I 100% agree with this post. Essentially he becomes the right handed back in a right field platoon if he hits poorly and if the 2017 magic comes back he massively lengthens our line up. Worst case scenario is he costs a tiny amount of money. He’s not blocking Adolfo etc. For 2019. My one thought on our current line up is a left handed centre fielder would significantly help the lefty-rightly balance if we get Machado.

White Sox move up to 6th on pro sports misery index
Colinski replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This ranking is why it is sooooo much sweeter when we do win. -
1) Dayan Viciedo 2) Jeff Keppinger Hard to pick as always route for players in general. Engels swing annoys the shit out of me, but he gives his all.
-
1) Adam “sparky” Eaton 2) Chris Singleton 3) Buehrle 4) Paulie K 5) Frank Thomas

There is very little downside to this. Worst case he costs us 9 mil (8mil for 2019 plus 1 mil buy out) as if he’s under performing he doesn’t get the 500+ hits. Best case he shows his all star form and we use him to leverage Harper/Machado. All for the loss of Call (who Rowland loves so is prob underrated) and 9 mil. The upside value of this play is huge.

I can’t see anyone taking Castillo, as much as I love your idea.
-
I don’t disagree, what I am hoping for is signing colome and signing another reliever aren’t mutually exclusive. We get Colome and defo still have the money to get Ottivano or similar. dont get me wrong. I don’t love this signing, I just don’t hate it as much as some of the others.
-
If rather have Colome and McCann over just Naveaz. We’ve managed to turn one player who won’t be on our championship team into someone who could be. For next season it doesn’t matter that Navaez is better than McCann, all that matters is Castillo earns his money and McCann isn’t a train wreak until Seby or Collins arrive.

Rule-5 Draft thread (Thursday, Dec 13th)
Colinski replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Now we need a catcher, any thoughts of using a rule 5 pick? Ali Sanchez for example is a great defender derailed by injuries and a poor bat. Thinking we select him and use him to Collins/Zavala are fully ready. Would struggle to hit the Mendoza line but should easily hold own with glove. It’s prob not a lot worse than say Huntley as an idea. -
Update per Heyman: White Sox one of 3 teams meeting Machado

If he wants to play SS only then I’d rather spend the money elsewhere. -

If we are paying him 350mil he plays where we tell him ? -
Loving the ideas an optimism on all of this. My one question in all of this is who leads off in 19’ ? if we get Harper I have no idea, if we get Machado I’d want either Pollock (if cost is right re injuries) or McCutchen for his OBP. Obviously can’t have an outfield of Cutch, Harper and Eloy, watching that would be painful. Id not hate Yoan having another shot but id like him to bat lower and just concentrate on learning with a little less pressure.

This would be my dream scenario. I’m very high on Keuchel, simply as a control/spin guy he should age better than a flamethrower who loses MPH. Side note, I love the beard also.

Patrick Corbin signing for 6/$140 million to Nats
Colinski replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think this helps us get Harper, hear me out. according to Passan Nats were 15% to sign Harper, that surely now drops to near 0%. Some of that could come our way. in my view Yankees want Machado, as that’s more of a need given thier outfield. Surprisingly Passan has them at 40% in the Harper stakes. LETS SAY they sign Machado, knocking them down to 0% also. That’s now 55% of the Harper field out. Assuming Passan is right (big stretch) and that Yankees sign say Happ and Machado (smaller stretch), that leave really just us, the Phillies and the field (cubs, dodgers etc) in the Harper race. thats a race we can win. not saying in right. I’m just saying this could help us get the whale. edit: say Yankees get Harper, that’s then out of the Machado race and we become a front runner in that one. -
Any interest in Maybe James McCann or Matt Bush

That Dbacks trade is so bad it makes the Tatis trade look like a Sox win in comparison. shoemaker would be worth seeing pitch and seeing if is stuff is any good after his forearm surgery perhaps. -
I’m very happy with this.

