Illinois was the last state to begin reopening. I don't know how much more clear I could be. lol
-
January 2021 was the consensus a few weeks ago, yes. That has changed from everything I have seen in the news and experts in/out of the WH. Along with what I have heard from the doctors within my personal circle.
-
I am almost positive that everything I've read over the last couple of weeks talks about a vaccine being circulated by the fall. Even the experts working with the WH outlined a plan along those lines, I believe. It's been a long time since I saw someone say that it will be 12-18 months. Meaning, mid-to-late next year? No.
-
So... this is still being built as scheduled?
-
Why? Most agree that there should be a vaccine by the fall now. People are just looking for clicks, I swear. It's like the media in April that was saying the total lockdowns would last for 18 months. Here we are in late May and 49/50 states have begun some form of reopening. (Yup, the one that hasn't is Illinois)

The NFL will 100% have a season. This isn't even a question, IMO. I think you miss the point, entirely. It doesn't matter that the players will be all over each other. Nothing is going to stop a spread between baseball players either. You're throwing a ball to each other, tagging other guys, etc. In any team sport, people are going to spread whatever germs or viruses are on them. Not to mention, they won't even be quarantined. So, it's not like you can account for everyone, at all times anyway. All you can do is test and monitor the best you can. The NFL has been very clear that they're planning on the season, as scheduled. They might make adjustments with fans, but it will be played. I'll bet a testicle on it. It's not even in question.
-
A vaccine will probably come late 2020 or very early 2021. Also, herd immunity would overwhelm hospitals and be a nightmare. The point of social distancing isn't even to make this go away (most people don't realize this). It's to spread out the spikes so healthcare workers can handle the cases. We are ALL going to be exposed to this eventually. Best we can do is spread it out.
-
Just to play devil's advocate - this is where somebody might say "Well, those who are afraid of the virus or live with underlying conditions should stay home".
-
That's not what he said. Admittedly, he did word it in a confusing fashion.

The players logic just misses the mark. "We're risking our lives to go back". A) Not really. B) The country is slowly opening up and you have people working in restaurants, factories, etc. working for very little and in a much more hazardous situation. We are wide the hell open here in South Carolina now (with some restrictions on capacity, etc.). Same with quite a few of the southern states. They're trying to help people empathize with them but it just comes off as tone deaf. Your plight is nowhere near what the average American is facing. Yet, so many "typical Americans" would kill to have work, of any kind. Right or wrong... they look bad saying stuff like that and should just shut up for now. Just like the owners have. Also, a bit off topic but to do with your post. However, my sister is a doctor and says all essential employees BESIDES healthcare workers getting hazard pay is an okay enough idea. In her eyes, this is why she signed up to be a doctor. Same with nurses. This is why you're there.

And I'm sorry... I have no sympathy for the "risking our lives" bit. This coming from a guy who lost his uncle to this virus. You are in your 20's and early 30's, in top physical condition. You are at a MICROSCOPIC risk of losing your life and will be 10x more protected than the average citizen. People are going back to work in restaurants, factories, etc. I am going back to work in a gym training and rehabbing athletes soon. The world is slowly getting back to work, for much less money and in much more hazardous situations. It's simply not asking that much.
-
Agreed. The owners and the league need to make this happen, at all costs, IMO. The potential issues stem much further than simply this season's revenue/losses.
-
Agreed.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has reportedly told teams not to comment on the possibility of an outbreak or how it would be handled. I would imagine all sports are handling it this way until they have an answer for it.

Now, take out half for taxes and his agent. The money undoubtedly sets you up for life. But it's not to the point where 40 mil doesn't make a difference. He could want to open up businesses when he's done, he could want to set his kid's lives up with a trust fund, etc. We all try to optimize our earning potential within our given profession. Whether that's as a bartender or a successful big business owner. I'll never understand why athletes doing so makes them any less of a human being. There's also nothing that says he would have RATHER been here. He simply says he "liked it" here. People "like" job opportunities that they pass up in favor of another all of the time.

