Ohtani Watch: Dodgers sign - 700M over 10yrs
WestEddy replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This all just seems like a floating opt-out for Ohtani. He wants to play for the Dodgers. If there's a change in ownership, the opt-out just ensures him meetings with the brass for them to pitch their vision. And if new ownership decides to "rebuild", they'd most probably want Ohtani to opt out, and take his deferred $68 million payments elsewhere. -
On an Orioles' board that is similar to this, a person named "interloper" says: And on Twitter, there's a lot of "Just go out and trade for Cease, already" from various other teams' fans. I think Cease will be traded, and I believe he will bring back a Chris Sale type deal (2 top 100, 2 middling prospects). https://forum.orioleshangout.com/forum/2-orioles-talk/

There's no need to argue Royals just don't understand

I don't understand why MLB doesn't just create a streaming service like Netflix. Allow live action, and allow the watching of each game with commercials, or offer that shortened "plays only" option that NFL does. I watch a couple games a year, and I would probably subscribe if I could throw on a game when the wife falls asleep. Or go back and watch a series. Even the garbage the White Sox threw on the field in 2023 would be better than some of the TV shows we're choking our way through.

Jung Hoo Lee faced Erick Fedde 8 times in 2023. Singled twice, struck out twice. So he can hit .250/.250/.250 against an established, top tier major league pitcher. https://mykbostats.com/

That's what I've figured all along. His drop-off doesn't look injury related, just strange mechanics that can be worked on.
-
I think it was probably the infighting between the two. That and Hahn wanted to quit a couple years ago, and it really looks like he was just trying to get fired.

MLBTR chat, Steve Adams said: I couldn't see a contending Orioles deciding on a Kopech project during this window, but I could see somebody picking up Kopech and parking him in the bullpen for a season.
-
Just following the MLBTR chat, and Steve Adams said this: I tend to agree. It looks like a lot of juggling just to buy 40-man slots. It's all fun, but Kelenic is still a lotto ticket, at this point.

This is a great point. If they suck, DFA them, and you're on the hook for that season's salary. DFA Leury, and you're paying him for two or three.

Chicago Cubs Offseason Outlook brought to to you by Caulfield
WestEddy replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I only care about what the Cubs do in the way I care what other clubs do, and how it affects the White Sox. I'm not sure if this thread is a criticism of people who are constantly trying to measure up against the Cubs, or people who complain about those who constantly try to measure up against the Cubs. Or the one guy named up front who threatens to go be a Cub fan. -
Back in the 90s, my brother let his 9-year-old and a friend walk up to the concourse and to the gift shop alone, and we thought he was crazy.
-
Yes. I started out as a Cub fan (northwest sider), but became more enamored of the Sox between 71-74.

I think that KW/Hahn's bad decisions, coupled with a miser's approach to advanced coaching and statistical methods - made additional signings look like throwing good money after bad. When Alex Rios and Adam Dunn were stinkin' up the joint, I'm guessing JR balked at adding to that core. If we have a well-built team (which we haven't really had since the 90s), I believe Reinsdorf would at least start adding the $25 million a year players.

My dad always hated Santo for yelling at Don Young after Young made a couple errors in a key, late-season game against the Mets. I think my dad pretty much had a problem with any baseball player. He thought they were all prima donnas, and anytime I expressed excitement about any player, my dad was sure to let me know what jerks they probably were. I liked Santo as a kid. I think he belonged in the HOF.

Yeah, Marco Gonzalez wouldn't be a move to compete. It's a move to keep Jesse Scholtens out of the rotation, and perhaps have a guy to tweak and flip, though I think we throw that concept around pretty freely. I want to be positive about Soroka, but he could end up being 3rd inning mop up by the end of April. I've always felt Getz has to stock-pile 10-12 rotation arms between AAA and the big club.
-
With Chris Getz and AA basically having an open line between them, I'm surprised the White Sox weren't in on Marco Gonzalez. I still think they're a couple of warm bodies away from a finished rotation. It seems this whole offseason is about stock-piling capable options who won't be blocking anybody.
-
And if the clubhouse was such a house of horrors, just removing a bit of the negativity might get everybody pushing in the same direction.
-
I guess I'm being argumentative with this, but if Benintendi is playing 2 bWAR baseball, why trade him? We have no OF depth, he's not blocking anybody, and that's probably fair value for his contract.
-
The Marlins just bought Christian Bethancourt's contract from the Guardians. He was picked off of waivers from the Rays. Looks like a week of catcher musical chairs.
-
No significance to the tweeter, I just wanted to get this sentiment on the board.

That's what I was talking about. Guys like Severino, Manaea or Flaherty. Frankie Montas. If Lance Lynn is worth $10 million, these guys look like 2/25 or 3/40 candidates.