I’ve actually seen more annoyed Mariners fans than Mets ones. They won what 89 games last year and are tearing it down. That’s hard for a fan base with a drought as long as there’s. This could go down as lose lose (rather than a win/win) trade if injuries hit Mets and the mariners prospects bust.
-
Given the amount of money going to the Mets I think this is a good deal for them. Actually gives them payroll space to add alongside Cano and Diaz. I still don’t think they win their division. they had to either rebuild or go all in, at least they aren’t “mired in mediocrity” again ?. And as the quoted poster said it’s not as if they can’t change course and trade Diaz and their pitching etc should this not work.
-
Passen’s article on this trade sums it up perfectly for me. Baseball is about winning games, this trade helps the Mets win now (lose more later perhaps). this is unlikely the only deal they will do and this deal shouldn’t be assessed in a vacume. As White Sox fans we moan our team don’t act like a big market team yet some of us are now talking about losing trade value whilst acting like a big team (big teams can take more risks because they can afford to fix the mistakes). is this a plus EV trade for the Mets, probably not. Do they win more games in 19’... almost definitely.

FS: White Sox in the Winter Leagues - Eloy and 8 friends

Braves sign Donaldson to 1 yr 23M deal pending physical
Colinski replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My only issue with this deal is that we didn’t do it. Even with his injuries Donaldson’s OBP was over .350. His floor is better than what we have at almost any position if our players hit there ceiling. -

Interesting that’ he’s not waiting to see what the Machado price is/waiting for the runners up on in the Machado stakes to come calling. Maybe he sees Machado as a SS and therefore he defines the 3b market. I’m guessing he doesn’t want to get stuck holding the baby like moose did. For Atlanta’s perspectIve this is perfect. Austin Riley needs a little more time in AAA. -
I think most Sox fans wish for us to tender him for one main reason, we don’t want to see him reach his potential elsewhere and for us to not get any value for that, either in trade or results in the rebuild. Not that this is likely but we’ve all seen people released and then go on to have great careers (Big papi)

Long time reader but first time poster. I believe we need to have a plan A, B and C and in sure we already do (I’m firmly in the in Hahn we trust group). plan A Sign Harper to a 10 year contract with multiple opt outs after the 5 year mark. (Opt out at four year mark if needed to get him). With the deal front loaded (something like 40mil,38,36,34,32,30,30,30,30,30) Sign Keuchel to a 5 year front loaded deal. Key here with this deal is I think he will not regress as much as other starters due to his control/groundout style. I also think with Anderson and Madrigal in the double play positions we can now play a ground ball pitcher. The reason for it been front loaded is that if all our pitching prospects progress he will be easier to trade. here is the bit that I expect people to hate but hear me out. Harper in year two plays first base. It will allow us to play better defence in the outfield with Adolfo’s arm or Rutherfords range. Harper used to be a catcher so has the hands for it. If we can’t extend Abreu it gives us a replacement and if we can’t it allows Abreu to move to DH as he regresses defensively. Plan B sign players that start our winning mentality but could be flipable lead by Donaldson on a 1 year with a more expensive second year option (basically like a bigger version of Moose’s deal last year. I’d still want Keuchel in this scenario. Plan C stand pat and see what Stephens/Adams and can do and wait for Arenardo and Sale ideally. Moncada. 2B Eloy. LF Harper. RF Abreu. 1B Palka DH Navaez. C Anderson. SS Sanchez. 3B Leury Garcia CF Pitchers Rodon Lopez Keuchel ???? Giolitto Year 2 Moncada. 2B Eloy. LF Harper. 1B Arenardo. 3B Abreu. DH Robert. CF Navaez. C Anderson. SS Adolfo. RF Pitchers Rodon Kopech Keuchel Cease Alec Hansen (I have faith in his stuff and hope he can fix his mechanical issues) Madrigal comes up halfway through pushing Moncada into a super utility player, Rutherford will hopefully be the leagues best 4th outfielder. Depth would be unreal. id also look to extend Eloy now, using the signing his brother good will to try and grab him for a further year or two. some of above is not going to happen, which is why the need for a plan A,B and C. i hope the Harper to 1B creates some debate. Thanks for reading (sorry it’s long)
