Garcia to extension. Shewmake is AAA fodder and since he is out of options will probably be DFA at some point. Shuster had a good minor career. He doesn't have frontline stuff but once again there is value in having either be a longman or a 5th starter. There is also the potential should he be moved the bullpen he finds a cpl of miles on his fastball Getting potentially two backend starters with control and an utility player for a reliever is a homerun.
