  1. Or, if you sign a DH, that makes Sheets expendable. That brings me back to the rumor last fall that the Orioles were quietly shopping John Means. Of course, Sheets is from Baltimore, and that might make him desirable for them to bring in. The problem here is - Sheets isn't enough to headline such a deal, and I don't see them wanting both Sheets and Vaughn, because that's redundant. But that might be worth kicking the tires on. If you're spending a lot on DH and RF and are pushing the luxury cap, the SP addition needs to be someone a bit younger and cheaper. And they do need a SP. They need SP depth, and they need to be ready to react if Keuchel pushes 160 IP at any point. They can't let that next season vest, even if he's having a comeback season.
  2. I know it's pretty unrealistic to think Jerry would spend that kind of money. But if they want to go for it. Come on Jerry, you're 86 and father time doesn't wait for anyone. Imagine the Sox lineup if you add those 2 left handed studs in? Harrison would be the only chance for an opponent to breath easy.
  3. How about trade Kimbrel for scraps, then sign Conforto for RF, sign Schwarbs for DH/OF fill-in. Then trade Vaughn for a young ML ready pitcher with a nice ceiling. And as someone else said in one of these threads, do not under basically any circumstances trade Vera.
  4. If the Sox signed a Kyle Schwarber, you absolutely would throw him in the middle of the top 6. That's the point, to break up and balance the lineup.
  5. Yeah, he has 2 years left and that probably might cost Vaughn.
  6. The problem with Manaea is he's represented by Boras. So you're not likely to get him to sign a team friendly extension like Lance Lynn did last year. He's probably going to leave after 1 season. You better not pay too much for him.
  7. You have a BWC like hatred for this guy. It's seriously bizarre. He's a fabulous young player. You dont have to mash lots of home runs to be a good baseball player. More at 10!
  8. This is bad. Massive downgrade from Madrigal. And hell, i'd of rather seen them just pick up Hernandez's option. We better see Schwarber, Castellanos or Conforto signed.
  9. I probably would of preferred Tepera, but I like the move.
  10. Since the better 2B options fell off the board before lockout started, McNeil seems like the best available choice. All the better if you can somehow include Kimbrel in a deal.
  11. Oh yeah that's fine. But look at the Rodon deal, at least as far as we know. It's 2 years and 44 mil, with a reported opt out after 1. So if Carlos stays relatively healthy and performs similar to 2021 - he opts out for a big deal elsewhere. If he spends 3/4 of the year on the DL and is what the Sox feared - then he conveniently doesn't opt out and the Giants are stuck paying him for the 2nd season, for him to likely spend most of an additional season on the DL. Why is the risk only being taken by the teams and not then players? It's weird how he gets teams to agree to this crap.
  12. And that's sometimes the problem with Boras client signings. He gets teams to agree to these crazy opt outs. So if the player earns his contract, they opt and leave after 1 year. If the contract blows up in the team's face, then they are stuck with the player and the bad contract for many years. Early opt outs are often lose-lose situations for the teams. I'm ok with the Sox signing Conforto, but I hope they don't paint themselves in to a corner with an opt out that Boras will probably push for.
  13. The great thing is, the Sox can easily vault themselves to the team to beat on paper with a few very doable moves here and there. Will they do it is the question?
  14. Oh crap, you went ahead and went all Aaron Rodgers on us you critical thinker. When the Sox picked up Kimbrel's option, I was fine with it, because I assumed he had a deal in place. I'll still give him the benefit of the doubt that something will get done, and they won't have to eat dollars or give away extra assets to move that deal. But I'm a tad nervous now. I don't want other moves that need to be made this winter compromised because those dollars are tying up Jerry's wallet.

  16. Well Joe Kelly would be fun to have on the team, that's for sure
  17. He's a hall of fame closer, but he's not the same guy that dominated for all those years in Boston and Atlanta. The last 3 seasons he has been hot garbage outside of an amazing first half with the Cubs last year.
  18. I think Kimbrel is garbage and I want him gone.
  19. They didn't need a closer, let alone a bad one. But we're not here to b**** about last year. I want some improvements to this year's team.
  20. What the hell are you talking about? They don't even have a 2nd basemen. Is this person that doesn't exist going to be offended?
  21. Right. The Sox have gotten their asses handed to them in 2 consecutive playoff years. And right now it will take a lot of money spent just to get this team as good as last year on paper, let alone trying to improve the team. And I get it, paper sometimes means nothing. See 2005. But we've come this far in the rebuild. Don't cheap out now when the goal is in sight.
