Cardinals @ Sox 7/10/18, Mikolas/Covey

Pham got scratched. I had him and Ozuna in my FanDuel lineup. Now just Ozuna. -

Dylan "Bombs Away!" Covey is his old self again. At least, I think - Hope I'm wrong, though -
Hypothetical: Would you trade Moncada for Arenado?
Richie replied to Buehrlesque's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If I was a hitter like Arenado - I could put up with a lot in order to keep Coors Field as my home ball park to hit in. lol Arenado is one of those guys whose a beast in any ball park, but still... It's very nice for those numbers. A lot of batting titles won by Colorado players who haven't exactly been overwhelming. It ain't a coincidence. -
Marwin Gonzalez has been hopeless at the plate recently and looked extremely lost vs Giolito. I agree it's ballsy, but I get it... kinda.
-
That was an absolute perfect breaking ball by Soria on 3-2 there to Altuve. Ain't nobody hitting that. Straight at the front shoulder to freeze the legs and quick action down to the plate. Jose Altuve, Mike Trout or Mickey Mantle... it's over Johnny!
-
That's just competing and wanting to win. Knowing he missed an opportunity. I'm sure if you asked him - he'd be fully aware that this was a big positive.
-
Yeah, I mean he broke Kemp's bat. He did great.
-
Hmm... I'm watching the Stros broadcast. Okay, I believe. Must have missed it. I think I saw a side view that appeared that way.
-
Yeah, it sucks. We still need to handle him with kiddie gloves and yet we keep trying to push the envelope.
-
Stay tuned and see how a great Giolito performance can turn into a poor stat line with 4 ER's. It's coming up, after these messages!
-
I thought I saw his glove go over to the left side of his mask, away from Marwin -- but I could be wrong. The pitch was also right down the middle. So, I think that's very open to interpretation.

I agree, but I've seen conversations about Abreu's age and fears about how he's declining in just about all of the past few seasons. It typically just results in him coming back around with a huge month. I mean, this is the same Abreu who was on fire in May.
-
Smith appeared to begin to stand-up and attempt that. Immediately had to come back down when he saw the pitch leave Giolito's hand. Definitely need to be more prepared for that, though.
-
7.1 Longest outing of Giolito's career.
-
Give me Yoan here from the left-side vs McHugh with a couple of men on.
-
NOBODY in baseball needs the AS break more than Abreu. I don't know what the hell happened, but that swing of his is a CATASTROPHE right now. Totally lost. Off-balance, out in front, flailing with all arms and when even when he's not in front he's swinging and falling over the plate. It's just a mess. I hope some of it is just a matter of resting that foot, but this started before that.
-
No doubt. Which is why I said it needs continued developing. I'm not denying it's shit now.
-
Having not seen a lefty from the left side since (I'm assuming) he was a young kid or his early teen years. I highly doubt that he'll just flip on over to the left side vs LHP in the MAJORS and have it click. Lefties generally have to work a very long time to get good at that. He's hitting over .160 as a righty now. A lot of young players have done this and become decent from their weaker side. Let it keep developing. He only needs to be decent from that side and improve the gap-to-gap pop a bit. It doesn't have to be on equal footing.
-
Yeah, probably. I said after that post to give him one more with a tight leash. I just don't want this to turn into that Oakland start (I think OAK?) where we sent him back out for the 8th and wound up getting blown up. Wound up having the book closed on him with 4 ER's.
-
Maybe one more, but I'd have somebody getting loose when a runner reaches and give him the hook if a second runner does so.
-
Hiyo... right handed hit for Moncada and 0 K's from that side so far. That's like a 4 for 4 with two bombs by "Moncada from the right side" standards.
-
Pull Giolito now, IMO Great, great outing. 6 innings 1 hit, 2 BB's and 1 ER. His confidence has been shot all season. Get him out of there on a high-note. His progression is more important than this game. Let the bullpen get torched in the 7th for all I care.

Irrational fondness of a player who completely sucks
Richie replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
"Suck" is definitely not how I would describe either of those players. Both made all-star games here. Podsednik once led the league with 70 steals (309 SB's total) and finished 2nd in ROY voting. Career .281 hitter with a .340 career OBP. Crede especially - in his first 4 1/3 years in the league were damn good prior to hurting his back for that first time. He was elite defensively. 4.8 WAR and 30 HR's/94 RBI's in 2006 (.283/.323/.506) OPS of .829 (one of two seasons with an .820+ OPS) In those 4 1/3 or 4.5 seasons (whatever you want to call it - he came up for good to play 53 games in 02) he hit 104 HR's. Keep in mind, these were different times in the immediate aftermath of the steroid era... and consistently averaging in the mid-20's for HR's was quite solid. His OPS lines were .826 .741 .717 .756 and .829. This is also a guy who was possibly our overall post-season MVP in 05. .949 OPS with 4 HR's and 11 RBI's. 1.000 OPS in the ALCS and a 1.100 OPS in the World Series. Podsednik was also damn good. Both were hugely clutch, of course. Crede, just overall - big time clutch player. I don't understand saying they "sucked". Clearly both above average major league players. Crede was eyeing a 300-350 HR career before his injuries. Maybe you mean to say "they were both favorites - despite better players being on the roster"? -
What beard are you looking at? lol. Gattis is a tobacco chewing Texan. That's a f*cking grizzly man - "I live in the woods" and kill my own food for dinner beard. You can't tell by that farm body he also has? Dude looks like he just got done herding cattle. I am kind of taken back that anyone would take Gattis for a "hipster". Dude's from Fort Worth.
