  1. Tristan Gray was the 2B. I know it wasn't Hackenberg's fault, but I believe he took the error on the play. It felt like the scene in Vacation where the camera pans the car trip, back seat, everyone's asleep, front seat, passenger, then Chevy Chase zonked out like a light.
  2. Old ex alert: (I just hummed his name to Macarena, and fucked my brain for the day), but Donovan's Lalena came to save the day.
  3. Okay, I guess my very pedestrian recap of yesterday's game (you can still cue it up and watch it on MLB.com) would be as follows: 1) We have 2 exciting pitching prospects in Schultz and Hagen Smith. Rodon comps are bouncing around for Hagen. Much smarter people than me have broken down their outings in this very string. 2) Sean Burke looked fine, as did Bryce Wilson. I'm not concerned about our starting pitching. 3) Steven Wilson threw a clean inning. If his DFA made the Cease trade look worse, this outing makes it look better. 4) Eric Adler is a guy who has some buzz as a future closer. I would have liked him to have not walked 2 batters to create the clutter that enabled Hackenberg's Folly in the 9th. 5) Concerning Burke, I would have liked him to put away Oscar Gonzalez in the 2nd, rather than an 11 pitch at-bat culminating in hard contact. But looking up Gonzalez, the Yankees took him off waivers from the Guardians during the 23-24 off-season, then the Padres signed him as a free agent this last November. Watching that at-bat, I'd think a guy like this should have been Getz's first priority over Austin Slater. Where are our scouts? Did this guy web-stalk some teammate's baby mama? 6) Tristan Gray, Andre Lipcius and Joey Gallo are here to hit. They didn't. 7) I'm kind of surprised at Gray and Jacob Gonzalez falling asleep on that 9th inning stolen base (Hackenberg's Folly). Bone-head play that Gonzalez should have been running laps for after the game. Fielding is Gonzo's carrying skill. If he can't even do that, he's toast. 8 ) I'm wondering how much weight last year's record has on this spring. Everybody says they've turned the page, etc. But plays like Lee's (I know errors happen, and it's early) just feel like they're pressing. 9) Meidroth - I have nothing to say. He's a baseball player; he looked like a baseball player in the field. He hit a high fastball to right field. I was told he can't hit the high stuff. Maybe that was someone else. 10) Circus Vargus. I want this guy to break out so bad. I want him to want to break out so bad. Life comes at you fast. So do baseballs. I was up at 6:00 am this morning. I hope Vargas is, taking grounders this morning. 11) Please hit some baseballs.
  4. Looking at Benintendi, his splits also seem to be pretty much historically neutral. I sure hope Fuller sees something magical in Austin Slater to unlock.
  5. And if "diminished skills" is a thing, why not throw in a clause that starts deferring money if production slips under a certain level for a prolonged period?
  6. Also, let it be noted: Left-handed hitting Mike Tauchman his his HR off of the left-handed pitching Ryan Och.
  7. Why don't you do the first one? Or does Scrooge McDuck have to keep his money pool overflowing?
  8. Martin Perez next up vs. The Guardians tomorrow.
  9. Sun-Times post-game notes: Clean starts for White Sox' prized lefty prospects Noah Schultz, Hagen Smith - Chicago Sun-Times
  10. At least there's no no-hit or perfect game drama today.
  11. Kinda shitty to interview Noah's dad during his one inning. Let the guy watch.
  12. Korey Lee showing Vargas how it's done.
  13. I'd like to see Burke be able to put Gonzalez away, there. Two hard hit balls.
  14. You don't think that baseball has a lot more fundamentals tied to the existence of bases that require extensive drilling? And that hitting is the hardest endeavor in all of sports?
  15. And while they're probably schlubs who are only delaying their next careers, curious to see if Alec Makarewicz and Lyle Miller-Green are actual hitters, or just college wonders.
  16. The Sox are also stock-piling OFs in A-ball. Zavala, Wolkow and Casey Saucke at Winston-Salem, and Montgomery, McLain, McConnell and McCants at Kanny. Looking for a breakout or two.
  17. I believe he listed out people who will "make starts" this year. Thorpe will probably start the season on rehab. There will be double-headers. There will be trades. There will be injuries and fatigue. I'd say 13-14 pitchers made "starts" for the Sox last year. (non-bullpen games)
  18. Perhaps he made up an example that was indicative of the complaints so as not to single out a person for their inane BS.
  19. That said, I'm going to proclaim Getz's brilliance in acquiring Teel based on that one simulated game homer off of Sasaki today. More of that, please.
  20. I think Cali is defending Venable for his answer, and then asking who else should get PAs at 3rd. He doesn't seem to be saying to cut Vargas.
