  1. Kevan Smith confirms what Farq has said. They stopped using signals, went verbal and Gattis struck out. Says Angels and Sox did not use tech but there may be another team that was doing the same. He is with the Rays now and has questions for Charlie Morton who was a stro.
  2. Legal gambling is on the rise and cheating will not be tolerated.
  3. The most famous example involves the Chicago White Sox in the 1960s. The following story is related by Jerome Holtzman and George Vass in Baseball, Chicago Style (Bonus Books, 2001): It began ... in 1965 when the Sox were in Detroit for a four-game series. Tommy John was pitching for the Sox and noticed the baseballs had been tampered with. "All the balls I got that day were like cue balls, hard and slick," John recalled. "And the seams were so low, almost nonexistent. When you're a sinkerballer you can't sink the ball without seams." John relayed the information to manager Al Lopez who told him to bring a ball into the dugout after every inning. According to John's recollections, Lopez said, "That's okay. We'll get them when we get back to Comiskey Park." Lopez summoned Gene Bossard, a second-generation groundskeeper who knew all the tricks. Bossard understood what had to be done and began storing boxes of balls in a small, windowless brick-walled room. He installed a humidifier. In two weeks the balls were soaking wet, moist from the humidity. ... In the four-game series at Detroit, the Tigers had hit 13 home runs ... In the ensuing four-game series at Comiskey Park from July 30 through August 2, the Tigers were swinging at the doctored balls. Suddenly, they were shorn of their power. Their longest hit in the entire series was a double.
  4. FYI Gene Bossard and Eddie Stanky were famous cheaters. No need to get righteous.
  5. Imagine the best penalty for a team full of cheaters if MLB had any balls. NO POSTSEASON.
  6. Red Sox announce new penalties lol.
  7. They have one with Tim which says- The Game Is Boring. Change The Game.
  8. The new team motto. They are using it in their promos.
  9. If anyone asks: Change The Game. Too much thinking required. Mine would be The Kids Can Pray. Most marketing leaves me clueless right where I started.
  10. EE is more apt to fall off than Abreu who has a potential correctable flaw. These guys have never played on a winner so maybe some will rise to the occasion.
  11. Whatever the detail he does not like the GRF lighting. When you switch TV from a Sox or Cub night game to another the lighting is usually better and brighter esp in the OF. You might recall Zack quit one spring with KC so he has some issues, wish him well. The strobes would give me migraines so I would def avoid that.
  12. Maybe the Rays figured that Matt is a future Todd Ritchie and cut bait.
  13. Sox and Cub have dingy lighting. Zack Greinke did not like it. No strobes for me.
  14. Covey is becoming coyote ugli by now. He will kite off in the spring winds I expect. New faces are welcome.
  15. That sounds really old school. You were the kid who walked uphill to and from school. In ten feet of snow.
  16. I'm down with pops on this one. Boras clients in most cases do not sign extensions because Boras drills it into their heads that they are obligated to drive the market ever-upward as an FA. Bryant is shaping up to be a classic overpay in my view. Some times the employer is punished to set an example unlike with Stras this season. The Cubs cannot afford to extend him so they need some MLB young talent in return. I otherwise do not take sides but you cannot afford to sign everybody with a shiny price tag.
  17. He would miss out on facing Twins pitching.
  18. The soft cap belies the open checkbook theory. You have to be smart with every penny. You end up paying guys not to play like the Red Sox.
  19. Ed Farmer status could be shaky from what we saw last year.
  20. Sox wrap up another outstanding move. What an incredible deal. Steve gives up two years of arbitration. Manny Bunuelos is next.
  21. Theo will be fine. The Sox might compete this year and liven up the city rivalry. I would trade Bryant but he is a fan favorite. Give us Q back and we will give you a B and C prospect.
  22. Plan Z would be to sign No Va for overflow work in the pen and bring up a couple of 4A guys like Fulmer.
  23. Sounds like that would make them fireable offenses. Luhnow has really been caught up in some ethical challenges so maybe the Patriots will call him. Win at any cost could end up costing too much.
  24. Most of us seem to think of the Mazara move as an educated informed gamble. I expect he has upside we will see.
