2 pitchers who should be in the 2025 rotation were in the system, developed, but injured at the beginning of 2024. Jonathan Cannon did step into the rotation and looked solid. Yeah, I guess it's bad Getz couldn't take a bunch of schlubs and turn them into a 100 win team overnight.
-
The funniest part is when you guys pretend that Getz was left with a 60+ win team. Coming out of the 2023 season, they had no pitching rotation. They had no bullpen. I'm not sure how you hear that anybody's "blaming" KW and Hahn for that. They were fired in August. I guess it's self-validating to pretend that you would have gone out there and forced the best players in the league to take less money to play for your team. LOL. Getz took over a husk of a 60 win team.

He's in "people who don't hate Getz must... always....be .....wrong about everything!!!!" mode. I'm not sure what he's even arguing. I suppose "fluffing" is next in the arsenal.

Yeah, and you trotting it back out is as silly as when he wrote it. I know you dream of a core as great as Mike Caruso and Jaime Navarro to build around. Their pythagorean had them as a low-mid 70 win team from 97-99. They rebuilt their pitching staff and started seeding in rookies like Ordonez, Cameron and Lee. Again, I'm not sure why this simple truth makes you want to argue nonsense.
-
I think you're talking about Yolmer Sanchez, and he's Venezuelan. Yolbert Sanchez was Cuban. We got him away from a commitment to Baltimore. Yolbert was older, and more "polished". EDIT: nevermind.

Are you really going to dig in and argue about this? Nobody is saying they completely tanked, traded anything of value and started from scratch in 1997. But they did hit a lull where the 1994 team was dead. They rebuilt the pitching staff and offense from within, when that stalled 2003-2004, they added Contreras and Garcia in 2004, and the big 3 before the 2005 season. Only Thomas and Durham were really left from the 93-94 teams by 1999. Again, I'm not even really sure what you're arguing.
-
The 2005 team wasn't assembled in 30 minutes, as some would have you believe. The top 4 players in bWAR were in the organization for years.
-
Yeah, that's how the minor leagues work.
-
I guess facts are funny, that way. Three players didn't pick the team up and carry them to the championship. If you believe that, maybe that's why you think facts are so funny.

Industry people are probably scouts or other teams' personnel who saw Montgomery for a week during the season, a couple of times. I would think the White Sox have a better feel for where Monty will end up than the Cleveland A-ball manager. Or whomever.
-
I'm not sure where you're going with this. My point was that the only scouting group that seems to have had success in the last few years is the amateur scouting for the draft. They probably had full work-ups on Teel and Montgomery. It has been discussed previously that Eloy's goofball tendencies were probably known in the Cubs org, and they were happy to include him in the Quintana deal, just as Boston held onto Devers and let Yoan go.
-
Thanks for posting that podcast. Will give it a listen.

When Hahn was trading for top 5 in the game prospects, I'm wondering how well guys like Eloy and Yoan were scouted. Teel and Montgomery were scouted by the FO group that has not embarrassed themselves in the last few years, amateur scouting.

I'm 61, so calm down. No, YOU got really lucky to live during a time that Jerry Reinsdorf put together a championship MLB team, and 6 NBA titles. The concept of "tanking" is relatively new. Before, a team just got bad, tried to appease vocally negative fans by making bad moves that chased after an extra win or two, and stayed bad. Reinsdorf owned the team when Larry Himes started climbing out of a 69-92 hole in 1989. They drafted and signed their way out of that. Schueler added a few key pieces, and built that 1993 team. That's what you kids would call a rebuild today. When they hit 75-86 in 1999, they were already into a rebuild. Ask your grandpa about it, but boy did Sox fans scream when they traded established veterans for rookies in 1997. That "rebuild" led to the 2000 playoff run, and then the 2005 World Series. I'm flattered that you thought my post was so smart and spot on that God, Himself, must have directed me to post that. I assure you, that wasn't the case. I get considering your own attitude "show me". That's fair. It's silly when we feel we have to go to superlatives ("absolutely zero evidence", "incompetent") to stave off a wave of negative pushback that is not anchored in what we're actually watching happen. You're welcome for the knowledge.
-
Yes there is. The Sox rebuilt in the late 90's and they won a World Series. It's more wish-casting to be proclaiming that a guy who has taken a massive, positive first step in a rebuild is like a child in a glass shop.
-
Of course he does. It's a rebuild of the entire organization. The goal probably looks more like a healthy company somebody wants to buy as a "plug and play", rather than a championship by a certain date, tho I wouldn't rule that out, either.

Orioles add Kittredge to high leverage corps

If that transition ever happens, it's not going to be in 2025, unless they trade Robert for our future shortstop.

Beckham played 3B exclusively in his first season, then he was parked at 2B for the next 4 years. In that 4th season as 2B, he played 6 innings over two games at SS when Alexei Ramirez was subbed out.

Vaughn and Sox avoid arbitration: $5.85 million
WestEddy replied to Bob Sacamano's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What are you even talking about? They paid and locked up Eloy, Yoan and Luis Robert. You guys repeat this nonsense so much like facts don't even exist. -
Jesus, we act like every baseball player's a quivering mass of broken psyche jello, and one bad game will ruin him for life. He had a back injury this last year which affected his mobility. He also had a personal issue that he played through.
-
Montgomery is going to come up as a shortstop. He's not going to move to 3B after 4 games. He'll get the rest of his rookie season to play shortstop. Rojas has a one year deal.
