The investors are limited partners with no vote. It was set up that way for a reason. MLBTR analysis calling BS on Sox mgt claims about the bidding and their limitations.
I was expecting all along that Harper would get 10/330 so the market was a little soft. I wonder if the Sox had a serious thought about making that offer. Boras feels that half the teams are not playing fair so you know he will be agitating for new rules. Maybe lop off a year of service time and get players to the MLB market sooner. The problem of keeping guys in the minors when they are ready is a tough issue.
I am not quite as stern because we are not a destination franchise and our team did not budget to spend $300M on Machado. Right or wrong those are the facts. I can almost promise you that Ken and Rick did not try to get the owner to spend that amount. They did not want to be responsible.
Sort of like Coop blaming the fans who are here for the fans who are not here. Maybe not a preferred destination for the elite FA's. We should have had an owner who knows real estate to help develop the community.
God forbid we found a pitcher who is ready to step up and maybe even stay healthy?? I forgot the scout who put his neck on the line for Banuelos but maybe he saw something.
Suggest we take the seven years of service time, give him a gold watch and wish him well. As we have already seen, half of these guys break down and cannot play much anyway.
You spend some money and a few years later you have no moves you can make. That was the message I got. A small market team has less room for error. Not sure what the answer is.
Not all is on Jerry. Considering the size of the market we are the worst fan base in MLB. What is on Jerry is not making our home base more of an inviting community.
