They did the right thing not bringing him back in the 7th. He was getting hit really hard in the 6th. You let him end his day feeling good and go from there. If he had come back out in the 7th and got bombed, people here would of been calling for Ricky's head.

I wouldn't be interested in any deal that moves Cease, Dunning or Kopech. Heck not even Hansen given his deflated value right now. Don't want to sell low on anybody.

Or they could sign them to extensions at some point and render this whole debate about service time moot.

I think the culture in baseball has changed since then. For prospects, there's more of an emphasis on hitting than pitching, even when compared to just 4 or 5 years ago.

I was at the game on Sunday and there were tons of Toronto fans that helped fill the park up. Their fans travel well apparently.

And of course I agree that Gleyber's value right now is a lot higher than Jimenez's was before he was traded. I think Eloy was hitting .271 at the time of the trade. He's been a freak since then. In a good way of course

Yeah, whatever the perceived values are. I can't imagine any Sox fan being willing to trade Eloy straight up for Gleyber. The superstar potential is just too enormous. As for Rodon. I'd really hate to move him. That would definitely be a step back in the rebuild. But if him and Boras aren't willing to play ball on an extension (and only the Sox know this answer), then you have to listen to potential offers.

I think we all could use Eloy returning and going on a tear for about a month. Restore our great feelings about the rebuild, which has been bruised a bit with all these injuries.

Imagine Arenado and Eloy back to back in the order. Good grief. Yes I'd do it with an extension.

I didn't say flipping is the most important part and I'm not sure why you're implying that I did. I just wish they had made an effort at acquiring flippable assets last winter. I'm not wasting my time going through the guys who were available and what they could of signed for. There's plenty of guys that are flip candidates every winter. Again, I don't know the Sox reasons for not doing that. They might have been purposely keeping the team bad for another high pick. It might of been to save cash. Or it might have been to keep roster spots clear for the young guys. It probably was a bit of all 3 and maybe more.

Theo is probably considered the master in baseball at rebuilds. What is one of his big hallmarks for rebuilds? To acquire flippable assets. He does this over and over. That's what I was talking about that should have been done last winter. I'm not sure why you have trouble understanding this? But you have to spend some money to do that. The guys the Sox acquired last winter were all garbage reclamation projects on the cheap. Yes sometimes those types of signings or acquisitions do work out. But usually they don't. And we're all going to the results of them not doing that this past winter when the trading deadline comes. And the 'rebuild experts' like yourself will be scratching your heads wondering why the Sox can't get anything decent back in trades.

And that's the big thing that kept getting said when the Sox started their rebuild. That no team has ever started a rebuild with the massive amount of assets to sell-off to kick-off their rebuild like the Sox did. And that it should lead to a shorter rebuild than other recent teams. Now, I'm not blaming anyone for injuries which have ravaged most of our top prospects in recent months. That's just bad luck. But I also think it's time to move on some things this coming winter. I think a bigger effort to sign potentially flippable assets could have been made this past winter. I don't know if their motive was to save money, keep roster spots clear for the yutes, or if they were planning on tanking for a top 5 pick again. Only Hahn, Kenny and JR know what their true intentions were. But in any event, IMO it's time for Jerry to get the checkbook out this winter. If they have another winter of leaving gaping holes, going in to the season with an atrocious bullpen...they're going to start losing a lot of the fans that have supported the rebuild.

I agree with everything you're saying. I'm just saying that however one wants to label these rebuilds, the goalposts need to be in the same place for both sides of the arguments. Which they weren't in the post I quoted.

Why would you mention 2010 for the Cubs? Theo wasn't hired until after the 2011 season. They weren't rebuilding in 2010-11, they were just inept. And if we are counting back and including inept years and not just rebuild years, then the Sox go back a lot farther than 2 seasons.

Doesn't look good. But it's the same injury, so I'll pause before calling him fragile. The Sox probably should just accept that he's done this year. Make sure his thumb is 100% healed going in to next year and go from there.
