  1. My guess is that the White Sox and the city announce the project, JR cashes out with a deal similar to Angelos in Baltimore for tax purposes, and he has little to nothing to do with the design, and all.
  2. And then we'll all get cancer and die, and one day a meteor will hit the Earth and make it unlivable for human life, so no one will even ever remember or know we were here. Jeez, dude, if you're just going to be glum about everything, carry it through to the end.
  3. I'm hitting a sore spot with some people, and I'll stop. The whole story feels a little heavy handed, and sounds like a million other "mayor is too inexperienced to be effective, but skillfully runs crime wave with iron fist" BS I've heard for 60 years.
  4. And I don't remember this woman assaulting people she didn't know. I'm pretty sure Ligue had some words for the arresting officers. I sure hope they bring this teacher to justice. She sounds real dangerous, and worthy of a lot of overtime.
  5. I think that Lenyn Sosa should get a fair shot at starting innings. He's always taken a bit to master a level. The bat's there, he's supposedly got a good glove, so it's sink or swim for him, at this point. I think Colas needs a little more TLC and intensive coaching, and that has to happen in AAA. Jirschele is supposed to be an amazing managerial prospect, so get him and our roving outfield guy working with him to get him to his sink or swim month in the majors.
  6. And everybody jumping up to high five each other that it was a teacher who lived outside of Chicago. I'm shocked that the guy who knew the guy who knew the guy on the CPD didn't also know the teacher was collecting food stamps illegally, and sharing the money with Pastor Jeremiah Wright and the Jackie Robinson West Little League team. I don't remember people bending themselves into pretzel shapes to link up William Ligue to Mayor Daley, and hearing from a guy who knew a guy in the electrician's union that he was a 10th ward precinct captain under Vrdolyak.
  7. I have. I've lived in Chicago my whole life, and have heard many rumors from people who "know a guy who knows a guy in the CPD", or "know a fireman", or whatever. Most of them somehow link to Jesse Jackson, Oprah, Harold Washington, or some other famous black person. Excuse me if I don't suspend all doubt and jump in both feet first on this one.
  8. I guess it's so much more plausible that one or more people stood up, sprayed bullets into the crowd in the left field bleachers, hit a few people, but nobody saw or heard them. Maybe somebody fired a couple shots 20 years from now, and it went through a hole in time.
  9. What's the point? "No comment" leaves open the silly notion that GMs are panicky dweebs who fall to their knees in tears at the first piece of bad news, but Getz is too honorable to say so. It's a silly question that deserves to be shut right down.
  10. And I'm wrong. Reading another article, they only come down with about 10% of the velocity they went up with, but 300 feet per second (330 km/hr) is still enough to pierce a skull. https://www.abc.net.au/science/k2/homework/s95523.htm#:~:text=A bullet is fired at,the downward suck of gravity.
  11. Because somebody stuck a microphone in his face and asked him the question?
  12. Not really "magic bullets". It's not infrequent. https://science.howstuffworks.com/question281.htm#:~:text=If you fire a gun,apogee%2C the bullet will fall.
  13. Now, you can have a good consortium on whether Lenyn Sosa can wear his hat cocked, or how Jordan Leasure jogs in from the bullpen.
  14. People are hit all the time from guns being shot up in the air. Those bullets come down with the same velocity they went up. It's not implausible.
  15. That's a lot of character veterans to keep an eye on Colas.
  16. Enough with the ex-Angels, already. But I guess that's the lefty power bat everyone craves. Maybe he can play right field.
  17. Ozzie really hung Dunn out to dry, just to show up KW, then quit on the team in 2011. I didn't mind Ozzie as a manager, but really wasn't a fan of the clown show. Maybe he'd get along better with Getz, but there are so many other manager candidates....
  18. He will teach them the secret. And Fletcher will teach them luck.
  19. I think the case has always been that Reinsdorf doesn't have a problem spending when they look competitive. Under Hahn, they've just made stupid spending decisions. Getz seems a bit more measured than Hahn. I don't doubt that once they trade Cease, Robert, Soroka, maybe Kopech, Eloy, Crochet, and they get their top 5-10 prospects plugged on the big club, they'll spend again.
  20. I'm also guessing that MLB is guiding the A's away from a couple targeted expansion cities, too, like Nashville and Portland, OR. Even tho it's a small market, I think anchoring a team in Vegas locks in some gambling dollars.
  21. I don't know who would want to spend a year or two in a rebuilding year that isn't even a rebuilding year. It's the gut year of a gut rehab. It's like living in an apartment while they pull down walls, you piss in the sink, and you hope they figure out tarping for when the outside wall is gone. I think that if a dude's 32, has talent, he might want to make sure he's in a pennant race from the get go. He doesn't want to ride the bench of a dumpster fire, just hoping against hope he gets enough quality time to shine and get traded to a team who is really competing. I think the call from Chris Getz is the pink message slip his agent puts in his hip pocket, and exhausts all other opportunities, first. Therefore, if you're saving money for an impact player, I can't fathom how much of a premium it would take for a guy to tell the Twins, or Mariners, Reds, Cubs - to take a hike, and pull his pud while Pedrol Grifol pulls his pud figuring sh*t out. I hate the dour, but I don't think we have the same player pool available to us that the D-backs do, right now. Or, we pay list, while everyone else gets to negotiate.
  22. I think Grandal had a hit tool, and was a good framer when they signed him. I almost wonder if Hahn had become self-conscious, reading the blogs, or whatnot. Grandal was the framing OG, but he didn't seem to do much of anything else well behind the plate. All of that went away after his first year. Stassi and Perez would have worked.
  23. I seem to remember that Mendick could cover SS better than Sosa could. However, Lopez being on the roster makes him a logical backup to SS. I just think if Sosa started hitting, he becomes your starting 2B.
