  1. FutureSox podcast breaking down the individual picks. Nice listen: https://www.futuresox.net/2024/07/18/futuresox-ru-draft-analysis-special/
  2. Mendick's deal wasn't guaranteed. Senzel has been better than Mendick, and they're paying Senzel the pro-rated minimum. It's not a waste of money.
  3. I was. My comment was more about there being a dearth of MI talent available at the TDL. Senzel's probably more a guy to catch grounders once the dust settles.
  4. I meant Moncada, not Maldonado.
  5. But then there's this: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/07/the-trade-market-remains-light-on-middle-infield-talent.html The fact we're talking about DeJong, Lopez and Moncada maybe garnering interest does back that up. edit: Moncada, not Maldonado.
  6. I guess this should have given us a hint
  7. Chuckie Robinson.
  8. .958 OPS, 2nd on team in HRs (16) https://latechsports.com/sports/baseball/stats/2024?path=baseball
  9. Lopez has been hitting well lately. And I wonder if there are some early trades, or they just DFA Shewmake when Moncada comes off the 60-day IL.
  10. Hmmmm, who could be the other infielder coming up? Ramos seems to have been hitting with more authority, lately. I don't think we really need to see Shewmake anymore.
  11. Baseball America's full UDFA tracker. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2024-mlb-undrafted-free-agent-signing-tracker-for-every-team/
  12. PTSD therapy for his time on the Sox.
  13. That would be ideal. I really don't think they need to see any more of Shewmake.
  14. Yes, on the 8th. As far as Ramos, I was surprised he started the year in Birmingham, and Monty in Charlotte. I thought it should have been the other way around. My thought was they were going to roster Ramos for a day or two, a la Colas, but when it seemed he was going to be up for a week or so, Grifol started penciling him in at 3B. I don't think that's a problem. Give the guy a taste, then send him to AAA so he has an idea how fast the big game is.
  15. Zach Remillard was DFAed 4/22, and outrighted May 1st. Remillard was not on the 40-man. Ramos was the only infielder on the 40-man. Mendick went on the IL and Ramos was called up May 4th. Zach Remillard was recalled May 8th. https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/chi-white-sox/transactions/ ptac is correct, you are not.
  16. Randomly? No. I gave you examples of "punted" picks who have progressed through the system, and weren't throwaway players. You presented "being in the majors" or "on a club's top 30" as a measure of whether they were any good. I selected one player, did a search of his draft round to compare him to his contemporaries. In that draft, 2/3 of the teams did some sort of punt on 1+ rounds to pull back money. Some teams started punting in the 5th round. I don't know why you treat something that many teams do depending on the draft year as something wild and out of the ordinary. I suppose it fits your "Chris Getz doesn't know a thing about baseball" narrative. It's also weird that you start asking derailing questions, then get angry and dismissive when they're thoroughly answered for you.
  17. Because some are complaining about picking 4th and 5th year seniors as a "punt", and doing so is really not much worse than just picking players with a bit more leverage.
  18. I think you have the opinion that until a player excels in the majors, or is recognized as a top ranked prospect, they suck. Elko has hit his way to AA, and Ellard and Luna are seen as future bullpen arms. It's not like they took Jerry Reinsdorf's grandkid in the 10th round.
  19. No, and no. However, in the round Elko was picked (2022, 10), none of those players have made the majors, and only two are within their team's MLB top 30 list: Cubs - Brody McCullough (21) Astros - Zach Cole (5) The Cubs have a top ranked system, the Astros a bottom ranked. 16 teams payed that spot $50k or lower, 14 paid higher. So, by your measure, the Sox have done no worse by "punting" the pick than saving money for a higher ranked pick. I'm not looking up the other two.
  20. Tim Elko was a "punted" pick in 2022. Fraser Ellard and Gil Luna were "punted" picks in 2021. James Fox keeps popping in and telling us it is a very light draft class. I think they made sure to get the guys they liked, and then they're loading up on the position they develop well.
  21. In retrospect, the 2016 draft looks pretty weak. I think the Dodgers' pick at 32 is the only stand out star of that first round.
