Are they going to announce they have fired themselves? Otherwise what could they say that will be remotely interesting. -

He wasn't physically capable of being that guy anymore. Still his reputation is exactly what this team needed and still needs. We can't afford to have another manager who is a punching bag for this clubhouse and while getting rid of the worst offenders is important too it's much easier to fix the clubhouse by getting a manager who will hold players accountable -

Did Anderson lose that one too. It's becoming more and more of an open question whether Anderson gets that option picked up -

Why would he lie? And he is trashing his teammates just as much as the organization -

Completely fair criticism because that is what TLR was which was too old and in too poor of health to manage. However, what TLR was 30 years ago is what this club desperately needs even moreso than an new age manager who understands analytics. Clearly the inmates have run the asylum for far too long and there is a complete lack of discipline on and off the field. We desperately need to bring in a veteran experienced manager who are going to hold these guys accountable over the course of a long season -

Its funny because TLR was here everyone criticized him for being out of touch let the players play they said. Well you see what happens when you let the inmates run the aslyum. With that being said I cant and wont defend some of his managing moves but this team desperately needs a credible firm hand that is going to hold people accountable -
I mean he got cancer and had a long layoff. We don't know if he still would have been able to come back regardless had they exercised more caution I mean he still could have blown out his arm. But I would have liked to find out what exactly was he pitching for this year that he needed to come back as soon as he did?
-
Agreed. With that being said prior to his health scare he was one of better Hahns signings.
-
He will decline his option so it's not just our decision. I would be shocked if he doesn't get a multi year deal as a FA since the MLB is so starved for SP his stuff is still good and he has put up good numbers. So I don't really understand why he wasn't moved but maybe they are working on an extension or something behind the scenes
-
If you are doing a complete teardown it would have made sense to move Robert who still has four years of control left because while I agree he is a franchise cornerstone type player you are going to be probably burning through at least three of those years just trying to get into contention maybe all four. But since we aren't by keeping Cease and pretty much the people with multi year deals moving him would have made no sense. Here is the thing we can always revaiuate things next year. I am encouraged by what we did this deadline now we need to see how they fill out the roster. The only thing I wish they did is they brought in guys like Urias or India as essentially flyer type options. Guys who would still have control and eliminate a position you needed to fill in the offseason should they be able to get themselves back on track.
-
His FIP was 4.44 at the time which is strange to say considering our defense but he was infact a bit lucky. Same goes for Clevinger. Speaking of Clevinger he is really the one issue I had because he should have been moved. I get the timing wasnt perfect coming back from injury and he has a dark cloud over him but he's a solid number 3 on a playoff team I would be shocked if there was no offers. Heck chapman got moved and he is a reliever.
-
Exactly this. I have very little confidence in Hahn being able to pull it off but this seems to be a plan. We had a choice to move cease and roberts doing a complete teardown or a retool. We choose to do a retool. Honestly I am surprised we got as much as we did back because none of these shortterm guys were having great years and were a big reason why our record is what it is.
-
I mean it could be worse at least we moved our guys take a look at what the redsox and yankees did. I would be much more upset if we did nothing. We chose a direction at least by retooling. Time will tell if it was the right decision we could be right back in the same spot next year if Hahn wastes money again in FA instead of bringing in the guys this team needs. But at least there is some semblance of a plan forming.
-
Look I get being frustrated but I don't get being frustrated after this deadline. We needed to move these guys we aren't going anywhere this year. Furthermore, we cleared some future salary too. Got some prospects we could use to help rebuild or bring a player that can help us. It was overall a good week in what has been a god awful year.
-
He has already been taken care of. He signed a 3/54 deal and his 15m option will be paid out installments when it's declined. Liam whatever happens to him from a health perspective should be fine financially.
-
This is complicated because every year teams have left over money they dont spend. Ideally you would like to get involved but its a rigged process you have to get in the game grease the agents and academies in the DR and Latin America. The LAD are very good at it. We are not. Id prefer to spend the money but this is the 2nd best outcome. So I am conflicted because it could also be worse. We could end up with nothing

It is far from a sure thing that Burger will be able to be a good hitter over the course of his career. He will be 28 next year and his approach at the plate needs a ton of work. His defense needs work at 3B if he is to have any value defensively. Right now he is 1B/DH who projects to have .725ish moving forward. Infact Zips projects him to have .706 OPS to finish the year and be worth -1.6 offensive runs. Steamer projects him to have .737 OPS and be worth -0.3 offensive runs Anyone who thinks Burger is going to be able continue to outperform the careers of some of the best HR hitters of our generation is delusional. Ohtani doesn't have the career ISO of Burger season right now. Alonso doesn't. Matt Olson has a career ISO of .264. Schwarber has a career iso of .259. Burger iso was .313 this year for the CWS. It was and is completely unsustainable. There are really only two outcomes either Burger overhauls approach at the plate, becomes more selective, less swing and misses, and is able to have a long productive MLB career or he continues his current path falls down to earth hard and becomes basically a replacement level player.
-
I dont root for players I root for the team. The team isnt even going to win 50 games it can't afford to have untouchable "fan favorites" in trades. Futhermore Burger is a no defense 1B/DH who doesn't have a spot on the team when everyone is healthy and is not going to replicate his ISO numbers moving forward without adjusting his approach at the plate. In summary, we sold high by getting a top 100 prospect for a guy who will be 28 next season, doesn't have a position, doesn't have an obvious spot on the roster, and whose current numbers are unsustainable in the long run. Judging it as a strict baseball move it was a no brainer. Anyone who does get that is free to root for the Marlins.
-
If he didn't have a hit and walk in his first game would you have been fine with the trade? I refuse to live game to game or series to series with Burger. Call me after the season and if he has a ton of walks with the Marlins Ill say well maybe it's time to revise how we think about Burger heading into next season
-
I don't think you can expect or be worried that happens. Burger will be 28 at the start of next year. If you are worried about every non-obp, non-avg, tower power type 1B/DH turning into something then your 40 man roster would be full of Sheets and Palka types. Right now what Burger is doesn't project much better than replacement level moving forward. If the Marlins can unlock something hidden in him you tip your cap to them but you always take the top 100 prospect when offered and move on. This isn't even really a controversial trade.
-
I would have been fine keeping Middleton if he still had control considering what seems to be a weak return but he had to be moved. If Carela is all we could get back then that is just the reality of things. I am fine with paying relievers in FA if necessary for a year it's these multi year deals that kill us. Especially when you have gaping position holes and are signing guys like Laury for 2B it should be obvious to everyone it makes a heck of a lot more sense to take that extra 10-15M and put it towards an elite to very good 2B. There are always teams looking to sell ML if you need one at the deadline
-
Not going to hate him he likely could have taken a medical retirement Probably happened because they stressed the arm too much after such a long layoff

Errors are a terrible way to measure defense for multiple reasons for one it's completely subjective to the scorer and no two scorers are the same. Two because Moncada has much more range he gets to more ground-balls and creates more opportunities for himself to make a mistake fielding the ball. More importantly while it's important to measure mistakes the amount of mistakes an infielder makes in of itself doesn't make a good or even bad defender. What makes a good defender is how often they record a PO relative to their peers on any given play. If the Marlins want to play him at 3B all the more power to them. Note: Not defending Moncada