But... how did he sacrifice happiness? This would imply he disliked his Philly visit and thought he would be less happy there. He's still playing professional baseball either way. Not to mention, he went to a team far more ready to contend at the time. I would be willing to bet if you talked to him - he liked the Philly visit too. "I liked my White Sox visit" does not = "I liked it more than Philly"
-
Exactly. He was expendable to help fill other voids because Anderson looked like the future at the CF position.

That 05 team pushes for best regular season record of all-time if they're just "not bad" in August/early September as opposed to a HORROR show. Imagine that on top of the 11-1 playoff record? The 94 team was hugely talented but we don't "know" what happens in the alternate universe where that season gets played out. We do KNOW that the 05 White Sox won 99 games and DOMINATED the playoffs on cruise control to a WS title.

Nobody wants Joe Jackson in their outfield?

Pandemic Realignment: Sox in the Cactus League West
Richie replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Pretty confused by this take. Every one of those teams is a playoff contender and you could legitimately argue that all are better. Not to mention, Dodgers are the best team in baseball and were a lock to win 100+ games barring catastrophic injuries hitting. -
It may as well have been in another language. I don't think I have ever been more thoroughly confused at a post on a message board in my life. First off, you said "cheerleading". Not "passing judgement" (which this wasn't either). Regardless, way to move the goal posts. Am I cheering the guy or judging him? Lol. Those are two polar opposite actions. You realized your post made no sense and now you have to change the complaint entirely. Again, name ONE political point I made. Do it. Go ahead, do it. I literally stated a factual account of events that happened and announcements pertaining to this virus. The virus impacting the start of baseball. That is not talking politics. That is not "political banter" or "political opinion". When I watch a car drive by 100 MPH and go "that car was going fast"... it doesn't mean I'm diving deep into the nuance of automotive engineering. Yes, I brought up the governor. Do you know WHY I did that? BECUASE HE MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT RELEVANT TO THE PROGRESS OF THE VIRUS. Holy f'n crap. This must be an alternate reality. My post was observant, factual and an account of something that happened. NOT MY INTRPETATION OF THAT ACCOUNT OR AN OPINION. - We had good news today - That place that's the biggest hotspot in the world for the virus? Yeah, it's getting better. - Even the leader of that area came out today and said so. - Just a week ago he was scared and said things were horrible All of this is VERY simple and = GOOD NEWS Nothing more. Nothing less. Observe good news, report good news. "YAY!" Good freakin riddance.
-
? Who in the hell cheerleaded a politician? Are you serious? What's the difference between me saying "Hey, nice! Good news!". VERSUS... "Hey, this situation is bad! The whole season is probably over! Society is going to be shut in forever! Did you hear how bad it is?" How is this even "politics"? Are you being serious? This has to be a joke. Who brought up politics? We're talking about the virus/potential of baseball season. I'm cheerleading for the country and for baseball. EDIT: I keep editing this thing because I cannot wrap my mind around what I have just read. Where did I make any kind of a "political" point? I keep trying to think about it through your lens and look for something. I am utterly floored by your post. Floored.

There's been some decent news over the last 24 hours. With the CDC pulling in the reigns on some of their projections, NY/NJ/Louisiana hospitalizations going down and NY governor stating that he now believes they have all of the necessary supplies. After he put on quite the theatric display stating the polar opposite a little over a week ago.

When I was in college for broadcasting I got to sit in the booth with DJ/Ed for a broadcast in 2014. Ed was so cool to me. He took aside a lot of time to give me tips and let me ask him some questions. He said "Hey, I have five minutes. Here's your chance! I will answer ANY question." I was stunned and didn't know what to say. I didn't even expect an acknowledgement outside of maybe a "hey, how do ya do". The media guy who showed me in there told me to sit and be silent. I did not wind-up having to do that, in the least. lol I was sad to hear of his passing.

Next to zero chance.
