  1. Do you really think that receiving participation trophies was an integral part of your son growing into a competent and respectable adult?
  2. Eloy and Cease for Quintana? Who has largely been a league average pitcher and has contributed to zero world series runs? I doubt it. There is zero doubt that Eloy/Cease still have uncertain futures. However, they gave up a Chris Sale type of haul for a guy who hasn't done much to write home about.
  3. Oh, without a doubt and I referenced his 10 day run prior to the previous two days in a prior thread. I was more just speaking to the sudden spike in Eloy hype after the two big games.
  4. Yes, just as every group of old people throughout the history of the planet are (generally speaking) entirely convinced time and time again that "young people are p*ssies" "young people are lazy" and that the world is coming to an end. "Oh, can you believe these kids!". "Millennials! WAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!" Generation after generation... old people REALLY are under the impression that the young people they currently occupy the world with are "so terrible". Oh, but this time... with millennials... they MUST be right. This time is CERTAINLY special! Okay... if they say so. lol Do you know why old people always think that the world or their section of society is coming to an end? Or at least on the brink of some sort of modern dark age? It's because THEIR world IS ABSOLUTELY coming to an end around them. The foundations of society from which they know and understand how to operate within are crumbling all around them. However, the reality of that is far too heavy for most to accept. So, they blame the younger generation who is breaking new ground and reject their new ways of operating. Why? Because it renders them obsolete. The next step after that? Is death. And oh boy... does that ever scare the shit out of human beings. Your kids will be back to climbing the corporate ladderand proving you wrong First off, that is already happening. The millennial generation is undoubtedly subscribing to the principles with which you mentioned. However, post-millennials... kids in college now? There's a very real movement of conservatism happening. Really, kids throughout their 20's are starting to trend this way. For what it's worth, I am a 27 year old conservative who would have no problem climbing the corporate ladder and thinks most of this social revolution is utter nonsense. I also tend to identify much more with middle aged people than I do with those aged 18-35.
  5. Of course... That's why it's called a "generalization" The word itself implies that it does not apply to EVERY single individual. Just that "generally speaking" this statement holds true to a particular group/section of people, on the whole. He never said "ALL older people" feel a certain way.
  6. Look... No one is denying Eloy's raw power and ability. It is special and COULD help him develop into a special player. However, right now he's a corner outfielder with a -0.5 WAR hitting .239 with a sub .300 OBP and .741 OPS. He's had two big days in a row, for crying out loud. Would ya relax? Overall, he's been a slightly below average corner outfielder (who is a circus act defensively) and that's an undisputable fact. You really need to bring this hot take of yours down many notches pertaining to the current potential of the 2019 White Sox. If you think this team is ready for a run with this rotation - I would love to get some of what you are smoking. Not to mention the fact that they are also in the bottom half of the league in nearly every major offensive category. Let's also say that Eloy RIGHT NOW is one of the best hitters in baseball. There's all kinds of fantastic hitters who have spent a LONG time on horrible teams. This isn't like football or basketball where having a LeBron type of superstar or elite QB guarantees you contention. No one here is happy with losing. However, compromising a part of the TRUE window of contention which lays ahead of us beginning just next year? Only to do what? Attempt to win a little over 80 games instead of 75ish? It makes no Earthly sense.
  7. I can't be the only one who is relieved that we no longer have to hear Benetti reiterating how "Eloy has yet to hit a home run at home! All on the road! Isn't that crazy!?" during 75% of his AB's. I'm not a Benetti hater, but man... I was waiting for Eloy to do it just so he would shutup about it already. lol
  8. He's devastating on pitches that he can get those big/long arms out and extended on. Hopefully the next step is being able to pull his hands in a little better on the inside pitch. Get that bat head through the zone a bit more efficiently. With his size/wingspan - it's no easy task. However, he's up to it.
  9. No doubt. I mean, I don't think anyone here is under the impression that he's going to hold down a sub-1.00 ERA for the rest of his career. So, I should clarify that. lol. There will be SOME regression.
  10. If Giolito was getting lucky, I would be inclined to fear a regression. However, there is simply nothing to suggest it. His peripherals are just as outstanding as his main numbers.
  11. I wouldn't say he's losing his ability to hit. His HR's and doubles are rather normal. He'll probably finish with a nice season slugging % wise. He can't take walks well and that's starting to rear its head a bit. However, its like this forum really roots against Abreu sometimes. lol. Some are so quick and almost seemingly excited to proclaim his career over with. All he would need is a little run right now (not even a gargantuan one) to push his numbers up towards the impressive realm.
  12. God I can't wait until Eloy is a full-time DH... lol Every ball is an adventure Glad he caught it somehow, though
  13. ‎People (notably Yoan) are talking about this rather casually. I think with the off day tomorrow, this is the perfect opportunity to get him back-to-back days rest as a precaution and have him back Thursday for the Yankees. That's what I believe happens. Plus, he would have been hitting from the right hand side tonight. So... not quite as bad of a loss. June‎ ‎11‎ ‎4‎:‎46‎ ‎PM ET Moncada (back) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals. ANALYSIS: Moncada didn't appear to be particularly worried about the upper-back tightness that forced him to leave Monday's contest, but he'll sit for at least one game. The White Sox have an off day Wednesday, so he'll wind up getting at least two days to rest. Jose Rondon starts at third base.
  14. Hoping that when McCann and Sanchez go head-to-head that people really stop to look at how well McCann is playing. While also taking into account his CLEARLY superior defensive prowess. That's the one that bugs me most. I think that spot is rightfully James McCann's. Marwin Gonzalez being ahead of Yoan Moncada is a complete joke. The Twins are doing great with the voting, in general. Their must be a lot of hype in Minnesota over them right now. Can't say I blame em. Fun team to watch
  15. Agree to disagree for now... Not really a debate that should be had in a game thread.
  16. QS from Despaigne You would be a fool to ask more than that from him. Now, if we could PLEASE stop making fools of ourselves at the plate. Thanks
  17. I feel like every time I settle in to watch the White Sox half of the inning - I look down at my phone once, back up at the TV and the Nationals are hitting again.
  18. Overall, I don't agree with this; in the least. However, in Alonso's case - it is getting completely absurd. As it has been made ABUNDANTLY clear that he cannot elevate the ball even semi-consistently over the heads of opposing infielders.
  19. Yeah, honestly - Despaigne has been fine. Especially on such short notice. This game is entirely on the offense to this point.
  20. This game looks over from where I sit. I don't see how we manage 4-5 runs tonight.
  21. The Nats with Anibal Sanchez on the mound is a good team?
  22. Yeah, his account of the 24 hours leading up to the game and then the game itself seemed pretty far out there. That doesn't make it false - it could be 100% accurate. However, I get the feeling it's one of those stories that grew and grew every time it was told for years. Started with a baseline of truth, but by the time Ellis told it in that interview it had a life of its own. I remember wild nights where my friends and I were already exaggerating the extent of it no more than 24 hours later. That shit happens... I really hope that it's 100% factual, though. I think we all do. lol
  23. See, that's the thing that the average fan doesn't take into consideration in All-Star voting. They just vote in Sanchez because he's a Yankee and his power numbers. Ignoring the absurdly big difference between McCann and Sanchez defensively. McCann runs circles around him.
  24. Yeah, I caught for a kid in college summer ball who would line the inside/front of his hat with just a little bit of hash. When he would sweat, it would soak into his pores. The guy would just be zoned. He was really good.
