  1. Holding them back a few extra weeks is a bit different than for 2/3 of a season. I'm all for bringing them up when they are ready. But if that still has not come to Chicago by spring training next year, then yes, at that point I absolutely will be all for leaving them down for those extra couple of weeks.
  2. I think he stays, but you gotta keep him on shorter term deals due to his age. But we don't need every guy on the team to be 24 years old.
  3. Obviously people want Machado for his stick. So assuming he insists on playing SS with any team he signs with. Who then do the Sox target this winter?
  4. Yeah. As this draft has come down towards the end, it feels like that #4 pick is a lot better than #5. I'd be jacked with either Bohm or Madrigral. Now watch the Sox take Singer.
  5. That's where signing them to one of them Eaton/Sale/Quintana type contracts comes in. Or you hope at least.
  6. Speaking of rushed. The Nationals promoted Juan Soto from AA today. He is 19 still.
  7. Well said. Dick Allen is ignoring their development and seems to be 100% focused on contractual control of these guys. I don't think that's how the Sox should approach this.
  8. The old Sox that used to rush prospects would have brought both of them up last year when they were tearing up the minors. They have both shown they are pretty much ready, so bringing them up at any point going forward would not be rushing IMO.
  9. Interesting that 3 of the 4 bottom teams are teams that share large markets and they are the lesser team in those markets (in terms of popularity).
  10. There's nothing wrong with filling a spot or two of the rotation with guys from free agency or trades. The biggest thing the Sox need to try to do is fill the top 2 spots of the rotation from within. It remains to be seen if that will come from these guys we have now. That's why I would be cool with it if they picked a SP with the #4 selection next month. If they do take a SP, and many of these guys do blossom as we hoped, then they have an awesome tradable asset if worse comes to worse. There's no downside to possibly having too much pitching.
  11. It's weird how this team went from so enjoyable top watch in year 1 of the rebuild...to this in year 2 of the rebuild.
  12. Obviously you don't over-react to one bad night. But IMO, in a system with few needs, SP is probably the biggest need. And that was already the case before last night. You have to expect/assume some busts or injuries will derail some of these guys. Another top notch SP prospect would be very ideal. I don't want Singer though.
  13. No I didn't intend to imply that. Just pointing out that it is possible to keep this thing together even if several of these guys reach their potential. I fully expect them to try to get more contracts like this done. Reynaldo Lopez looks like the best early candidate at this point.
  14. The Sox are going to need to gamble and offer some of these guys Sale/Quintana/Eaton type contracts. I doubt the Jimenez's or Moncada's will take them, but the pitchers very well might in fear of arm injuries. If you get a few to take them and get some cost certainty with that, that probably allows you to pay 1 or 2 of the others the big money when the time comes.
  15. We just have to hope/assume that they will do what it takes to keep these guys when the time comes. I mean, they did hold on to Frank until very late in his career. There's no precedence to suggest that the Sox will act like the Pirates or A's and sell them off when they get expensive.
  16. This....who exactly wants them called up for instant gratification? Other than Greg maybe, who hasn't been part of this thread today.
  17. Yeah...he's taking people's posts out of context to suit his argument.
  18. I haven't seen anyone indicate keeping Eloy down would hurt his development.
  19. I agree with this. Also at the end of that article in the Athletic, it makes it sounds like the trade from the Cubs still stings him a little bit. With him saying AA is not challenging him, I don't know how you can't move him up to AAA immediately and then go from there.
  20. https://theathletic.com/349056/2018/05/10/how-is-the-eloy-jimenez-deal-working-out-for-the-white-sox-quite-well-thanks/ Article just posted to the Athletic, mostly on Eloy, but based off how the Q trade is working out so far. Among other things, Eloy says about Birmingham : He’s too good for Double-A, a level Jiménez says is not easy, but also “is not challenging me.”
  21. I'm not comfortable with messing with Eloy. He's our future more than anyone. Unless he gets to the point of being Schwarber or Delmonico bad in LF (and from what I understand, he's not even close to them), then I say just leave him there.
  22. It feels like the Sox are getting some bad luck with where their their picks fall. Last year year it felt like the draft dropped off significantly at the Sox pick (#11), which led to the underslot pick of Jake Burger. This year, as has been indicated here and elsewhere, there probably isn't a big difference between #4 and #11. That was a great article and I thank you for the super read!
  23. I don't know what's been said. I assumed since his injury was mid to late last year that we wouldn't see him until 2019.
