9-8. They have mostly succeeded against the weak-kneed teams. Have to go 2-1 hosting the Cub to wrap it up. Nobody has mentioned Southpaw on the IL for some reason.
There are too many variables to just say he is gone. He may step up in the playoffs and we have to keep him. Saying that resources are limited is kind of robotic. If no one signs for a couple of months the whole landscape could change. If teams are losing money the market will be impacted. Will the players panic and sign anywhere? I would highly expect the Sox will make an offer or wait to hear back from his agent. If they find a decent SP for value it could affect McCann.
The Sox could decide to make doo with Engel and Mazara next year. The owner could decide and direct to keep McCann or make a QO. That would leave some resources for an SP. It's not really about hot takes over McCann. He obviously has value. Meanwhile they can keep McCann in a significant playoff role. The guy is a player.
Only one game but a pennant race slopfest against a slop team is a bummer. They have not fared well against better teams. Let McCann catch and dole out the DH assignments to whoever.
Yes I believe it is a false dilemma but they will have to decide at some point what they can offer McCann. I don't see much bidding this fall, maybe until Feb or so. We heard the Mets lost $200M-plus so things will be slow until The Miracle arrives.
Teams need two good catchers. The Sox will decide what resources to allocate where. Mazara is not helping. Maybe McCann is another Nick Foles. He could start more in the playoffs. Makes you wonder about scouting. Grandal is still worthy.
I suppose he has been sick but they can't really gift him a starting role at this point. He is lucky to be a part time starter. If he plays he has to get on and contribute some run production.
