  1. I hate going down these roads that are unlikely, but.... If the Sox are to sign Cruz, that would likely mean they are picking up a SP for very little cash, right? Because we assume they are getting close to being tapped financially. Burnes makes very little cash. The only problem with this equation is - if Madrigal is in the deal, the Sox would need money for LaStella too.
  2. After sleeping on this a bit, I just don't see the Brewers doing a deal like this, short of a massive overpay. I mean, even if you include Kopech, and Jimmy says the Sox won't.... why does Milwaukee do it? Kopech only has one more year of control left than Burnes has, and is massively unproven compared to Burnes. If you're the Brewers, I wouldn't even consider it unless it was something like Kopech, Madrigral and Kelley for Burnes. And at that point, I probably say no if I'm the Sox.
  3. Yeah, the options are starting to thin out if this deal doesn't happen.
  4. Not surprised. I get a feeling Toronto would have to annihilate the next offer to land a big fish like this.
  5. Is there any concern about his back pain near the end of the season in 2020?
  6. Not sure why they are even considering someone that is chronically injured. Go for Q instead - assuming he's healthy now.
  7. Was that you that said Corbin Burnes could be available? I would wonder why he would be available...but if he, is this a Kopech + Madrigral type return I would assume?
  8. Right...it only really affects anything relevant to us if the team is pushing the luxury tax threshold, which the Sox are not even close to.
  9. How is that different than someone signing a 4 year deal for 54 mil. Then after 2 or 3 years they either suck, or are riddled with injuries and get released? They get their 54 mil still, whether it happened after 1 year, 3 years or they played out their contract. The reality is, he would have to become near useless to not have that 4th year picked up. But that could happen. Those are the risks of a middle aged relief pitcher.
  10. I don't see the Sox moving Eloy to DH. But if they do and he is ok with it, then fine I guess.
  11. I don't see where Benintendi fits on the Sox? I'd rather keep Lopez for relief. He might be really good in that role.
  12. Any player with a guaranteed contract could get the total amount with less years played. The bottom line is, it's a 4yr/54 mil contract, but they have the option of creatively paying the final year off if the contract goes south.
  13. I was at the clinching game in 83, but not any playoff games. Great childhood memories
  14. My God, he's only played 29 games. You act like he's given us years of bad defense.
  15. I think goes back to the food guys saying the Sox have been shopping Madrigal, and let's face it - the food guys have been accurate on just about everything lately. I like Madrigal a lot. But if the Sox move him for a young pitcher, and it leads to a loaded rotation, we'll all live and the chances of the Sox going all the way will be increased.
  16. Hmm, seems odd that Milwaukee would shop Burnes. Not sure I buy that.
  17. Yeah, I replied the poster who replied about this as a Sox need, not to your post.
  18. Yeah, this ship sailed when Eaton was signed.
  19. I think it might be consequential potentially, especially if injuries come up. But if ever there is a time to take on a bit more of a risk than they normally would, it's now. Even if you give him 4 years @ 50 mil. In a normal time, that might not be a great signing. But I think right now it would be a great signing. I keep thinking back to 2016, how Andrew Miller was the ALCS MVP, and Chapman dominated for the Cubs. A shutdown bullpen can take a team really far.
  20. It might be a bad idea. But does anyone else get the feeling the Sox are viewing this as a strict 3 year window to go all out (all out as far as Jerry's wallet will allow at least). And if something blows up in their face, then it does. If you fast forward 3 years, Lynn will likely be gone, Keuchel will be gone, Giolito will be a free agent (barring an extension at some point), La Russa and Reinsdorf are obviously a bit long in the tooth. The next 3 years seems like the prime window, and if they are unwilling to take risks, then they hurt their chances of converting on a World Series trophy.
  21. If the Sox pulled off this miracle, then suddenly their roster is as good as anyone's on paper.
  22. To each his own. I just like that me and my friends talk baseball all winter, which the offseason dragging on allows. The Blackhawks start in less than 2 weeks, and we're talking as much about the Sox as the Hawks at my work. I like not having to shut baseball off ever, like we generally do with other sports.
  23. I enjoy baseball's offseason dragging on. If we had one week of free agency, then 3 months of silence, that would suck IMO.
