  1. A lot of athletes could use a deferral which resembles an annuity. Oops I'm broke and retired. I don't see 300 for Machado. Maybe if they signed both guys they would want to come here.
  2. Word is the Giants have been long-focussed on Harper and will be serious bidders. I expect the Sox will put out a modest initial bid at maybe 5 x 30 before things get real.
  3. I think it is a given that any org would have 2-3 guys in recovery from TJ working their way back. It would also explain why Coop is not big on velocity as his top focus. Not all arms are going to respond well trying to add 3-5 mph to their fastball.

    Rebuild

There was little sign of progress at the MLB level in 2018. Maybe 2019 will bring some more. Agonizing over the disappointments gets really tedious.
  5. Would rather not hear a lot of PR about bidding on prominent FA's but certain that we will. I suppose Manny behaving like a street punk will not deter his market value.
  6. This post I find ironic because my first concern was the challenges during the recovery period between TJ surgeries. They knew enough not to push Zack beyond the normal discomfort level at this stage which is good. Also a shout-out to all the posters including Kopech in the 2020 rotation. You have to stock many arms and hope for the best.
  7. Word is The Tribe financial plan may involve moving veterans for the right offers. In other words losing some veteran talent in MLB's worst division ever would not keep them out of first place.
  8. Time for Shields to move on maybe KC could use him. Eovaldi would be nice but someone will overpay. Sox will find an under the radar candidate.
  9. After his first year of health quirks I would expect Jose to bounce back and play full-time in 2019. After that all bets are off. Jose and Avi we expect to be dangled as trade bait along the way.
  10. I believe insurance normally has a lot of contingencies beyond our assumptions. I doubt you just put in a claim when a guy goes on the DL. You might have some specifics being involved in the game.
  11. Would not pay Jones. Would take $2M to retire and take my chances. If they think Jones will stay healthy then I question their judgment. He might give you two decent months. Any thoughts on the future career of Chris Sale who seems to be at a crossroads.
  12. Would rather give Cordell some AB's and see how it goes. I suppose Engel will be back unless they pick up a solid vet.
  13. Would like to keep Rondon over Silly Sanchez who is meh and belongs in the North Korean league.
  14. YoMo has proven to be a record-breaker and you have to respect that. There may be an HoF exhibit and future marketing with the Nike swoosh.
  15. This is no surprise. With pitching taking up roster spots guys like Matt will become a necessity. No one wants to acknowledge MLB's roster problem. People agonizing over Moncada and Anderson hardly noticed that they rarely got a day off. In the 1960's teams had 8-9 pitchers and now it is 13.
  16. They can't let Wel go when they still owe him. Imagine an All-Star team of Sox FAs.
  17. So if four inning starters is the new thing does that make Matt Davidson our hoss out of the pen.
  18. What do they pay for tender-arm lefties these days. Unfortunate for Chris to be on the big stage with his shoulder not 100%.
  19. The Sox have had winning teams that did not draw well. For the size of their market maybe the worst.
  20. Barely mentioned but the Chicago Fire have the inside track on this one. The Sox might hire Eunice Castrata if she turns down her option year with the Chicago Sky.
  21. I still don't get what the Cub have done to affect the Sox. I don't blame my neighbor when I have a bad day.
  22. This rebuild will be long term, lasting many may losses and thousands of apologies.
  23. Almost like clockwork Jose started breaking down. What is the over- under on games started next year. I would take 82.

    Sonny Gray

Add Gio Gonzalez to the list.
  25. Not that $8M is outrageous in MLB parlance but with Avi he either isn't ready to suit up or you are left to wonder if he is ready to contribute. They might flip him for a broken down bullpen piece in late July. Someone will later sign him to a three-year deal in return for one decent year. Given our threadbare OF I suppose he remains as our RF filler. We might have the worst OF in MLB. We are at minimum short one good OF 3B and SP before pretending to compete.
