How good do YOU think we can be next season?
Richie replied to SonofaRoache's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think that the ceiling is most definitely in the 90's. -
Sox Officially Sign Edwin Encarnacion (1YR/$12M), Kodi Medeiros DFA

Ricky basically came out and said that "sabermetricians can kiss my ass". The guy clearly still manages the game like it's the mid 1980's. I doubt he stops bunting. This is sort of "bar room bull shit" talk... but... Sometimes you can figure why a manager (or coach in any sport, really) has certain tendencies by looking back into what kind of a player they were. Ricky was a 5'9 170 pound utility infielder who slashed .237/.285/.322 over 184 big league games and only really ever stuck at that level for one season. He had to learn every fundamental, hit the other way, play great defense.... BUNT... and be a good ole fashioned "scrappy ball player". Hell, it's probably why he got recommended as a coach/manager. That was his identity and everything he prided himself on. It was "how the game should be played". For him to accept that those things have proven to be over-valued (or even borderline useless like bunting) is basically to admit that everything he's held to be true and everything he valued in himself as a ball player to be a total and complete sham. Hell, seeing as he clearly values those things as a manager. It's basically to admit that the game has passed him up and no longer needs him. -

James McCann will be our 2nd catcher. Which is right where he belongs on any respectable MLB roster. -
This is only a sad move if it's all we're going to do. I don't mind buying low on a guy with the raw power of Mazara and seeing what we can do with him.

Would much rather have Ryu.

This Shit gets so old, man. We get it! Jesus. It's a crutch used to avoid having an original or useful thought.

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
Richie replied to Soxnfins's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That's about right. Yolmer would be a kids fan favorite because of his fun loving attitude. Not sure about many adults loving him. -
And yet... he still had a 4.2 WAR in half of a season. I mean, Jesus people. You're just deluding yourself. I'm done dwelling on the trade. But no... it's really not too early to call him a complete superstar. The fact that you're judging him as a 20 year old as if he's square in his prime says that. The kid flashed everything and then some last season. When you bring a 20 year old up not named Juan Soto. They tend to be rough around the edges and still a bit raw. But good god almighty... what a talent.
-
Dude... what in the hell? This dude was a 20 year old and one of the best two way players in baseball when healthy. lol He K'd a lot... who cares? That's what 20 year olds tend to do. He also was a straight up phenom.

If he's a better hitter than those guys. Then why doesn't he hit better?
-
Yeah, I have moved up to Michigan since. So, it's been a while. I have always liked Lawrence Holmes. Mully/Hanley were good. I hate Dan Bernstein. So, I sort of appreciated their more straight-forward and non-sensationalist approach. Hanley treated me like more than a coffee fetcher. Gave me real work to do for the show. Which was nice of him. lol
-
I was at work and began to yell "holy sh*t!"... before changing it to "holy sh-COW!" Lol
-
I was an intern at The Score 5 years ago. Yeah, Bernstein was in love with himself. Mully and Hanley were cool. Especially Hanley.

Eloy has been a pleasure to watch recently. I'm becoming cautiously optimistic about Collins as well. Cautiously... -
Who gives a shit? lol. I don't remember what was talked about during broadcasts much in 2017 either. What if... GOD FORBID... the OP is trying to learn? Startling thought! Isn't it? Get over yourself... Eww. Talk about douche chills. This has been a disgusting display. Imagine for a moment if somebody asked this question to you in person and you responded in this manner. It would totally expose the absurdity of what you are doing. The only way it would be semi-excusable, is if you were autistic. Maybe you are... nothing wrong with that, by the way.
-
"No offense, but I'm about to say some REAL arrogant, snot-nosed bull shit to you... right now. Despite the fact that you are humbly asking a question, my response is about to demean the shit out of you as a baseball fan. My superiority will be demonstrated. Remember... no offense, though! "

More "Hahnspeak" on Robert/Madrigal/Collins coming up
Richie replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Collins wouldn't have hit during his call-up if you threw a beach ball at him underhanded. He was helpless. You cannot help the "helpless". There's only so much 4 PA's per day can do for a player. There is a line with this stuff. It's not going to magically turn a guy who slashed .077/.226/.192 over 31 of them (with 14 K's) into a good hitter. Acting like the White Sox cheated Collins somehow for not handing an .077 hitter a full-time DH role (and a share of the catching role) who K's nearly 50% of the time, is just silliness. That player either ain't going to make it or he needs to go back down for a total overhaul of his swing. It looks like Collins is having some success with the latter, which is good. However, this wasn't the case of a player who needed PA's. All you had to do was LOOK at the guy trying to hit. He looked more overmatched than a lot of pitchers trying to hit in the National League. The guy had NO chance. Most importantly, him being up here was doing HIM zero good. I think that's the key. He needed a swing overhaul. You don't do that mid-season at the big league level after 31 horrendous career PA's. Hopefully he comes back up and his new approach works out. I'd love to see it. God knows Reed or Skole ain't the answer either. -
I don't see why Lucas Giolito (who we traded Eaton for) should help me get over trading Fernando Tatis Jr. for James Shields. Totally unrelated. It doesn't help me feel better about Tatis that Moncada or Anderson are having big years. We should still have him if we didn't make a total clown show trade... (obviously hindsight is 20-20 but most didn't want to do it)
-
Anderson should make the 502 PA's required to challenge Lamahieu for the batting title. He's at .332 and Lamahieu is at .338. I know... I know... But let me dream lol

Yeah, I was talking to a real cynical White Sox fan. Who was talking about how the team just "hasn't shown any signs of improvement". He justified this by citing how our win-loss record will only be marginally better and that our expected win-loss is currently even worse than that. "We've barely improved and we're playing over our heads". Is essentially how he put it. I was just baffled by how thick headed you must be to look at it like that. I mean, last year, how many big league players did we have in our lineup every day? Honestly, Omar f'ing Narvaez wound up our best player with Abreu having his worst season to date. lol. This year Moncada has been magnificent, McCann has been one of the best catchers in baseball, Eloy will lead the AL in HR's for a rookie (despite probably playing only 110 games or so), Leury will post a WAR around 3. Giolito has become a bonafide stud. Bummer and Colome are elite relievers. Meanwhile, a huge chunk of our talent has either just arrived (Cease) or is dominating in the minors and will arrive soon. It's just wild to me that you can't look at this team right now and feel more positive than last year. I mean, what even could you possibly point to from a developmental standpoint and say it didn't go well?
-
Engel is a far superior defender. While Cordell is only marginally better at hitting.

The Bill Walton Game: Sox vs what's your name again

No doubt, he plays it up... But I've listened to him do this for years on college basketball games. -
The Bill Walton Game: Sox vs what's your name again
Richie replied to Heads22's topic in 2019 Season in Review
Uh... have you seen him call college basketball games? It's the exact same thing. This is not a one time deal. This is who he is every time he's ever had a mic or camera put on him. I'm sure he was told "be yourself" and Benneti was told to "let him go"... but that's really all it takes. He's genuine with all of this "I'm a free spirit hippy" stuff.
