  1. They needed Senzel's 40 man slot. I suppose they could have put Drew Thorpe on the 60-day IL if they knew about his situation then.
  2. Twitter and other outlets have people talking about Brooks Baldwin being injured, wearing a brace on his wrist, and possibly being "done" for the year. I suppose Amaya was picked up because Getz thought there might be some interest in anybody picking up Nicky Lopez on waivers, and Amaya is the only other person on the ML roster who plays SS. If Lopez does get claimed, do they bring up Monty? Or if Baldwin goes on the IL, do they bring up Remillard or Mendick? Shewmake is on the IL, so we're dodging a meteor, there. Enquiring minds want to know.
  3. There's a long history of society deciding "how other people should raise their kids". If you believe the studies that show these results are BS, then you probably have no real credibility to evaluate your own reactions or your child's to "punishment". Why is there embarrassment? And are you so sure the first reaction is a logical connection to one's behavior? I got hit with a strap, bare-assed as a kid, and yes, I consider that sexual abuse. Because it is. Not that my Dad was a molester; he was a great guy, I trusted and still love him. But A + B = C. It's abuse that's sexual in nature, therefore, it's sexual abuse. Because sometimes the "spanking" was enraged, disproportionate, and seemingly random, I went a long time, as a kid, not understanding why I was always in trouble at school, and around authority. It was beneath my parents to explain themselves to me, because a parent doesn't have to explain themselves; the kid should respect the parent, and it's nobody else's business, anyway. Sound familiar? I think a big part of this disagreement is crossing the line of "if this is abuse, then my parents were abusers". One can still admit that one's parents did something unhealthy (which was/is accepted and legal), and still love, understand and respect them. There is no dichotomy. If you give your kid a swat or two because he won't stop acting out, sure, that's still legal. It's also legal for some of us to think that's very unhealthy, express that, and try to change the law to reflect current, societal thinking.
  4. It finally dawns upon me that they DFAed Senzel to get Amaya on the 40 man, but he wouldn't be able to get to the ballpark in time for the game, so they called up Ramos for a day to have 26 men. The move isn't as silly as it sounds, but Ramos should be starting at 3B for the Sox.
  5. If two estranged parents disagree about physical discipline, yeah, it could be problematic if one parent ignores the other's wishes.
  6. I'd be happy for the Sox to announce they reupped Mike Soroka for a year, and in the announcement, say, "We're doing this to ensure we will never sign Mike Clevinger again."
  7. I could certainly explain it away as Getz seeing a guy who might need a slight tweak to become a .300/.400/.500 hitter. But I don't think that's Amaya, and that's not the White Sox at this time. This is more disappointing than enraging. Maybe Amaya is a better Sosa, in theory. Ramos should be the starting 3B right now. I'd actually flip Ramos and Vargas, let Vargas find whatever he needs to find at Charlotte.
  8. Got it. I'm guessing Senzel was in anticipation of more moves at the trade deadline. Senzel couldn't be optioned, and Amaya replaces Ramos at AAA.
  9. Bryan Ramos is raking at AAA. I'm not sure why bringing him up to the parent club and DFAing Senzel is a bad move. They should also drop Bush back to AAA and maybe get another look at Nastrini. Have an extra bullpen arm until Bush's slot comes up again. I don't get Jacob Amaya, but maybe it's just to have a body at AAA to replace Ramos. Again, I don't see how parking a warm body at AAA is an example of "being bad at his job".
  10. Maybe those are the scouts they're paying to not scout, right now.
  11. I'd flip him with Vargas, give Vargas a week or so to calm down and get whatever he had, back.
  12. I'm sorry, did I somehow wreck a Gavin Sheets trade by anticipating it? LOL. He's a lefty bench bat, which is what I've been calling him all year. I'm not sure why calling him a guy who has value makes you angry.
  13. I don't see anywhere in that article where he promised a .500 team. He talked about acquiring players who could eventually be part of a winning team, and they have to make moves to try to get better.
  14. Again, the guy who declares every move a disaster calls the Vargas and Fletcher trades ....... disasters. LOL. I'd hope you're basing this on something more than 68 plate appearances. You know, a small sample size? I would hope you're posting the same thing multiple times a day across multiple threads in the service of an agenda. If you honestly can't remember the previous 9 times you pronounced the current Gavin Sheets hot streak over, or that you're crying, laughing so hard at Chris Flexen not being traded, that could be a problem.
  15. I remember Getz saying he didn't like this team over the winter, or at the beginning of spring training. I don't remember him declaring the White Sox would win 81 games.
  16. I'm not living in fantasyland, either. You keep imagining I'm thinking or saying things I'm not. You seem to have a beef with an idealized version of me who is claiming that Getz is doing the best job in all of baseball, and that their w-l record is actually inverted. If Getz turns around and trades Crochet this offseason for a package centered around Eloy, or something like that, I might start judging him poorly. He's a new GM who was left a shitshow. He's made a few mistakes, and made some good moves. There's an agenda here where a small bunch of people don't want anyone to develop the idea that Getz might actually be moving the organization in a positive direction.
  17. Then I hope you talk to a professional about this so it doesn't ruin the next 10 years of your life.
  18. Who cares? My Met-fan friends are often happy when I'm with them, and we have a good time. They don't spend our time together being inconsolable about 1962.
  19. Nobody has a problem accepting that JR is old, doesn't want to start all over with a bunch of strangers, so he hired Getz, said some BS he didn't even believe, and then went back to work trying to get Illinois to give him free money. I never even went back to listen to the press conference. I don't care what Reinsdorf said. Getz is saying the organization needs to be overhauled, they need to bring people in from outside to immerse themselves in the current trends, etc. Getz is the GM. He is saying the right things. This is a lost season. I'd rather they didn't break the Mets' record, but it won't change my life one way or the other.
  20. W-L records don't matter this year, until they do. While I find it frustrating, I don't take on some deep level of humiliation that you appear to. I hope you get over it.
  21. Bowden is roundly dismissed as an idiot. You can tell me as many times as you need to that your opinion is that Getz sucks. You can also punctuate it with the lockdown thing I said once in spring training. I'm not going to jump on that bandwagon because I'm angry about a press conference a year ago. I don't know what JR told Getz to do. Neither do you. Whereas a bunch of people here make up their own reality about Getz's thinking, I get to believe there's a reasonable explanation for the weird decisions around this club.
  22. Don't bother. I'm not trying to "prove" that Getz hosed all of baseball in the Fedde trade.
  23. Well, having managed people in my life, and having taken over other managers' messes, I understand giving the people who report to me some guidance, and seeing if they can be untracked. It seems to me he started his vision with the pitching situation, hired his guy, implemented his system, and brought in a bunch of cheap projects to try it out on.
