The Sox will play much better because they have a new manager. Most first yr managers on decent teams ending up playing great the first yr. Just ask Rocco baldelli, even robin Ventura had the Sox in first in late August before they collapsed. If healthy, the Sox will win the division this yr. The Indians are the same team they were the beginning of 2022. Nobody really gave them a chance then but they caught an over confident Sox team that had no heart and at the end ran away with it. My prediction, Grandal will have a great yr at the plate and everyone will be bitching that Jerry is too cheap at the end of the yr because he won't extend him.

So true, a fan is not obligated to attend a game. Just like an owner is not obligated to spend his $ on players. But......if the owner is supported by many fans coming out to the game and spending their hard earned cash. Then an owner should spend a good amount of that revenue on players. My point is attendance is BELOW avg and our payroll is ABOVE avg. So why are the majority of people here acting like the reason the Sox aren't playing good is because the owner is cheap? Blame the players that like Moncada, that is not playing to his capabilities. Let's blame Mr.Glass, Eloy for never staying Healthy. We can also blame buster Lucas Giolito also for not earning his paycheck. The organization has spent the $, locking up Robert, Eloy, Moncada and Tim Anderson to early extensions. They also extended Lance Lynn. Made big free agent signings that all Sox fans went crazy for in Liam Hendrix and Yasmany Grandal. The owner himself even extended Jose Abreu to a 3 yr $50 million dollar deal that the FO was not keen on doing. I'll admit, I didn't think it was a good idea since we had Vaughn. I never heard/read about anyone giving the old man props for that. Ended up being a very good 3 yrs from the MVP Abreu. What I've come to realize is that most not all people here just b**** about anything.

Sox with "plenty of money" left in Jan 15 international pool

Teams really don't back out of verbal agreements. The players "representatives" will prefer to do business elsewhere in the future. That has been stated a few times on podcasts by scouts that do business in Latin America. -

My apologies, you are correct. I follow MLB.com's international rankings and they have ATL's player Luis Guanipa ranked 34th, outside of the 33. At the age of 17, so clearly not signed at 16 meaning, no deal beforehand was in place. -
Crazy, are those deals guaranteed?

Pippen was under a 6 yr contract in 1987, in 1991 he was bitching about being underpaid. So before his first contract was up, they AGREED to a 7yr $18 million deal. He was told at that time by Jerry, not to sign that extension, but he did. The NBA blew up right after and salaries went thru the roof. With the tribune owning the cubs and hating Reinsdorf because he took the Sox off of their TV station WGN and put them on cable tv. Which lead to yrs of bad publicity about him being a cheap owner of the Sox and bulls even though the tribune owned cash cow cubbies got a mulligan. Just a tidbit for you young lads. The first thing the tribune did to get back at Jerry was to hire the Sox fan favorite announcer, by the name of Harry Carey.

So true

We won a world series and we still couldn't catch a last place team in attendance, in our own city.
-
The TRUTH!!
-
Who gives a f*** how much he pays the players? He gave Albert Belle the largest deal in baseball and what did we get out of that? We won a world series in 2005 and we didn't have any large contracts on the books. Everyone also forgets how the Sox had the 5th highest payroll in baseball 2006, 2007 and 2008. I'm guessing this is all before your time. The Sox have offered players over $100 million. They were outbid for Machado and Wheeler decided not to play in front of 7k per game and took less $ to play elsewhere.
-
7th highest payroll in 2022, 2023 season hasn't started yet buddy. As for attendance, what is your excuse for the pathetic numbers before TLR was hired? In 2005 we were still second to the cubs in this city by 10k PER GAME. This might be a large market but we are far from being what the Mets are to the Yankees. Or what the Angels are to the dodgers. A new owner with half a brain would move the team out of town. Hopefully we don't get you all are asking for. GO SOX!

Do the Braves have any of those players signed? They used to be one of the most aggressive players in the international market. They got hit with a scandal also which embarrassed the owner and organization, they were even penalized by MLB. So to say, it's completely BS that an owner wouldn't step in and say something to the international scouts (his employees) about how they do business after embarrassing the organization, is crazy. -

Christian Saez out of Cuba would be a great addition. Turns 16 sometime this yr, left handed first baseman that's 6'3" and hits bombs. What really cripples us is that most of these kids are in agreement with a club illegally at a young age. Ever since the scandal down south Jerry has made sure we play by the book. So the only real chance we got on getting any talent is with cuban players since it's a lot more difficult for scouts to get into Cuba. -
Yeah sell the team, when the owner pays a top 10 payroll in baseball and the weak ass fan base doesn't shop up to any games.
-
Remember when the majority of Sox fans were bitching about the Sox bringing Rodon back in 2021 for $3 million? Now that ended up being a great decision that we will never dare to give hahn or reinsdorf for that matter any credit, right?
-
An owner like him would never buy a team with a non existing fan base. The point of owning is to make $. None of the owners in baseball lose money on purpose just to win. They're rich, not stupid.
-
So you're thinking Jerry made $ last yr? I was at about 10 games last yr. Mainly weekend games, none were sold out.
-
Nimmo's not worth the money. If he's getting paid that much I'd expect more offensive output.
-
I would sign Jayson heyward to be our 4/5th OF. Before u laugh, think about it. You'd be paying the minimum, he is left handed, still plays great defense and great clubhouse guy. When healthy, same if not better BA then bellinger has had the last few yrs. I'd rather have him at the plate or in the OF, instead of leury legend.
-
But yet last year's payroll was about $195 million, smh.

We need to trade Hendrix to improve this team. Not to mention he and tim Anderson might be the only veterans we have that other teams might have interest in. Option#1..Trade hendrix to LA for minor leaguers stone and outman. Outman can man LF (move eloy to DH) and play CF on rest days for Robert. Stone can be groomed for a 2024 rotation spot since giolito and possibly Lynn are gone after 2023 season. Option#2....3 team trade sending Hendrix somewhere and netting Brandon Lowe from the rays (plus a prospect). LH hitting 2nd baseman, a few yrs removed from an mvp type yr. Is on a great contract and currently too pricey for the rays. If this option is done, we would also need to lock up conforto (LF, have to DH eloy) on a 1 yr deal ($15mil?) if healthy. Just an fyi.... We shouldnt sign w.contreras, we do not need another part time catcher.
-
Biggest move they can make is fire TLR. Everyone wanting them to trade just to trade. Why lose some of your younger players for players that aren't going to help this team compete. They can't field, they can't run the bases, they can't hit as a group. This team has some bad MOJO, so why spend possible assets.
-
Sox have been horrible of late drafting high school pitchers, hopefully Shultz changes that. Shouldve drafted Prielipp, imo.
-
Hopefully Prielipp is the choice
-
I agree and I'm ok with that. I never liked paying for past performances but the sox are known to be one of the teams where players gave a home team discount, ala buerhle, konerko, dye but only time will tell if that continues.
