  1. Indeed. A long-term swing adjustment for the better doesn't always render good short-term results. I would say it's time to begin working on that adjusted swing again.
  2. Houston was wrong when they gave up on JD Martinez. They're certainly a well established organization, but they are not without their bumps/bruises along the way.
  3. No, being a part time player is not an excuse for looking like a beer league softball all-star who won a contest and got a chance to play in the big leagues.
  4. I know that there's exceptions for rebuilds and I get the argument for giving Collins AB's. However, to an extent, you have to earn those AB's with the big league club. Or else they're going to be given to someone else in the form of an opportunity. Which is what's happening with Reed. Collins hasn't just looked bad outside of his one HR, he's looked totally overmatched and out of his league.
  5. Agreed on all fronts. I actually look forward to seeing what he can do. Much more exciting than calling up Skole or something.
  6. His last two years are nearly identical. A lot of HR's, good OBP and a lot of RBI's. 34 HR's 108 RBI's .261/.358/.525 (.883) 28 HR's 108 RBI's .255/.344/.506 (.851) The year prior his slash line was better, but he only played 70 games at that level and had 296 PA's
  7. Hopefully, right now, it doesn't look like anything. As it hasn't been thought about much by the FO.
  8. Vlad Jr's only palpable success this season came has come via the home run derby. Just pointing that out.
  9. Are you under the impression that they get this money in a lump sum at the end of their career or something? (rhetorical, I know you don't believe that) Beckham received that money in pieces from several organizations over the course of 11 seasons. Now, take away almost half of that and give it Uncle Sam... (That good ole upper tax bracket) Cost of living, a house, wife, kids... What do you think a 35 year old has stashed away after that? A couple mil if he's lucky? Guy has half of a century left on this planet. Mortgages, kids he'll put through college, etc. The cost of raising a single child through age 17 is 250,000 grand these days. THEN, you're chucking up six figures more for college? This isn't even taking into account whether or not you want a nice home in a nice neighborhood, etc. Which I am sure a guy like Beckham does, as he can afford it. There's not a chance in hell he'd make it to his golden years with a penny left.
  10. The fact that there exists a group of White Sox fans who truly feel that Palka "proved" anything at the MLB level last season, REALLY proves what a disarray this team has been in at the big league level. The standards REALLY have dropped low.
  11. That video almost brings back the little kid in me who thought baseball was the whole world.
  12. Is Abreu in poor physical shape? He looks pretty damn strong and lean to me. At least, as lean as you'd want him. I don't see that as an issue.
  13. Abreu better pray it's a sample size issue... or else his days in major league baseball may be numbered. At the very least, his days of being relevant.
  14. Ah, well... Despite this fact, I still do not wish to modify my statement. Tyler White is a slob in my book... and I'll die on that hill.
  15. Well played, sir. Well played
  16. The only thing that makes me go on tangents is when people use "irregardless" ?
  17. He's made 15 mil over his career. More than the average person sees in their lifetime, but set for life is going far. Life is expensive, especially with a family. He'll still have to figure something out. I agree, though - I root for Beckham. I've always liked him. When I saw he made the Tigers big league roster out of spring training, I was like "nice, he's still got a gig". To be honest, before Seattle called him up for a very brief time last season? I thought he was clean out of baseball.
  18. Yeah, honestly... since a horrific start. Nova hasn't been horrible and basically has been what you typically would look for from a 5th starter. The unfortunate aspect of the situation is that he's among a really bad staff. If we had 2 studs and 2 other reliable pitchers. He would be fine to roll out every 5th day. Since the Toronto disaster outing on May 17th, his ERA has dropped nearly 2 full runs and he's been fine. He's given us a chance.
  19. I can't recall a nickname that ever really panned out when it was forced or consciously sought out (and then pushed for) by fans or media. True nicknames are something that just happen. If you're already fighting to find one, it's probably not coming. The name helps... which is why a version of "magician" "magical" or "magic man" could stick for Madrigal. "Nick Magical" or Nick "The Magic Man' Madrigal.
  20. Yeah... barring injury, I don't see a spot for him.
  21. I respect your post, but I'm assuming you want prospects for Colome. They 'could' make our team better in 2022 or so. If they pan out. I realize there's compensation to be had for colome but at the same time I don't want Nate Jones to be our closer next season and I don't want Frye or Bummer as I don't believe in lefty closers. I understand you want very good players for Colome, assuming you mean youngsters, prospects. This is from my above post... We could get a legit prospect in exchange for him who could contribute as a rotational starter or possibly as an every day positional player for years to come. No one here is talking about a guy who still needs 2-3 years to develop. We are talking about a guy who is close now. The term "prospect" does mean a player is 2-3 years away. I'm talking about guys who are already established well in AA or have moved to AAA. Guys who will be ready step in soon. Erik Fedde was brought up as a really good example. A guy who has already tasted the majors. However, the idea (to me) would be a starting pitcher or outfield prospect. Catcher is up in the air right now with how well McCann has been playing, along with Collins uncertainty. He looks overmatched at the plate, but it's still too early to write him off completely.
  22. No, you weren't. This needless underhanded jab proves it. He was just cracking a joke. You're such a miserable ass...
  23. When you can't play a position and your only hope is at DH. That is horrific.
  24. See, this is what I am talking about. I don't "want to flip Colome". I "want" to flip Colome IF the deal makes our team better. I would be willing to trade ANYONE if I felt the White Sox benefited. If we don't get that in an offer for Colome? Of course, I don't want to ship him off. All I want... is to make the White Sox a winner. You and a couple of others have this weird angle on trading players. Where you think those entertaining the idea of doing so just "want to trade for the sake of it" or something. You completely ignore the whole compensation aspect of it. It's just odd... it's like you can't see beyond tomorrow's game. "Ah! Why would you trade our closer!?"... "Uhm, well we got players in return for our closer. Look, we got --"... "What!? Wait... no... but why is our closer gone!" What if Colome was 26? He's not.
