I know Boras won't take that. But for a guy who will turn 30 before the allstar break next year, it's hard to imagine anyone offering much more than that. As much as I get on the Sox for being cheap - I wouldn't want them offering Rendon more than that.
-
Not sure. But all the guys that matter for the future of this team seemed to progress very well. I'd be surprised if they pushed him out.
-
Yep, and like 2017, the Sox will pick 11th and the Angels 10th. They got Adell last time, and we got Burger. Let's hope fortunes are reversed this next time.
-
Wasn't he a huge part of Moncada's emergence this year? Do they really want to go there?
-
Honestly I have no idea when Andrew will get here. He needs to dominate A ball before I start making plans for him in Chicago. Another area we might disagree on (not sure) is Nick Madigral. I think he is so opposite of many players in baseball these days, and teams really need guys like him. Watch the Cubs and how their offense gets shutdown so easily because every guy on their team swings for the fences every friggin at-bat. I think/hope he's the kind of guy that can help us have a more consistent offense in the years ahead.
-
Well first of all, if you're trying for starting pitching, why include Kopech or Cease? Your trading an apple for an apple at that point. Beyond that, all 4 guys you listed will be on the Sox all or most of next year. Vaughn might still be a few years out. But hey, if the Sox are going to operate like a small market team(this winter will tell), then they have to do what they have to do.
-
You're not understanding the point. That he is that good of a prospect is why his name is coming up. How else are we going to get a TOR starter? Unless JR shocks us all and signs Strasburg or Cole this winter. Nobody wants to give him away for nothing.
-
I said it above, but I can say it again if you somehow missed it. I think Reinsdorf is too cheap to sign a TOR starter, and that's probably the only other way we're going to get one.
-
I think that has both teams considering it at least, so you're on the right track for what I'm thinking. If a guy has a bit more experience in the show, that would probably fit a bit better from the Sox perspective. But they definitely would want a guy with plenty of control or on a good contract. I think it's something worth exploring. And it's not that I don't want to keep Vaughn. I just think an arm that likely fills a #1 or #2 spot in our rotation is a need that must be filled. And doing a trade like this would leave plenty of money to lock up Moncada and Giolito longterm, plus fill DH and RF.

Not bad, I predicted 9th at the beginning of this thread when most thought top 5. I'm happy with this result. A top 5 pick would have meant not getting the positive development out of our young rebuild guns like we've gotten. This is a way better result for the Sox and their future.

I'm sorry, but no to bringing in damaged goods. Too risky. The reality is, the top free agent starting pitchers probably won't sign here this winter. And I don't think it's that the Sox aren't an attractive destination. Chicago is a great city and the Sox are one of the brightest young teams in baseball. I just think our owner is a cheapskate. I'm sensing that Rick Hahn is throwing out little hints already to cover for the coming cheapness this winter. He keeps slipping in comments that rebuilds are longer than 3 years and more growing pains are ahead of us. AKA, the Sox might be 'on the cheap' once again this winter. And really, the rebuild should be over after tomorrow. Rich Hahn should hold a press conference tomorrow after the game and declare the rebuild is over and the White Sox want to win the World Series next year. They should plug the oh so obvious holes and try to win 90-100 games next year. But that would require them acting like a big market team, and they seem to prefer pretending they are the Tamp Bay Rays, Pittsburgh Pirates or San Diego Padres. Oh wait... So that all said, and I apologize for the long winded post - I really think there's a high chance the Sox dangle Andrew Vaughn this winter for a top young arm. That might the only path towards qcquiring a good SP that Jerry's bank account will agree with.
-
Well yeah...I don't get your point? Because any pitcher can get injured, you therefore want to bring in the one already breaking down?
-
Sorry, but your post doesn't make sense. All free agents are risks...that's part of playing that game. But the other guys aren't in the process of breaking down right now as Chris Sale is. It's not even close to the same. Not all guys come back 100% from injuries. Many don't.
-
No I wouldn't do that. Chris Sale is on the wrong side of 30 and has a ton of miles on his arm. I wouldn't feel confident that the old Chris Sale would ever return.
-
I don't think Chris Sale wouldn't come here. But why would we want that contract? I mean, who is going to be surprised if early next year it's announced that he needs tJ surgery? You can almost smell it coming. I love Chris Sale and all he did for us, but that's a hard pass on trading for him.
-
I'd like to see a more aggressive approach towards acquiring a #1 or #2 starter. If Jerry is too cheap to sign one, then maybe explore if trading Andrew Vaughn could bring one back.
-
Quintana for Colome and Dunning. Which side says no? I'm thinking the Cubs say no, if only because Theo won't want to stir up crap about the Eloy trade.
-
It would be a reversal of everything he has done in the past. But Jerry turns 84 before next season starts. If he wants to win another World Series, signing Gerrit Cole is probably the best path to take to accomplish that. Rich Hahn keeps saying the money will be there. Now it's put up or shut up time. The money being there for a #3 starter means nothing. Are we trying to win the World Series, or just trying to be a pretty good team? Chicago is a big market. It's time for them to act like a big market team and not like the Pittsburgh Pirates. Not signing a #1 puts a ton of pressure on Kopech, Cease and Giolito to all pan out at their best case scenario, which of course is unlikely.

Cooper discouraged by social media negativity

I don't pay attention to Sox stuff on twitter or facebook. So I'm not really sure what he speaks of. Here on soxtalk and another message board I post on...I think Sox fans have been remarkably forgiving considering much of the incompetence over the last 10 years. The last 10 years have been so bad, that they should be grateful that there's still people out there who care. -
Maddon's handling of the bullpen in 2016 was some of the worst managing I've ever seen. That team won the World Series despite him, not because of him.
-
Sports leagues can fix it if they want to. Just throw all non playoff teams names in to a hat and randomly pick the draft order. Stop rewarding teams that lose on purpose. But they won't do that for some reason.
-
I wouldn't want Maddon. He has 'smartest guy in the room' syndrome. He might be the only guy I'd rather keep Ricky over.
-
It was a talking point while he wasn't getting signed. The draft pick compensation, combined with his diminished effectiveness later in 2018.

And That's an Unexpected White Sox Winner !

Moncada has struck out 6 times in the last 2 games, and his average has still gone up. Great season for him. -
If he starts killing it next year, then they're going to play the same service time games that they played with Eloy and Robert. I'd start him at high A and move him up when he dominates.
